Guys is there really any noticeable difference between the 174hp vs 204hp.

30hp!!! Is it worth the extra????

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,162 ✭✭✭BlazingSaddler

I have the lowest spec model (City 52kW battery) not sure of the hp but I think it moves like a bullet!!, even with a low charge (now I did come from a clunky diesel CMax!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 625 ✭✭✭handpref

Said it before and il say it again, get the 204hp- The 174hp is perfectly fine and may suit most people, I had one as a loaner and couldn’t believe how under powered it felt- just my 2c, BlazingSaddler is also correct, I’m used to i3’s, niro’s and id3’s so it depends on where your coming from -

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Recently I was driving up some Welsh hills and I can say the 204hp had plenty of power to go up a steep A road

I reckon with the lower horsepower version my grin wouldn't have been quite so wide, but I don't think I'd have been lacking power

I asked one of the VW dealers and he said he drives both the 174hp & 204hp and can tell no difference between the two!

I don't understand why VW would sell two different motors with only 30hp in the difference if increased performance is not that noticeable.

The price is noticeable though...approx €1500 more expensive for the 204hp version.

    I'm coming from a Diesel 140hp Avensis.

I suppose either or will suit me just fine then.

I have the 204bhp cupra born which is very slightly faster than an id3 204 and maybe slightly faster than the id4 204.

Apart from the initial launch power I'd say I'd be happy with the 174 in the id4 and wouldn't notice too much different. EVs feel faster than ICE, I came from a 190bhp tdi and the EV feels much much faster, from take off anyway.

I've already stopped launching at full power except to show off to someone their first time in the car. If identically specced and 1500 euro saving is a big deal to you I'd say go lower powered one. But drive it yourself first.

Residuals will be strong on either car

    Hey folks,

I've been getting these notifications for the last two days when I start the car. I've gone through a couple and logged into account again via phone and they still come up. Any ideas on how to get rid of them?

    Cheers,

    Mick

Get what suits your needs mate, the 174 is still a fine car, I don’t believe the new dx versions represent good value at the moment but the price of everything has gone up, I do appreciate that there is availability of id4’s whilst other car manufacturers have longer delay.

You could test drive both, the difference will be clear to you then, vw Drogheda have a 174 to test drive, vw airside a 204, that might help - the €1500 difference would power your car for years.

Obviously if you want a far superior, faster, and totally different option consider the Seat Born 😬

Are you sure the Cupra is faster than an ID.3? Both have the same motor and identical 0-100 times, on paper anyway.

Are you on 3.0? I've never seen those errors on mine

yes gtx came with 3.0... its not really impacting anything i can see.. apart from annoying notifications number popping up.. i can still synchronise user profile etc.. maybe it will just sort itself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,198 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

A fraction of a second apparently due to being a little lower. Doubt you can feel the difference

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

There's probably some timing issue when the car starts up and it trys to sync the profile before the connection is ready and thinks the user has been logged out

Just seen a post on LinkedIn that Ohme are the new charging partner for the VW brands. Must mean they're ditching the Elli charger for the UK market at least.

    About time too.

Went to a dealer today to test drive both the 204hp & 174hp and imo both cars are fast.

Personally, I couldn't see any major difference in performance.

I came accross a pre-order cancellation and im now the proud owner of an ID.4

I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.

Im collecting the car this saturday.

Now, can anyone recommend a decent ev charger please?

I also see in the US plug in ev chargers are the norm, seemly hardwiring an ev charger in the states is not required if the charger requires less than 40 amps.

    Thanks.

    Congrats!

For a charger, decide how smart or dumb you want it to be. And whether you want it tethered or untethered.

Dumb means when you plug it in, it starts charging, unplug it, it stops. No timing, no scheduling, no app.

Smart chargers have some or all of the above features.

If you've solar, or planning to, or an electric shower, a zappi might be a good shout as it can load balance it's power.

Allegedly scheduled charging is fixed in 3.0 (it 100% doesn't work in <3.0) so assuming you're going to switch to a night rate to save bucket loads (avoid getting a smart metre if you can), you'll either want to be sure scheduling works if you get a dumb charger, or get a smart charger to be sure.

