Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just today, in the city centre, full signal and with 4G+ showing on the status bar, I was waiting for pages to load which surprised me, enough to connect to the train wifi. Something must be changed. I'm not too critical where I live n the sticks as reception is poor on all carriers, data non existent on Eir, my previous carrier. I'll start screen grabbing Speedtest pages when I'm out and about, see what its like over a few days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

OK. This is definitely not right.

I recall for a few days last week I was getting alert notifications with a little yellow warning triangle icon, which when tapped read something about 'Vodafone network not connected'.

Something obviously wrong. I had 5-10M a week ago.

Thanks, it works for my OH but not for me. Actually I tried switching it off and on again with my sim in her phone just now and it's working!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,575 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I'm going to contact support. My speedtests are gone to pot too. Download speed is crap, upload shoots up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,739 ✭✭✭tnegun

Just tried here on 50/60% strength 4g none of the speed test sites (speedtest.net or speedof.me)would load but boards and rte.ie loaded slowly. I hadn't noticed as am on wireless 90% of the time. I did notice my Spotify cutting out the last week or so though.

    care@anpostmobile.ie

I just mailed them screengrabs. I doubt it's deprioritising, too severe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,575 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Seems like it's not just me so. Please, can everyone email care@postmobile.ie, otherwise they'll think it's just an isolated problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,599 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

Same here. Speed test is bad. Though I forget to turn my wifi on after testing and never noticed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,575 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Got reply, honest in fairness. They're having internet issues and the IT department is working on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,599 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

    Also got a reply. Same.

I'm on wifi most of the day and when I'm on mobile I'm rarely looking at anything that needs high speed. So I wouldn't have noticed for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

Ditto. Looked back at my Speedtest records, August and October I had 20Mb+ tests, all sub 2 to 4 since May until the collapse this week to 0.2 or less.

    This is better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,575 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I get the same, goes from good to bad to good to bad. The jitter is massive though. I could test 20 times and get 2-3 great speeds and rest are dreadful.

At least they've admitted an issue, many times in the past telecom companies won't admit an issue

Same better than last night but still awful here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭shigllgetcha

Woeful. I just wish there was a vodofone shop closer to me to swap back now. I cant swap over on the website because they think im still registered with them

Maybe it hasnt all fixed yet

Its the weirdest network i dont know if there is throttling or prioritisation going on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,599 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

Its obviously just a recent issue. Its a bit early to throw in the towel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 253 ✭✭shigllgetcha

Running much better now. I havent been impressed with the speeds over the last 5 weeks since I moved over, will keep an eye on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

If the problem is with the Vodafone network and not related to prioritisation of bandwidth then you're likely to have choked data of some sort even with a Vodafone sim, unless you're paying top dollar for your Vodafone plan at the expense of other Vodafone customers as well as MVNO. It looks like a different issue. Download speeds dissappear while upload is maintained in some instances. The record below was taken in Naas shopping centre, then last two back home in the bog. After 2 good tests, 11.09 am, download disappeared at 11.32, upload remained high. On return home, 12.12pm, local mast is poor, 3G, low download, tiny upload. Something is churning the network. They need to turn the power off and on again!

I notice is struggles initially, no matter what the speed it eventually gets to. Maybe it's to do with the routing through NL and Malta. I'm sure it'll be obvious quickly and our emails might focus the minds

I'm in town today just did 3 tests

    (22 down /21 up)

    (43 down /10 up)

    (93.3 down /20 up)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,599 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

Mines back to a crawl today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,575 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I'm the opposite, done loads of tests and they all are very fast, faster than I used to have. Multiple locations etc. Not one crawl since yesterday

Hi. A friend changed from vodafone on android to Post Mobile six weeks ago because of vodafone coverage at a cheaper monthly rate. However when sim was inserted in the phone the post mobile message wasn't received but we entered the parameters as explained on boards.ie (Internet GPRSAccount name:PostmobileAccess point name:isp.postfone.ieURL:http://www.google.iePort:9201Proxy port:80). However but this didn't fix the issue. Two weeks later An Post sent another sim but this didn't work either. Roll on six weeks and we went into a post office who were helpful but didn't fix the problem and a tech outlet today to get more hands-on info and they reckon that the phone is ok but issue is on an post side. Calls, texts & whattsapp are working fine but data that has been paid for the month isn't working. I would really appreciate if anyone can help with this issue. Thanks

Your APN all wrong. ips.postfone.ie is the URL or Apn. NAME can be PostMobile or whatever. No proxy or prixy port. MCC 272 and MNC 01. AUTHENTICATION TYPE PaP. APN type Default.

