Sorry to be an idiot but can anyone tell me where I can check the expiration of the travel fine? I think it came in around 12 March - so would it be 12 June more or less?

Fear has really gripped this government, I live in Switzerland and everything has been open now for a long time with cases dropping and dropping to become insignificant. Also on the weekend I drove to Germany to go shopping, there are zero restrictions at the borders and guess what cases are dropping everywhere.

Ireland needs to become a member of the EU again and open up freedom of movement immediately

People here in Ireland seem to think its the same all over Europe as it is here and its not and never was since April last year. There's not the same doom and gloom, listening to daily numbers like it's the angelus, finger wagging all over the place. Other countries across the continent are just getting on with things, here our lives have basically been on pause for over a year now.

Can't wait to get out of here for a while this summer, I went last summer too and it was like being in a time from before covid apart from sticking a mask on getting on a bus or going into a shop.

I think there are a lot of people in this country that'll be very disappointed when it's all over. I think they get some kind of weird thrill out of it all. You're 100% correct though, the rest of Europe is looking to the future. I was in Northern Italy last year, and despite the horrific beating they'd taking, all the deaths, they were upbeat and hopeful.

The regulations are due to expire on the 2nd of June. However it's very likely to be extended to end of June I'd say.

    Thank you

Where can I check this myself though? Is it a regulation that's issued by the DoH or what? Thanks again.

I think all eyes are on NI. I firmly believe that the open door through there will finally force the governments hand.

Do you know when is NI due to update on International Travel? Thanks

I think someone mentioned that it's up for review the 24th May. I'm sure someone with more knowledge of it will respond soon.

I wouldn't panic yet. We're booked for Italy 2 weeks later. As for the number of seats booked, are you just looking at the amount of people checked in? Likely that most haven't as it's easier to make changes if you're not I believe. We were on a flight over last year with 19 on board.

We were in Bella Italia last year as well in August - felt a lot safer than here.

Not sure whether to book for August this year - Im afraid of loosing a fortune if these idiots in government keep us locked up for the rest of the summer - decisions, decisions!!!!

Maybe best to give it a couple of weeks to see what happens

In Peschiera del Garda? Hard to know. It's easier for us at the moment because we don't have kids, and we're booked since January 1st this year. I think we can cancel quite late. It's a very difficult one for families with the extra costs with potential testing and travel insurance hikes. We'll watch it for the next few weeks and will decide if we move it or not. I bought equipment out there recently, so I could pay a visit to the factory to check on progress if I wanted to go there fully legally if the fine is still in place.

Again it could all just be a play on words. I wouldn't expect foreign travel to fully resume until well into next year. I wouldn't expect unrestricted EU travel to even resume this year. I think they may be twisting things a bit. We can only wait for June 2nd to roll around I think and we may or may not get our answer.

Literally the only place I see or hear doom and gloom on a daily basis is in this thread.

I personally wouldn't expect travel to get back until some time next year by which time all these tests, etc will hopefully be gone as they are a huge expense and hassle for most people.

Yep thats where we were - lovely town altogether.

We have 2 under 14 so that might be an issue depending on how they account for kids with the travel cert.

No just not a pessimistic person like the posters on here and I don't see any doom and gloom anywhere

I don't think I've ever actually been in Peschiera, must go and see it. Limone is our favourite spot, do it every trip, including this year hopefully! Sirmoine booked as well. Have done Malchesine and Torro Del Benaco as well in the past, along with a good few place in Como, Maggiore, Iseo and Orta.

I wouldn't say people on here are especially pessimistic, I think the frustration with all the mixed messages is starting to do most peoples heads in. Afterall, this is a tread about travel, full of people who love travelling. It's made especially difficult with the rest of Europe planning ahead and us being left behind. I'm sure there's a tread somewhere with people that love the pub getting really frustrated too at the lack of direction.

Big difference between doom and gloom, and reactive pessimism to terrible, mixed messaging from 3 or 4 people in authority the past few weeks. It depends where your starting argument on travel is too in fairness.

We all love travelling I assume. But this thread is so gloomy with the moaning and complaining constantly.
And what are the mixed messages? I have found it extremely easy to understand the laws and restrictions by reading them, not sure how people were confused.

I'm not sure if it's mixed messaging but the issue is that this changes every single day. That is the nature of a pandemic, I understand that, but I had read that in June people would be allowed to travel and now it's August? I dunno, we are doing so well and I wouldn't jepordize that purely to sit at a pool as much as I'd love to.

Type foreign travel Ireland into google and hit the news tab. It's constant change. Last week Leo wanted to open travel to the UK immediately, despite the scariant, which seemed a bit strange to be fair. Now it's August. Donnelly was on recently anout it returning soon. It goes on and on. Now having said that, what Leo says should just be ignored. It's usually just kite flying and part of the constant not so subtle tit for tat with FF. We all know the laws that are in place, but their legality is becoming more and more questionable by the day.

Well, you can understand why people are so uncertain, however the main thing people have to do is stop listening to all the kite flying that Varadkar does in the media, he's the next Taoiseach and his party has an election for the vacant seat in Dublin coming up so his media team are eager to show that FG will sort out the Health and housing crisis....

The bottom line for me is that one I have the jab and the Garda siege of the Airport is removed then i'm outta here for a few weeks...

Why be confused by what people say may happen?
    That's all just speculation.
Just know what law is in place then you shouldn't have any confusion.

And there is no sign of that law being removed. The law is no longer proportional. We have all seen the responses from the EU. It's getting pretty frustrating at this stage. I know that they have the right to drag ass with the green cert, and when they do they can still impose their own entry rules, but keeping us prisoner for no good reason is getting a bit tiring.

Adding to that, I am frustrated by the lack of discussion in the Dail about these restrictions. Where is the opposition? Looking at the schedule they have an hour spare to debate the Gender Pay Gap Information Bill 2019 but apparently not to discuss our possible violation of several EU treaties on freedom of movement.

'Laws' have nothing to do with the mixed messaging. We all know what restrictions are in place now, it's what timeline it is to remove them. The people making these decisions are the ones with the 'speculation'. Can't believe you said this thread was that most negative compared to some of the stuff in the other travel thread. I count constantly telling people to stay at home and don't think about travelling for indefinite amounts of times until you're told to as severely negative, but to others it's their daily gatekeeping.

Ah well I don't read the other thread really!
