Is the AO campaign always just for Dublin? Will there be a national one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 rose1010101

When/if people from Batch 7 have been called for clearance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭readoutloud

Most AO posts are based on Dublin. Probably something like 97% of them.

In theory, AOs are more policy orientated (and thus Dublin-based) than, say, HEOs who could have a more managerial role in a regional office.

I am in batch 7 and have received my department.

When did you hear from them and where did you finish in Batch 7? I was OOM 6 on Batch 7 but haven’t heard anything. Vetting has been received by PAS but yet to hear any more.

Thanks, good luck with your placement!

I just received batch 8 results and was successful, a little anxious about the new campaign starting so soon. Fingers crossed they will reach me.

I was in the mid 10s. Vetting for me took 10 days. Hopefully you hear soon!

I emailed PAS when the new competition went up and was told that if you’ve been invited for clearance then there will be a role available for you. I would assume they will stop interviewing once they’re ready to move onto the next competition.

I was OOM in the 10s in Batch 7 and received my placement last week, I’m already in the civil service so possibly why it was quite quick

Can I ask roughly when you received interview results? Thanks

Hi I am in the specialist stream 'Energy Climate and Communications' batch 5 OOM12 for the AO position. I emailed clearance last week and was told there was 10 ahead of me at that stage. Anyone else in a specialist stream and if so how long did it take to get a call? Thanks.

Has anyone started theirs position yet? If so, can you possibly give some insight into what the day to do looks like so far? Are you enjoying the role? :)

Anyone from Batch 7 know how far down the list they have gone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 rose1010101

No worries, I got them on the 7th of September

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 phytopenguin

Hmm I applied for that stream too and was in the same batch, so I'm wondering now if it's to do with the specialist steam perhaps...? I had my interview in June and am still waiting to be called. When did you have your clearance ?

I had my interview in July but I haven't been called for Clearance yet.

Hey, I've just received an appointment in the Dept of Health. I was batch 5 OOM16. The requirements for the role specify a degree in health care/social care which I don't have. My Post Grad was in Education although I've worked the last 10 years in Social Care. Anyway I'm a bit apprehensive about taking the position. What happens to my position on the panel if I decline the position? Do I get bumped down the list or off the list altogether? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why are you apprehensive? Sounds like you're really suited to the role. Dept of Health is a great place to work.

I agree with the above comment. You sound like an ideal candidate for the job with your mix of post grad education and work experience.

If you're afraid to ask your own contact in case it comes off not so well, I personally would call up PAS as you will get through to a different officer, it's just a general query you have and doesn't reflect on whether you want the role or not. I've called twice and they've picked up both times and I had my questions answered immediately so I'd recommend calling if you've any worries.

It does really sound like you're a great fit for a role in the Dept. of Health so if they've accepted your degree in the clearance stage it sounds like you're good to go.

I think it was just an initial panic at the prospect for such a massive change in my life. I have since calmed down a bit and spoken to a few people and am now very excited about taking up the position.

Yes initial panic has subsided and has been replaced with genuine excitement for a new challenge.

Is there a rule about how long you have to be an EO before you start on the second point on the AO salary scale?

I thought someone said on one of the threads that if you were already an EO, you would start on the 2nd point on the AO salary scale.

Ah I found the answer to the above: -

On promotion, an officer will be appointed at the minimum point of the new scale unless any of the conditions set out at 1.2 apply.

1.2 (i) Where the officer's current salary is above the minimum point of the new scale

but below the normal maximum, the nearest point above the officer's current salary

    point plus one increment.

(ii) Where the officer's current salary is above the normal maximum point of the

new scale but below LSI1, the nearest point above the officer's current salary point

    (i.e. LS I1).

(iii) Where the officer's current salary is above LSI1 and be low LSI2 of the new

sca le, the nearest point above the officer's current salary point (i.e. LSI2).

(iv) Where the minimum of the new salary scale is greater than existing pay by an

amount less than the first increment on the new scale, the officer may enter the new

scale at the minimum plus one increment.
