Much better had they said they were ignoring it and not constantly reviewing information as it becomes available, hey?

You have some obsession with that poster, and laughing at him in another thread, why don't you use the ignore button

Because it's a discussion forum, maybe you ignore everyone with a differing view, I just ask them to back up their claims.

So what that says is that Michael is lining up for another delay and already positioning himself to hide behind NPHET and Tony again.

Tony of course will claim that they just give advice.

It's the perfect scenario for both sides. Each can blame the other and neither will face any consequences or accountability. Sure it's the public, business and the economy caught between them, but who cares right?

Unbelievable. “Let’s cherry pick the country where I think everything aligned seasonally, even though it actually doesn’t, and ignore everything else because it doesn’t suit the lazy narrative”. There is nothing wrong with being wrong. It doesn’t even mean having to acknowledge that some measures may have been warranted. There are other valid arguments.

You are the one cherry picking.....

I am only concerned with our data...Irish data....there is 16 months of it!!!!

My god you haven't an ounce of self awareness and loads of self importance...it's nuts!!!

Yes, politicians love nothing better than making unpopular decisions.

Worth remembering that when we are being told of UK/Scotland etc delaying their relaxation of restrictions, that is for things such as social distancing, mask wearing, large scale events, nightclubs etc.

The stuff we are still waiting to reopen (eg. Indoor dining, proper crowds at sports events etc) have been open already there since May…

So I see no impediment to the plans for 5th July, but knowing our leaders, there could be complications for international travel/large events currently scheduled for later in July..

Because of course the virus works differently with the ginger gene.

Christ, you won’t even look at something that challenges your narrative and are proud of the fact.

Yep, a few days of kite flying, followed by nphet meeting, followed by cabinet leaks, followed by a state of the nation address Thursday week the details of which will be known to all and sundry before Martin does his routine.

Yes, politicians love nothing better than making unpopular decisions.

I thought these decisions were supported by the majority and widely viewed as sensible by the public?

    Wasn't there a poll recently?

Tis all pagentry, as long as the message is a positive one (and there's zero reason to believe it won't be) I'm happy to play along.

Why the need for a narrative...we've been living with this since March 2020.

With almost 4 million people vaccinated (basically most of the vulnerable) a delay in reducing the next set of restrictions is very concerning for me that they won't let this farce go.
    Why bother getting vaccinated?
Can see it being groundhog day again like last year.
Bring on the winter and seasonal flu.

Delta plus could be a game changer. Makes sense to delay openings and possibly prepare for level 5 so schools can open in September

Right, but there's literally zero evidence they're planning on delaying the next set.

I actually can’t believe all the ****e talk that’s going on today. There’s fecking no one in hospital, basically no change in case numbers, and 3 or 4 million people vaccinated. Yet here we are, talking about delaying reopening.

People need to open their eyes and see what’s going on all across Europe. We are a complete and utter joke of a country. This whole pandemic has underlined this. A soft shambles of a nation.

Our pubs are important to us but our schools come first, haven't heard that one for a while.

The irony being, the ones who are convinced we're delaying reopening, were throwing around terms like lockdown merchants a few weeks ago.

I haven't been following the last few pages here. But I presume this is just full on trolling? :)

Why the need for a narrative...we've been living with this since March 2020.

I understand the Irish data far better that you for certain. Because each time I formed an opinion based on the data, I challenged my assumptions when new data emerged. And many times I was wrong and changed my view

I was wrong when I assumed as the first wave did not get here until March the seasonal effect would minimise the impact because it hit right at the end of the season.
I was wrong when I assumed cross immunity with other coronaviruses would help burn the virus out.
I was wrong when I dismissed rising case numbers last summer as only variation when a wider look showed clear steady stable increase from July through Oct (still before flu season), with no surge.
I was wrong when I assumed level 3 was all that was needed in the back end
I was wrong when I dismissed the role the uk variant would play after Christmas which was subsequently demonstrated in many more countries.

I believe I am right when I assume lockdown will not again be required for Covid.

Ignoring trends elsewhere is a very strange approach. It tells us what we may face and also gives an opportunity to avoid mistakes elsewhere.

I thought we had about 1 million fully vaccinated so far and about 1.2 million first dose.

Am I looking at the wrong stats?

Supporting current measures and supporting a slowdown are not the same thing. And while some people may not like but back an unpopular decision it probably won’t influence their vote. Unlike those who oppose it.

We are closing in on 4 millions doses given out according to Paul Reid

Excellent progress. Get as many second does done as we can and the second half of the year looks far brighter

Thanks, I suspect some are confusing that with 3 or 4 million of the population vaccinated.

Its not about having some pints indoors its the principle of the reopening and shows were truly moving on and getting out of this in major way but how can anyone not feel anxious and think back to last summer with the constant moving of goalposts and reopening dates changing every week because of this and that 'worry'

We are presently around 65% of the adult population (52% 0f total population) first dose, and 35% of the adult population (28% of total population) fully vaccinated.
A small margin either way due to J&J being one shot, but not that much to make a great difference.

Probably because 60% of the adult population have at least one vaccine in their arm.
