Could have been a lot worse, they could have caught covid....and possibly passed it onto their grannies....who only had a 95% chance of surviving it!!!

Would you play Russian Roulette even with a 20 chambered revolver?

Im angry for the publicans and restaurant owners as well as all their employees and then all their vendors who are getting killed by this this endless indecision and backtracking which is skullfvcking our economy again and again. Itas time to just open the cases might rise but we shouldnt watching them all we need to care about is hospitalizations.

You need an apology from Covid, the ignorant bastard never provided a plan as to how it was going to mutate and where it was going to party, so governments the word over couldn't plan we in advance and know they wouldn't have to adjust said plans to cater for Covid's selfishness.

At least schools have a plan in place
    Universities have abandoned their students
NUIG sent out their proposed calendar a few weeks ago.
They plan on holding their first year induction week the last week in august
Leaving Cert results won’t be out till the Friday. CAO offers the middle of the following week.
That’s how much thought they have put into it

Universities won’t reveal their plans until their accommodation is booked and paid for, just like last year. And the government won’t do a thing to stop them.

I can't find the comments from Varadkar just now but here is Martin from a while back:

Taoiseach Michéal Martin says Ireland could face another lockdown by winter

Yes it is worded ambivalently but the political significance of it should not be missed. They can't or won't rule out another lockdown this winter therefore it is ruled in.

Translation - Talk to NPHET, I don't make the decisions.

It's Déjà vu with all the kite flying the last few days and we know damn well wheres it's leading

The 5th July date will be moved to 19th July but a week before that it will get moved to mid August because they can't be having indoor open for a Bank Holiday weekend

There is apparently a new variant, the DELTA PLUS. Sounds like a upgrade seat option on a delta plane.

Should we be more scared or less scared...I'm guessing the former!

As I've said in multiple posts over the last six months - and will continue to say, though feel free to pretend you haven't read it or don't understand what's being said - Martin and Varadkar stated there is a real possibility of a lockdown in winter 2021-22.

They haven't walked back these statements and when they made them the vaccination schedule for next winter was the same as it is now.

Therefore I believe that since the Taoiseach and Tanasite have already flagged the possibility of a winter lockdown there is a possibility of a winter lockdown.

So, in short, neither said what you attributed to them? This is the perfect example of what I see on this thread, people seeing ambiguous quotes and interpreting them to mean something to suit their own narrative...hmm
By the way, I'm no fan of the government, and am not defending them, but can't abide by the inconsistencies and misinformation masquerading as fact on here.

Clueless. Thankfully most older people had enough sense not to play Russian roulette with their lives and didn't have the likes of you making decisions for them.

Should probably be called the relaxation of reality thread the way some people go on in it.

There is no ambiguity. He was asked whether there would be a lockdown this winter and the answer was a variation of 'maybe'. He even provided the rationale for a winter lockdown ('emerging variants').

You said that people on this thread were the only people thinking there might be a lockdown this winter. Martin and Varadkar have floated the possibility with their statements about might-maybe-can't rule it out, even if they spoke in politicese rather being frank.

Afaik they are about two months ahead of us in vaccinations

Again I believe the original topic was on travel.

In all fairness at the end of the day 2 simple facts

    1. Last country in the world to open outdoor dining

    2. Last country in the world for indoor dining

No matter what way you cut it, it's indefensible

Remember a **** early 80s film with Chuck Norris called the delta force. We could do with them now to take out a few of our so called leaders

Not sure why you felt the need to include the second quote when I'd already repeated the claim in the first bit you quoted. You seem to be struggling a bit with quotes and quotation marks in general. This might help.

Yup quoted for context. But I think you know that. I detailed no problem with that if that was what you meant

But yes good link that. But no struggle at all. From the ink.
inverted commas, are normally used for quotation

Though can't find the explanation for using the quotes you substituted oddly enough viz.
I included it in inverted commas along the lines of "nothing to see here"

I think you're correct though. There's nothing to see ..

Not sure if this has been covered but already its gone to September with restrictions in place.

Schools are being advised to continue with public health measures such as physical distancing, student pods and enhanced cleaning of classrooms after the summer holidays.

Yeah its a slap in face for all those who done everything the government asked of them the last year in a half

We're postponing our reopening because places in the UK did

These relaxing of restrictions should be the most straight forward there has been since it started in March 2020

I feel like I'm missing something

Delta variant . Can't be a justifiable reason at the moment

So absolutely nothing to do with the comment made that the "UK rolled back on the final reopening of society" and to which I replied?

Portugal imposed weekend travel restrictions in and out of Lisbon, hardly destructive to the hospitality sector, yet here the politicians have today come out and thrown the whole thing up in the air for the hospitality sectors.

France opening nightclubs in 2 weeks AFAIK.

Truely shocking leadership in this country.

I don't see anything wrong with what was quoted in that twitter post.

What aspects of what he said do you disagree with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,190 ✭✭✭✭seamus

I’m sorry but this post is completely misrepresenting the effects lockdown and Covid have had on children.
That's a lovely little rant about lockdowns, but it bears absolutely no relevance to my post whatsoever. I was talking about the covid procedures while in school. You're ranting about kids not being school.

You're dead right. The impact of not being in schools is enormous, it's why it was so essential to get back to schools in September, and why not returning faster after Xmas was a mistake.

Covid protocols enabled this to happen safely. Flagging up that these protocols may continue into next September is a reasonable thing to do right now.

Nah he means that Tobin is a Christian who opposes abortion. This is the scary hidden truth that you will discover if you 'delve deep' into the history of him and his party. Frightening stuff  I didn't know that anyone who wasn't a political liberal on social matters even existed, what should we do?
