    It makes no difference

The goalposts are gone now anyway. We will have to vaccinate 100% of the population soon

They might as well just come out and say it now.

Herd immunity isn't some magical pinpoint governments can set where all of a sudden all is well either. It's a scaled threshold where new infections start slowing down. The term has been bastardised from the beginning of this and we are no where near herd immunity either, lots and lots of people are going to be infected and end up in hospital these next few months

Yup which is where the estimates for end of September for a large scale lifting of restrictions comes from

I know it is coming from Gavan Reilly, but I am doubting this number of 93.1% Yesterday he was tweeting:

    Vaccination:

    ½: 3398237 (86.9% of 16+)

    Full: 3277167 (83.8%)

    Paul Reid numbers:

    • 13th august "almost 90% of adult partially vaccinated"
    • 24th august "91%"

Given the slowness of the increase, we are probably still around 91% for 18+, and then probably under 90% if you include the 16/17yo with a lower uptake. Which is why the comments are that it can take 6weeks. Because you need to find 2/3% of people to get a first jab (if they exist) and then wait for 4weeks to give them a second jab. Endless

Isn't Janson vaccine 1 dose only? So nor all 1st dose are due to get 2nd doses.

I think I'll wait until there's an official announcement rather than make assumptions.

Since very many under 30s got J&J 90% is next to impossible to achieve

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,894 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

And at the end of those six weeks, it'll be all 12 year olds.

Just rinse and repeat from that shower

Yep now is time for MM to stand up for the Irish people and say 'nope that's too harsh Tony' but that won't happen

The point is the stats on adverse impacts of the virus vs adverse vaccine impacts are not just Irish stats and are well understood by all except the gullible fools duped by the anti vaccine movement

The two stats are "at least one dose" and "fully vaccinated". Someone with J&J is fully vaccinated. The "people who need to get a second dose" is the subtraction of one from the other.

AFAIK nobody in authority has provided stats of the number of people who haven't turned up for the second dose of a two-dose schedule, so for now we assume that the "people who need to get a second dose" are within three weeks-ish of actaually getting it.

Whetever about public transport when it gets to 100% capacity, I fail to see how much protection masks can give customers in a large Tesco, for example, where 90% of the people in there will have been vaccinated and social distancing still applies, and the staff are behind perspex screens. We’re used to avoiding everyone by now while going around the aisles and keep a distance from each other at the checkout. They even have system where they stop you from entering if there’s a certain number of customers inside. I actually saw one of those from the first time ever in a Lidl during the week, so Lidl also have them. Surely they know by now that the vast majority of cases are picked up my being in close contact with a positive case and not by passing by someone in the supermarket. When will we ever move on from the masks?

It really beggars belief the amount of people who think our government have the brains needed to exert totalitarian control through the use of facemasks... How smart do they really think Martin is?

In saying that people still vote for them

In the most recent 14-day epidemiology report, 44.5% of cases had "Close contact with a known confirmed case" as the "Most likely transmission source". That is not the "vast majority".

29.4% had "community transmission" as the most likely source.

So can someone confirm that this 90% threshold from Holohan is already assured based on schedule second doses or is this another coercive push?

Its hard to tell from the posts in the thread!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,762 ✭✭✭DebDynamite

I would imagine a lot of that 29.4% communion transmission contracted Covid by being in close contact with an unknown case, or lied about where they actually contracted it, and not walking past someone in the supermarket.

And in the rare case someone might catch it from someone in the confectionary aisle in Tesco, 90% of over 16s will be vaccinated in a few weeks! Is it masks forever so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,507 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

You might be right about supermarkets, but does anyone really care about masking in supermarkets, relatively speaking? It's not like a supermarket shop is an amazing social occasion which is being ruined by masking.

After a year of experimentation I've found masks which are very comfortable and effective (FFP2). I'm really not bothered by wearing one in the supermarket.

No need for that, this ends when we want it to end. Easier to say than to do with a vast cohort ready to comply and vaccinate whatever moves, they even started vaccinating the animals in the zoo

Even that hardcore immunologist in Iceland has admitted that despite having the highest percentage of population vaccinated, the only way to achieve herd immunity is, listen carefully, "To Let it rip!!". I know several posters in here will jump from their chair, the reality is that the so called "vaccine" should be administered only to the "vulnerable" to prevent them from ending up in icu, the rest should just get on with it and be cured with sotrovimab if it's the case.

It does if you work there. Going into a shop for 5 minutes is nothing for me or the NPHET Government. I have worked retail during the pandemic. 8 hours working in a mask. Most of your lunch in mask and 2 hours commuting in a mask. 10-11 hours a day. It's grim and it cannot be healthy. But the rule makers could not give a fiddlers about workers in retail. Masks in shops will be kept as a pawn to keep NPHET happy

It was only yesterday Holohan saw the Ministers for Health dat for no restrictions as too pessimistic and that outdoor festivals should go ahead. Admitted with everyone vaccinated so they seem ahead of government

Ah yes MM should stand up against The Irish Vaccinated Authority, The European Authority and the WHO if they say people to 12 should be vaccinated. NEPHT has nothing to do with that.

We see it all the time in sports. The likes of John Delaney and Ed Woodward. Essentially pencil pushers who have become profile names in sport. They can go off to other non footballing jobs but they will be signing away their fame, despite their uselessness. Who gives a shite about who the CEO is of Aviva or Flahavans Porridge.

Once the restrictions are over, NPHET all go back to being profileless pencil pushers. 600 point leaving cert nerds, who suddenly got supreme power over the country. They became the most famous people in the country. If anyone thinks they are giving that stuff up without a fight, think again.

That time has past in September last year. They are useless, incapable of growing the proverbial pair of balls. That should be obvious to everyone in this country. If anybody expects a change from this showed if idiots, needs to have his head checked ASAP.

”Where’s the revolution? Come on, people you’re letting me down!”

I have read the study. And nowhere does it state the vaccine is useless after 12 months. It’s cute that you think it does. Eventually you may read something and actually understand it

I see the fearmongers are out in force here as well.

Every time we come to more restrictions easing, it’s about how NPHET wants total power and it will never end.

All of these can end at the stroke of a pen, lads.

But hey, let’s not let logic get in the way of hysterics.
