Inevitably we seem to take the most authoritarian laws and practices from the UK, Canada, Aus, etc so it'll happen here too.

One of the reasons I despise broad laws(ie every Irish one), they always end up being abused.

Wonder how it'll go on appeal, since another(presumably not another left wing nutter) judge will adjudicate that.

I don't think the judge is the nutter in this case

Sentencing someone for possession of a few books?
Abhorrent books and interests in his collection yes, but there is nothing wrong with simply possessing such things.
Nor is it illegal to have extremist beliefs.

But seemingly combine the two and that results in a 5 year jail sentence?

Innocent until proven guilty is still supposedly a thing, and thought crime is meant to be a dystopian nightmare, not reality.

While I disagree with his beliefs I certainly think it is utterly despicable for the judge to sentence him under an extremely broad law when the guy had no intent, and the prosecution did not prove any intent, to act upon any of his beliefs in an illegal manner.

No victim, no crime committed bar that broad anti terrorism legislation which could realistically be used to convict anyone.
That isn't right and for a judge to ensure that drastic a miscarriage of justice which results in a 5 year prison sentence, yes, I'll call that judge a nutter.

Maybe your man is too, but he didn't hurt anyone. The judge has.

Never forget, the end goal is zero firearms of any type.

Why ? What did he do ? I watched a documentary on Rudolf Hess earlier and actually felt sorry for him in Spandau prison towards the end of his life. Does that make me a right wing nutter ? You can buy Mein Kampf in Easons, i walked past it the other day, they had about five copies of it on the shelf. If you were stopped outside after buying a copy, what laws would you have broken ?

No, we aren't that mental yet in Ireland thankfully.
As for the books, they are pretty tame, and rather stupid if you were to try the Anarchist cookbook recipes, you will probably be like that half-blinded, hooks for hands, hate preacher, late of Finsbury mosque UK. Who lost his mitts and eyesight mucking about with IEDs in Afghanistan. Gotta question the sanity of that book, that one chapter is on about making Class A drugs, and the next about making improvised explosive substances, and giving you very dangerous processes to do so as well.

But seriously,ALL this info and books are public domain knowledge and dated at that too. Yeah, the guy might collect Nazi memorabilia, and have books you can get online to download, but this really is being fitted up for nothing apart from having odd views and reading material

At least we still have a somewhat presumption of innocence here, plus no sane P/R/C IRA terrorist is going to have a stack of books like this sitting at home on his bookshelf.
As for nutter judges,we have some liberal tosser that lets paedophiles and rapists off with a stern talking to.So yeah, those exist here too.

But it didn't inspire you to go out a get a Nazi tattoo or ring up the KKK and ask them to send you a certificate right?

I don't agree he should be sent to prison either, but he's definitely a nutter and should at least have been put on a watchlist.

Comes into force on the 4th of July if the state doesn't contest it. Some independence day for the Californians.

AOC has been bemoaning the failed state of her family home and blamed Trump on it claiming he didn't do much/enough after hurricane Maria in 2017.

Matt Walsh, a reporter for the Dailywire, started a go fund me page and within a few hours raised $104,000 to donate to her and her family. The GofundME team contacted him saying that the family and AOC has refused the money and all donations will be refunded.

So he done in a short time what she [AOC] couldn't do in four years which is surprising considering she earns almost $180,000 per year from her congressional salary alone.

Although paying for two apartments, buying a new Tesla and designer clothing doesn't come cheap so I can understand her reluctance to help her family by taking care of herself [please sense the sarcasm].

To refuse the donations which would have solved her problems simply because of the source of them plus it destroys her narrative is asinine. This utter bin-lid (and that description has nothing to do with political leanings) is a perfect example of contradictions.

Newsom is raging against the judge while claiming to respect the rule of law.

Making huge fake claims in the news about the Ar being a weapon of war, and responsible for large amount of deaths. He didn't read the judge's ruling where the judge cited data and facts about all rifles in California being representative of 34 deaths whereas knives and fists were accountable for almost 300.

Won't be an issue, possibly, in a couple of months given the recall against Newsom that will most likely happen.

In other news the same process has been started again the Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, given her and her families multiple violations of HER OWN orders and the handling of the situation in the state over the last 15 months. The courts gave the go ahead to start recall procedure.

Got a giggle out this one.

Socialist interweb girl, and Bernie Sanders/AOC supporter, that says tax the rich makes a fortune from exploiting people, then buys a multi million dollar apartment in a state with no income tax and defends herself saying tax the rich (her chant/slogan) is only meant for Billionaires, not millionaires.

Its great how quickly they "fall out" with socialism when they're rich themselves. Just ask Bernie who as a socialist has three houses, a few supercars, and a net worth of over $3 million.

While AOC and her squad are a bunch of utter brain melts,it is actually horrifying to see how much literally a million dollars is worth in the USA anymore.

When my aunt died in NJ a few years ago,she lived in Linden, which is an average town and working-class neighbourhood, where she had worked for her adult life as a high school nurse. My uncle was a worker over in the Exxon refinery and had died appx 5 years previous.
Between them, with pensions, savings, and the house, cars and whatnot, when it came to divvying it up amongst the next of kin. They were both worth one million dollars together.:eek:
If you are considered being on the breadline in CA if you are making less than 150k PA,and the average middle-class family there is overdrawn or credited out to 3times their wages. Saying you are a "millionaire" in the US these days means you are pretty much a working-class Joe& Jane in the "Left coasts".

With AOC it was a rebellion vote against the established (incumbent). Don't forget she got 15,500 (or there about) votes TOTAL. Not won by, but total. Her district is one of the smallest, and is currently being eyed up by Pelosi as being dropped in a "reshuffle" of the districts a punishment for her [AOC] not towing the party line. AOC was seen as a more relevant person in terms of age, agenda, etc. to the younger voters as well as the protest vote.

As for Bernie, simple, look at his base. The majority or core are young people (under 25) who love the notion of free stuff that comes with socialism. All of them never have heard of or learned about the horrors and failings of communism and socialism or simply believe those countries did not enact it properly and that they'll succeed where others have failed. The younger people are idealistic and also ignorant of the fact the man they support who calls for everyone to work together has never done a days work in his lifetime living off either others or the country. IOW he is simply a better paid social welfare recipient.

I figure this is why these liberal types are so anti-gun. They know they are unstable themselves and believe everyone else is as irrational, emotive and unstable as they are,so therefore if there are no guns or dangerous things around them or us all. We'll be all safe from harming each other...

IOW we should all live in a nationwide nut house, with the govt and police acting like the nice doctors and nurses, keeping anything dangerous and upsetting away from our fragile grasps of reality.

    Big decision from SCOTUS today.

Law on green cards and TPS for illegals is constitutional. IOW anyone entering illegal and even those given temporary protection status are not to be given green cards because of the way they entered the States.

The big bit of this, other than the decision, is it was unanimous. All 9 justices voted to uphold the law which barred the issuing/intended issuing of green cards to illegals.

I remember that interview well, I had gotten a rifle shortly before (Brno 452) and was a bit jealous of all the shooting they had over there.

There was a plague in Wales around that time, too and they were looking for people to travel over there to help.

In fact, there were a lot of rabbits here at the time, too. I remember a 20 acre field getting up and moving when I went to the gate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭tudderone

I was on a camping holiday to Donegal in the late 80's and near Killibegs seen a field exactly the same. If you waved your hand, half the field just moved. Must have been literally hundreds of rabbits in one smallish field.
