Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Fault: I've used this lens in heavy rain but with a cover but now i think some water may have affected it. It seems like my image are now really foggy... hard to explain but the image quality has been affected. Should i try dry it out or can it be looked at by someone in Dublin city centre?

Maybe the shutter getting stuck or not opening properly.

I have been told in another forum that it could well be as simple as the fact that the petal lens hood on these lenses has not "locked" into place properly and the larger parts of the petal are coming into view. I've tried a few test shots and that seems to be the case. thanks for the reply all the same, and I'm delighted that it is something so simple.

    Hi
Just wondering how much cost lens cleaning. Its canon 28-235 IS USM, bit of fungus on two front elements.
Another thing is how much is front element replacing in canon 70-200 L USM?
    Thx in advance

Anyone have any experience with this? I've had a quick look at the micro switches but to be honest I barely know what I'm looking at.

Can anyone recommend a repair shop? It looks a little dusty inside anyway so it could do with a service really.

make sure it is not the battery. I had a 400d and the batterys just died suddenly

    Make: Nikon

Fault: Back Focus with multiple lenses

I've spotted a bit of a problem with my D7000. I use it all the time with a Nikon 35mm 1.8 lens and last week bought a Tamron 17-50 f2.8.

I was testing the Tamron and couldnt get the images extremely sharp at f2.8. The focus was generally behind. So I went to the fine tuner on the camera and tinkered around with it but there wasn't a huge improvement until I extended the fine tune to the maximum -20. At -20 the images are perfectly sharp.

For the craic I went back to the 35mm and had a really good look at my recent shots and realised they were starting to creep out of focus too. I set that to -20 and the photos are now crystal clear again.

Is this an easy fix or something that generally can happen over time?
If so, how long/how much would it take to sort? I think the camera could do with a service either way. I bought it 2 years ago second hand from a shop in Dublin and it hasn't been serviced since.

    Thanks a lot!

I have a Canon 1100D that won't read the memory card anymore. The memory card works fine in my laptop. I tried reformatting it but still no joy.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to bring it in Dublin City for repair? Thank you.

Hi, I've a problem with my canon EF 17-85 lens. It's err 99. Seems to common enough from a bit of googling.

Camera works fine with other lenses, any advice on who would be able to take a look at this in the Dublin area?

I have a problem with my Epson 3880 printer. It won't print black. A nozzle check doesn't show anything for black. Same results for Photo and Matte Black. Did cleaning cycles, power cleaning cycles and used "magic bullet". Still no black.

I have a feeling that it is the valve that switches between photo and matte black that is gone. I have searched the Epson web site for out of warranty repair (to no avail).

Anybody had this problem before or know where to get it repaired?

    Thanks, Adrian

Are you sure it's not the printhead failure?

Its possible but I don't think it likely. It failed in the middle of printing an image. No sign of any deterioration in print quality beforehand.

I definitely need a professional repair but I can't find any details of where to go - the Epson site is worse than useless!

    Model: Sigma DC 18-250mm 1:3.5-6.3
Fault: Over exposure when zoom and will not autofocus

When/how it happened: For a while now the lens would over expose on shots if I used the zoom. I continued to use and manually compensated the exposure. Now the lens will not focus and there is the image through the view finder darkens to indicate a problem. I've read that the arpature sticks on this model. I've looked down the barrel of the lens and can see a small hexagonal shape that would indicate an arpature issue. Does anyone know if this is fixable or is the lens dead. Can anyone recommend a repair shop. Im in west Limerick.

    Make: Canon

    Item: Lens

    Model: EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Fault: the lens is sticking & making a clicking noise when I try to zoom, it sounds like there is something small rattling around in there. I can usually only zoom to about 105mm - it won't go any further without it feeling like I'm forcing it. It is also struggling to auto focus (it won't auto focus at all at the moment but it does work sonetimes)

When/how it happened: I'm not sure how it happened as it hasn't been dropped or anything. It's a few years old so not covered under warranty.

    Any advice appreciated, thanks!

Sounds like image stabilizer is failing, but I believe you have problem with aperture. Try to set F22 and make some shots in different zoom position. You should find out that sometimes aperture blades are not moving.

Fault: Aperture motor fail. All photos come out under-exposed, although I have some success shooting at extremely high ISO in live-view mode. When manually adjusting the aperture and looking into the lens while taking a photo aperture size is always small. Is there a repair for this that isn't "you'd be as well to just buy a new camera" as a few shops in Dublin have helpfully responded. The camera is out of warranty so I'm not worried about voiding this.

Fault: Back panel feels ever so slightly loose just to the right of thumbwheel. Makes a slight soft click when pushed like there is a tiny gap underneath. Not affecting camera in any way but concerned if there is a loose screw would the weather proofing still function.

When/how it happened: No Idea. No drops or impacts. Great condition otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,792 ✭✭✭zerohamster

It sounds like the screw just under the top. Right of the rear cover rubber grip is completely loose.

It's quite common for the screws in 5D Mk 2 and 7D Mk 1s to come loose internally from use.

Having the rear screw come loose is an easy fix but unfortunately it is a sign of other screws being loose internally.
A service to threadlock all the screws would solve the issue and prevent reoccurance.

Give me a shout on Facebook on the F/1.0 Camera Repair page and I can have a look at it for you.
I am not on boards much anymore so that's the easiest place to contact me.

    Cheers!

    Make: Panasonic

    Item: Compact Camera

    Model: TZ90

Fault: It needs a replacement lens.

We are away travelling and had bought this camera specifically for that purpose. It was doing a great job until we got to a desert. As you can guess....sand got into the lens unit and did some damage. We have brought it to 4 different camera repair shops in 4 different countries. One guy said he cleaned out the sand from the lens but it needed a small replacement part inside of it which he didn’t have. So we left it at that and brought it to a guy in New Delhi . He said the first guy had made a balls of it and it would require a complete new lens. He would have been able to order one but the problem was we weren’t in the country long enough to wait for it. That’s been our problem in the the other shops we have checked. We are only in one place for a few days at a time before we move on. Is there anyway to source the part myself maybe?? I will have 3 weeks in Australia pretty soon. If o can get the part then I could bring it to a repair shop and hopefully they can swap it out.