I'd say delete the car from the weconnect app and do the setup again. Worth a try at least, it's a harmless task

I'd say a UK decision only because the current Elli charge point didn't meet the new regs in the UK.

VW own Elli so I doubt they are ditching it and are even announcing new initiatives with Elli

Lost Aircon/reversing sensors/speed signs yesterday (everything else seem to operate) - was travelling 200km so had to live with it (windows started to steam and nearly needed to pull over!) - cold reboot resolved this issue last night. FYI - i'm on version 3.0 and the car has 400KM (1 week old) on the clock so the software still seems to have pretty serious issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,877 ✭✭✭micks_address

That happened to me the other night as well. A reboot of the infortainment system by holding down the power button till it reboots sorted it..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Congrats, enjoy your new car 😁

I've used both the EO Mini and the Zappi and they're both good

I'd recommend getting one with its own timer as VW still haven't fixed the charging timers. I'd also consider having solar integration, you might not be thinking about it now but I guarantee you'll be thinking about it within 6 months 😉

Also, speak to your supplier about getting a day/night meter if you haven't already and pop into bonkers and start looking at electricity plans

Thanks guys for all the useful information, I really can't wait to collect my id4.

Let's hope VW keep on top of these software issues some people are experiencing.

You would imagine VW would have these issues ironed out before they even dream about releasing a car to the public, wouldn't you!

Are there common faults I should be aware of that I will experience when I start driving the car and dont need to get overly concerned about?

    Thanks

In cooler weather you might notice a few of the safety systems (front collision detection, active cruise control) etc throw up an error. I believe this is due to condensation at the cameras etc near your rear view mirror. Nothing to be done about it, it'll clear after a few minutes.

Audio on the infotainment system can act up some times when changing between Bluetooth device and radio etc. Sometimes it won't switch back to radio, sometimes volume up won't work. Hold the off button for a full 10 second to reboot the radio.

The car (at least on 2.4 and lower) will not remember/randomly forgot your charging locations (used to setup preheating and charging schedules)

If your parking sensors are bleeping, don't rush when manoeuvring the car no matter how sure you are you'll fit. The cars emergency impact protection (or whatever it's called) will kick in and scare the crap out of you by slamming on the brakes.

PS. Lose the positive attitude with regard to VW getting on top of these software issues. They're slow as a wet week about it all.

Congrats on the car, dispite what I say, you'll love it.

Great stuff, it also sorts out scheduling for them , as you dint need to use the one in the car.

It's a far superior product to Elli which is junk (in my opinion anyway)

What part of it do you feel is junk?

It’s not the best but it does what it says on the tin, so interested to know why you think it’s junk.

It's an old model Wallbox charger that's been rebranded and rehoused in an Elli box.

Connectivity is not as good as other chargers, plenty of installation issues compared to other chargers as well.

Traded in my ID3 first yesterday for id4 life dx. Someone cancelled order so I got it after only 2 weeks of waiting...much nicer and bigger car inside and outside than id3 - only thing i will miss is acceleration of id3.

After a long..... wait, picked up my ID.4 GTX. Lovely drive. 😁

Looking forward to take this for more spins in the next week.

So with just 1,000km on my ID4 I’ve noticed a squeaking sound coming from the rear suspension when driving on uneven roads - which given a lot of my driving is rural is practically all of them. Anyone else come across this problem ? Will be contacting the dealer tomorrow to get it booked in to be looked at. It was all going too well - no issues and was loving it so far.

    FB today

    Dear ID. Drivers,

Last Tuesday we informed you about the next steps of the ID. software 3.0 over-the-air rollout. We were positively overwhelmed by your responses. More than 3800 “I want OTA 3.0” replies were sent to us. A big THANK YOU from our side for your engagement, understanding and valuable feedback in the overall discussion. We would like to underline how grateful we are for the direct and open contact with you!

    What's next?

Your submissions were provided to our colleagues who are responsible for organizing the rollout waves – they will then map the variety of equipment and battery variants within a wave. You will receive more information via e-mail once your ID. has been validated for an update.

All vehicles that were included in one of the previous waves but have not yet completed the update (you have already received a corresponding e-mail from We Connect) will also be included in the wave again.