Thanks deezell. I've tried those settings and had no luck connecting to mobile data. Running out of ideas now so I'd appreciate if anyone had any other suggestions. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,850 ✭✭✭Ten Pin

    Typo: it's isp.postfone.ie

    Add a new APN

    NAME Post Mobile (or anything)

    APN isp.postfone.ie (not ips)

Leave other entries as is or blank.

Save it and test if it works.

If not, then test each option in authentication type.

MCC and MNC should be 272 and 01 but those entries should be populated automatically.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

Well spotted. The whole thing is usually populated after you register your new sim, there's other APN for MMS, IMS and so on, they're pushed to the phone without intervention,or should be.

  • Registered Users Posts: 711 ✭✭✭Logo

    Thanks. Will try those settings.

  • Registered Users Posts: 711 ✭✭✭Logo

I tried those settings on friend's refurbished/2nd hand Samsung Galaxy a20e but no joy. Then we tried sim in my phone and data worked. Is there any workaround for this on friend's phone or is a new phone needed? Thanks

Its probably you have to find the right settings for that phone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 711 ✭✭✭Logo

Any idea of where to start finding the right settings?

Brought it into tech shop and guy said it was unlocked. Also it worked with Vodafone sim and works for new an post mobile sim for calls/whatsapp but just not data so I assume it's unlocked

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

WhatsApp requires data, does WhatsApp work when not on WiFi?

  • Registered Users Posts: 711 ✭✭✭Logo

I thought it did but not definite about that - but will check it out. Data definitely doesn't work without WiFi on that Samsung phone though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,599 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

You need to specific with how you name things.

#1 Wifi is internet access from a wifi network

#2 Data (mobile date) is internet from your Mobile provider

You have to turn one off to test the other (with WhatsApp)

  • Registered Users Posts: 711 ✭✭✭Logo

Thanks Flinty. The WiFi network was turned off today to check phone. Friend's phone received incoming calls with an post mobile sim but it did not have phone data. I put same sim in my phone and was able to get phone data. So I assume it is a phone issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,599 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

    Well its a configuration issue.

But every Android seems to like moving all the settings around like musical chairs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

I'm not certain if a Vodafone locked device with work straight away with a post mobile sim, it could be that it's locked to Vodafone but is working for calls via 2g, but not connecting for data via LTE. Try a non Vodafone sim if you can borrow one, 3 or Eir.

Is it showing a strong signal reading, but no 3G or 4G data icon on the top bar? Check that Settings/Connections/Mobile networks/Network mode is set to LTE/3g/2g (auto connect). Also check that Settings/Connections/Data usage/Mobile data is toggled to On.

Thanks flinty. I'm on GoMo so will try that tomorrow.

Just check there's no typos, no spaces no dots in the wrong place. Took me a while to get it right originally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,575 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I did try my PM sim in a vf locked phone last month and it didn't work, I was surprised.

On a side note, I'm back to proper speed data so happy with my PM experience

  • Is it true that you have to pay to receive texts when roaming outside the EU?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 692 ✭✭✭brianomc

I had no credit, monthly auto-topup, and was still able to receive texts in egypt lately.

Roaming costs were pricey, €2 per minute to make or receive a call. €0.30 to send an sms and €6 per MB data. So i stuck to the hotel wifi. The sms with costs said nothing about receiving an sms

  • Website says there is a cost but I'm thinking it's a mistake. Haven't heard an Irish provider charge for incoming texts before

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,892 ✭✭✭deezell

New EU roaming rules are one bit of positive news, if you're abroad and desperately trying to rearrange your cancelled/missed flights, at least you can stay on hold for hours without cost.

The poor Brits (with an ex) must be wondering what they done wrong in a former life what with losing these protections, losing the EU passport Q, business losing access to the EU labour market. and general trade mayhem in every aspect of their lives. You'd feel Sorry for them..... Actually, no, f*** them. Boris is still awaiting his dream to be Churchill, he just isn't drinking enough yet.

Can we have no political agitation in this topic please?

I look for Vodafone TXT code to check what plan am I on (PAYG). I got TXT code for checking my balance (50233) but cant find any other codes. Is there anything similar to this (https://www.vodafone.co.nz/faq/manage-your-mobile-by-txt) on Vodafone Ireland?

I think I posted that list some time back on this thread. Have a trawl, I'd look myself, but I'm too busy poking fun at BoJo.

    I'm currently in the UK

Phone will send texts and can use data, but won't make calls?

Any ideas what could be causing it

    It's a Google pixel 4a
