The support is gone now. They ripped up their social contract when they were harassing people in parks for sitting on a bench together (always the easy targets too) or when they were going in the pubs and telling the owners they will object to their license being renewed, even though the restrictions at the time were just guidelines as opposed to law. They ripped up their social contract when Tony Holohan went in his infamous drive around South William Street and they turned up the next day with riot gear.

Police in Germany are walking around with 2 meter sticks to make sure people are "socially distanced". How on earth can you respect them ever again?

We are not in Germany, as for our own i presume they were following guidelines and happy they would, there was a lot unknown at the time so we should not be so harsh to judge.

a guy imagining scenarios that will annoy him.

Or that would if there was the faintest possibility of those scenarios actually materialising...

At this stage I'm convinced ye'd still be moaning even then.

Anyway, a couple of the local pubs around here got some live music in this afternoon/evening, great experiencing no restrictions all day for the football etc, I hope it all works out.

I think it'll be a long time though before masks disappear from airports and planes. If ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,572 ✭✭✭VG31

Masks weren't required on flights within Norway, Sweden and Denmark from October until recently.

There is of course a big difference between encouragement and education and coercion through enforcement of certs. Your freedom being taken away is a political act performed for the good of the public no doubt but has to be offset by the benefits.Strongarming people to get vaccinated and boostered is coercion. It is clear that the benefits of vaccination fastly outweigh the benefits of boosters by a big margin no matter how the people in power try to spin it. I am healthy and i trust my memory T cells to become active shortly after getting infected. A little later than the innate arm sure but still effective. This is what is happening at the moment to vaccinated, non boosted people who get Omicron. Those who still reject a vaccine wont all of a sudden take one now because of a cert. That mightve happened in the beginning. The question is if and when boosters will remain part of being declared fully vaccinated and if the certs go away for international travel. Just before the summer? I certainly hope so with all the positive movement, though i would not put money on it. In fact i would put money on it not happening. It is the one consensus that might be upheld on european level with of course mask wearing in airports..

The covid certs clearly, clearly were working excellently in reducing the number of cases!

    As were the masks...

No your analogy is flawed. No one ever claimed that 'pedestrians wear seat belts" except yourself getting tied up in a complete knot with said seatbelts.

Ah so I see now we split hairs. Yes medical grade masks work and there is more than one type of medical grade mask btw. Other masks, even multi layer cloth masks with filters (which many people use btw) are known to help reduce risk, relevant to the designated environment including the "open air" but in otherwise crowded environments. Scientific studies have shown this. You can of course ignore this all you like.

    "Cloth masks

A cloth mask is intended to trap respiratory droplets that are released when the wearer talks, coughs or sneezes. It also acts as a barrier to protect the wearer from inhaling droplets released by others.

The most effective cloths masks are made of multiple layers of tightly woven fabric like cotton. A mask with layers will stop more droplets from getting through your mask or escaping from it."

Wording on this isn't as crystal clear as I'd like.

    Is it

    Proof of Vaccination, or

    Proof of Recovery, or

Test. Either Anitigen or PCR....... This is how it reads to me from the site So its only one of the 3 above

    Or is it

    Proof of Vaccination, or

    Proof of Recovery, or

AND TEST either Pcr or Antigen

So in this option either POV or POR plus a negative test either PCR or Antigen

    Back at work today...

Lots of people complaining we opened too much, too soon, they especially miss the covid pass FFS.

From talking to the people here, there's lots of confusion about what's changed, they also said that some pubs & restaurants are sticking with the old rules.

Maybe the sudden stop has shocked them... they can stay shocked all they want, just all long as Mehole and the other clowns don't buckle and go backwards again.

Yup,it’s our turn now to tell the government/nepht/ media

    ”STAY FIRM”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,190 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Still shadow boxing I see lads. Gov & NPHET have been very clear that they're not worried. The media have nearly immediately dialled back the hysteria.

The only people fretting here are yourselves worrying that rules will come back.

It seems that everyone needs a bit of time to get used to this and realise where we are now.

In the event that later in the year there is a new for a new response, they will do things quite differently based on what we've learned.

    Another quote from today...

"The anti-vaxxers are giving us vaccinated the two fingers"

This is gonna take years to undo 🙄

All back to normal. Except schools. All still social distancing, wearing masks, windy classrooms.

I cannot believe after everything we’ve seen from the NPHET government that you can’t understand why people would be anxious. They have shown over and over again that they will implement restrictions at the drop of a hat but are extremely slow to lift them. They have also shown how susceptible they are to the “Karens” of this world telling them what they should be doing. If you think they wouldn’t cave in to these lunatics at any moment you are absolutely deluded.

It’s crazy these people say they trusted the public health officials with restrictions, now those same officials say there’s no rational for them any longer and their outraged.

Had a colleague claiming it's "too dangerous" to go back to the office. Imagine a grown adult saying stuff like that given everything we now know.

This is the absolute last thought that would occur to me.

I am vaccinated but to my mind it now becomes a thought process that I may vaccinate again to protect myself from getting sick in the future, as opposed to getting vaccinated just so they would drop all the silly rules and we might have some hope of getting our lives back....

Once the rules stay gone, I couldn't care less who gets vaccinated and who doesn't.Not my problem.

It's hard to know whether that's genuine (and in my view unwarranted) fear, or just someone who doesn't want to lose their WFH.

There'll be a lot of those too who will use lingering concerns to try and hold onto it if their employer tries to pull them back to the office/commuting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,819 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

This is just paranoia. Barring a major resurgence of the virus there's no good reason to think it would happen. If the government did it they would come across like flip-flopping fusspots and rile people up massively so there would have to be a very serious justification.

Which is absolute nonsense. The LEAST "at risk" group forced to sit in cold classrooms, masked up and hindering their interactions, and probably wearing coats and gloves in some cases too

Who exactly is being protected by this? Their parents and relatives who were in coffee shops, pubs and restaurants without restrictions over the weekend?