After the start of the wave, we will monitor its progress very closely and stay in direct contact with you, as mentioned in our previous posting. This exchange will help us to improve the overall update experience together. For those who have registered via e-mail but could not be considered in this wave, your submission will of course be considered to receive the update within the next steps of the rollout plan.

    FAQ

Are cars that have been delivered with ID. software 3.0also affected?

    • No. The improvements we made to the software after the initial waves only affect the installation process.

Is the OTA version of ID. software 3.0 identical to the ex-works version?

An overview of the features that are included in the OTA update can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/volkswageniddriversclub/permalink/992530424756637/ or on your local Volkswagen website.

    How is the update performed?

    • ID. software 3.0 is a two-part update. For each part of the update, the update is downloaded in the background while driving. As soon as the download is complete, you will receive a notification in the infotainment display. The next time the vehicle is parked, the installation button appears on the goodbye screen. Please note that after the successful installation of part 1 of the update you will need to log into your vehicle again as the primary user – please ensure you complete this step after the installation of part 1 of the update. More information and detailed installation steps are provided on your market ID. software 3.0 OTAupdate website.

    Warm Regards,

    Your Volkswagen ID. Team

Are you sure it is the suspension and not the rear light bar ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 625 ✭✭✭handpref

What’s the story with this, if your not on FB your not included in the roll out or the ‘lucky’ 3,800 FB users get priority ?

What happened to all non 3.0 people being updated OTA as long as they up their car for the new 12v and 2.4, or did I miss something.

Hi, I am picking up my first brand new car tomorrow.

It has been a bitter/ sweet experience with the sale rep I have been dealing with and now he is telling me he has trouble registering the car with the revenue.

The VW dealer is located in Louth and to tell you the truth I feel like I am the one selling him this car. I'm having to run after him to get the deal done.

If ID.4's were not so difficult to purchase I would of closed the deal by now and looked elsewhere.

Anyhow, sales rep rang me today and told me he will finally have the car registered tomorrow.

Seemingly there was a glitch in the dealers computer system preventing them from registering the car. They could not give me an exact reason.

With all the messing about I have now become paranoid about purcasing this car and im wondering is there anyway I can check to see if the car I am buying is actually brand new or is it a used UK car been resold as new in Ireland.

The dealer also said he would have the car valeted before I arrive to collect it.

Surely a new car would not need to be valeting before selling it would it?

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

You can ask for the VIN or registration number and then run it through a service like cartell. It likely won't be know at this point because it's so new

You might have gotten an order cancellation or something, but I'm pretty sure your car will be new. No VW franchise dealership is going to take the risk of scamming a customer to that extent, they'd be risking millions to save thousands

It's pretty normal for a car to be cleaned and valeted before delivery. It's gone across the sea in a boat and been driven around by delivery drivers who probably had mucky boots on

It's generally just a quick clean and vacuum and a final inspection before delivery

Ok thank you for this peace of mind.

I just wish the whole experience of purchasing a new car had been more pleasant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,142 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Yeah it really should be simple, order car, get delivery date, collect on delivery

I've often wondered how many of the complications are self imposed by the car industry in order to justify the existence of their dealership network

Tesla have it figured out IMO, if they had more service centers close to me I'd give them more consideration

Hi al. We have a 22kw double charger at work. I have the 52kW battery, colleague has the 77kW. I plugged in first today and am drawing down only 4kW, he’s taking 11!! What’s going on here?!! I have the latest update by the way, he doesn’t!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,152 ✭✭✭✭KCross

Is there a 52kWh version of the ID.4? I thought it was 58 and 77, like the ID.3?

Anyway, the problem is likely your cable. You are connected to a 3-phase AC charge point but you are likely using a 1-phase cable so you can only pull 1x16A in that case instead of 3x16A. Take a look at the markings on your cable. It will tell you whether it is a 1-ph or 3-ph cable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,598 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

I think the small battery version tops out at 7kW AC? Still doesn't explain 4kW mind...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 625 ✭✭✭handpref

Check the cable rating Padraig - might be something to look at

Have you got a charging location set? If there's a departure time I think it'll slow the charging to aim to be full at the departure time (or rather it'll try to and probably mess it up)

Other things to check, is the reduced charging current ticked and is the plug properly seated. If the plug is out of position in the car then you'll see the charging light alternating green and red
