They would if he told them he'd start axing routes, leaving us perish on our little rock.

They won't eliminate routes as such, just reduce the capacity... at the moment Ryanair are waiting on new aircraft but will not base them in Dublin, instead they'll go to London-Stanstead and Milan-Bergamo, with any others going to Malta.. Summer season capacity has to be planned now but when you have the Governments chief kiteflyer saying no travel until the end of the summer at the earliest then families just won't take the risk...

So you'll have your Vaccination and will be told by Varadkar to have another Summer of holiday at home...#Staycation

Capacity may increase for Winter Sun for the South of Spain and Canary Islands but apart from that just hope we get the aircraft back for Summer 2022...

There is zero chance they will throw open the door on the 2nd of June - if they do I'll be shocked. The mood music is August and even then that's only because the government will be forced into it by the EU green cert.

I think even the biggest travel fans amongst us would be shocked if that happened. I think the government is choosing their language carefully whenever they speak about travel. At the moment what we need, as a starting point, is the fine gone, and MHQ off the table for the EU.

For anyone getting vaccinated soon and hoping to travel before Ireland (eventually) complies with the EU Green Cert initiative, it would be worthwhile asking for you DOB to be noted on your cert beside your name.

If, as expected, our lot have to be dragged kicking and screaming into Green Cert compliance in August, then the HSE vaccination cert MIGHT be sufficient for some countries/carriers in the interim. eg. Finnair at the moment would accept it.

Finnair may take it, but that is not a guarantee that Finland would accept you.

No nobody can make plans, but isn't that the point with a pandemic, nobody can make plans.
    It is what it is.

Thousands of people are making plans all over Europe fortunately.

Ok. So they can just extend it. So we're back in the waiting room until June 2nd. While I would not take Leo's comments as this being extended to August, it's still frustrating sitting around waiting for it to happen.. In your opinion, do you think it'll end June 2nd, when internal tourism reopens?

    I hope so, really.
I think they would find it very hard to justify keeping it.
    I'm optimistic :)

Where I could see this falling apart for them is when there is an influx of foreign tourists, which could begin from June 2nd. It'll be hard to push staycations when there are tourists everywhere. They're too money hungry to miss tourist season.

No restrictions to go to Belfast airport
    €2,000 fine for Dublin airport

Ignoring all the misinformation, noise and kite-flying, the absurdity of the above can't last much longer. I don't think we'll see an extension of the act in June.

Especially if we get inbound traffic, which we will. They want money coming in. Fingers crossed. I've seen enough rain to last me a lifetime.

Well they can make plans, but as we have seen a pandemic can change people's plans very quickly
You just need to be flexible

Can't see there being an influx, the message from Ireland is "Cead Mille Closed" ... French and Italian Ambassadors already lodged complaints with the Irish Government over the MHQ... no word on an "Airbridge" with the USA.... no definite date on restoration of the CTA then there's going to be limited visitors from the UK, put off by the high prices and lack of availability due to all the Staycationers...

Finland definitely won't. They need a date of birth on whatever vaccination card you bring with you. The HSE ones don't have that.

My parents are hoping to fly to Spain in mid July to private house over there. Both fully vaccinated.

They are both from NI. Will they be subject to the fine if stopped by Gardai ? Could they be turned back ?

The name on the HSE cert is filled in by hand.
I will have my passport and ask whoever is filling in the Cert to add "DOB 31/6/1970" beside my name.

I have gone back over the last few pages but maybe I need to go back further. Being reported by Regina Doherty and various others on Twitter that the international travel has been pulled from today's cabinet meeting.

    Incredibly frustrating if true

Yeap, it's off the agenda, Housing and the HSE Cyberattack is all they're concerned about this week so far..

It is yes and as I posted last night it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference if it went infront of cabinet this week , next week or the week after. Makes no difference to actually restarting anything. It would only be a discussion as to progress being made on getting the green cert system in place etc

    But true to form.
Ireland has on many times sought derogations from the EU to delay enacting legislation.
I suspect that the anti-travel faction within govt will try to use the ransomware attack to extend the 6 week compliance window for the Green Cert.

Let us know how you get on and how it works in Belfast and if it's straightforward getting through. Will be very interested to know for my own travel soon.

Arrived a few hours ago, no problems at all. Sitting outside a beautiful pub having a pint.

Worlds away from the fear and hysteria crap going on across the channel.

I wonder what will the situation be with EU citizens who are fully vaccinated, will they have to have PCR tests and quarantine before Ireland implements the green pass, that would be farcical

No. Intercounty travel is allowed and once they are in the north they are subject only to the law in the 6 counties. The gards cant stop or fine them.

Weren't they supposed to also remove most/all European countries from MHQ today? If so, it would make a difference to some French and Belgian nationals living here

Removing countries from MHQ list doesn't need a cabinet meeting

I'm not being funny here but have you read any Government plan for the restart of Aviation in Ireland?

They don't need one, they just need to remove the fine.

I know that wearing a mask outdoors is very off putting to some and the reason for not choosing to travel to Spain (when the fine is dropped).

Per El Pais, it looks like this particular mask rule could be gone very soon.

Convoluted in translation or are Spanish politicians masters of politic-speak?
...it is true that it is possible that we will not take long to be able to make clear proposals for retracting the use of masks in specific situations...

    Fair question :pac:

I expect the reality though of their fellow med countries opening up to tourists without any such rules has/will come into play.

I was there last year and was not that bothered about the mask rule outside but still it wasn't ideal
