Even with that Vaccination number were still very restrictive compared to other European nations of similar sizes and vaccination numbers

Still a lot of negativity in certain circles like NPHET and the Government

Which nations? The vast majority used as examples on here are working on a regional basis.

Actual negativity or you read it on Facebook negativity?

Fair bit of negativity in the U.K. with them postponing their next stage of reopening, and they have the highest vaccination levels in Europe.

Taoiseach says the Government is "concerned" about the Delta variant; public health advice will be received next week about the return of indoor hospitality and expanded gatherings, but plans are "under close review". "Everything we do is subject to ongoing public health advice."

No, no, no. This **** has to stop. Always the same, negative sound bites before reopenings, sowing seeds of doubt and confusion.

There is nothing to be concerned about delta in Ireland, we have exceptional vaccine uptake, hospitals are near on empty of covid cases, schools are closed.
What caused the spread in England was far more complex than just it being more transmissable.
And lets not forget the UK have already lifted the restrictions that we are due to on July 5th. They are pushing back complete reopening and removal of every rule and guideline.

I just had a look COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker, we appear to be about the same as most of the countries I looked at.

I don't think there is huge negativity coming from NPHET or government. The gist is along the lines of we're reopening as planned but we need to watch the Delta variant.

I've seen no suggestion the next stage of relaxation is currently under threat.

Feeling very anxious today with all the news about the new variant and the potential them postponing the next set of relaxations

We all know when Tony is very concerned he gets what he wants

I'm concerned. Not about Tony. Not about Covid. Not about variants or the potential for further restrictions. I'm concerned about you. You are always posting doomsday scenarios and have posted a lot about feeling anxious. I'm going to make a suggestion and it's entirely up to you what way to take it. Avoid the news, avoid RTE, avoid all media, avoid the Covid section of Boards including this thread. It will do your mental health the world of good.

And an issue with the Delta variant.

    Sage advice there Pen.

Stay the hell away from RTE and Virgin news. It's pure chicken little stuff. Meanwhile, in the real world people are getting on with it.

It's frustrating seeing the rest of europe getting on with things and opening ahead of us but that can only be sorted at the next election when people can voice their concerns at the ballot box.

What I will say is, Tony rubs an awful lot of people up the wrong way. The responses to his Twitter ramblings have become a lot more negative over the past couple of months. The man just can't read the room at all.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Rumours he's going to advice against opening up to international travel on 19th July.

There's rumours the moon is made of cream cheese.

Unless rumours can be substantiated I don't give them much credit in either case.

Would I be right to assume you can't substantiate your rumour?

Tony has said he’d like to see travel resume because of the vaccine progress but he has also advised for the fully vaccinated only.

Leo said he would be going against that advice.

For once an interesting piece from Prime Time- how Denmark is using Raoid tests (AKA Snake Oil) to open everything.
Remember NPHET have consistently told us not to use testing to enable? Yet Denmark use it and has lower deaths, cases etc despite lower vaccinations than us.

So what that says is that Michael is lining up for another delay and already positioning himself to hide behind NPHET and Tony again.

Tony of course will claim that they just give advice.

It's the perfect scenario for both sides. Each can blame the other and neither will face any consequences or accountability. Sure it's the public, business and the economy caught between them, but who cares right?

And less than 24 hours later.....
Micheál Martin has admitted the next phase of reopening could be delayed until later in July amid rising concerns about the Delta variant of Covid-19.
The Taoiseach said the Government would follow public health advice if it is to delay the planned July 5 reopening of indoor hospitality, as well as plans to increase numbers allowed in households, and at weddings, and larger indoor and outdoor gatherings.

He has also suggested the resumption of foreign travel from July 19 may only apply to those who are fully vaccinated, depending on Nphet advice.

“Nothing can be guaranteed as of today, and I think there is growing concern in terms of the increased incidence of the Delta variant,” Mr Martin told the Irish Independent last night.

He said the Government did not want to do anything that “undermines” the progress with reopening and that he “wouldn’t be afraid” to delay reopening if that was the advice.

So sick of this sh1te now, so many livelihoods depenendant on further easing on July 5th (far from restriction free too). I must have missed the news that the vaccine doesnt work on delta, all this noise as we approach 4m doses, less than 40 in hospital, schools closed.

Is that a good enough rumour for ye, from an established news outlet? Would people really be surprised with this since Tony's comments about unvaccinated travellers the other day and then Leo going against that?

I hope this is just kite flying .........I don’t think anyone can take much more of this
Icu and hospital numbers which we were told to look at a few months ago look fine
    Vaccinations flying out
The country is running out of money
    Open up

This part in the article jumped out to me. Don't know what they're basing his predictions on to call them accurate.

'Nphet epidemiological expert Dr Philip Nolan has been modelling the virus throughout the last 16 months, with predictions showing a very high level of accuracy.'

RTE really pushing non opening up

Whereas NT and its texters are actually massively against any delays citing that the level of risk/justification just isn't there.

From IT front page, one ‘senior public health official’ said: “Why risk things for the sake of two weeks when we’ve come this far?”

True words spoken from someone who has been completely unaffected by this pandemic and doesn’t see how important summer trade is to most businesses in the country.

Absolutely disgraceful carry-on with the all out offensive yesterday from ISAG/NPHET to scare everyone and our pathetic government appear to be caving in again.

40 people in hospital and 14 in ICU! FFS.

Ah the old "just another 2 weeks" line. Not many seem to be buying it this time though.

Just a general disgust that delays are being floated by Micheal and co. Both Pascal and Stephen Donnelly are due on before 9 though so I'm sure they'll be asked for comment.
