A well insulated needs to be built that way from the start. Very hard to retrospectively correct design and build issues.

Not saying they are a waste of time. But they can only make marginal gains. The reality is old houses will be cold.

The amount of insulation is what’s doing to make the difference. It wasn’t long ago floors were poured on a few token sheet of polystyrene.

To be clear, I’m not say the extra work you did was wrong or that you shouldn’t have. Far from it.
Just that there’s only so much we can do to existing house. These energy schemes are a start, but the government need to drop any notions that people won’t need to heat there house somehow. Oil, gas, electricity. It’s all gonna cost.

We really need to adopt nuclear power.

Yup.Because it has to subsidize the MYTH of being able to run an industrialized nation with almost every roof under solar panels and every little hillock having a giant bird mincer on it.:mad: Even in the most optimal conditions of a windy and sunny day, Germany couldn't produce 40% of its daily power by green methods...And still has to fire up 3 anthracite burning former E German plants to make up the loss.

There's a very strong environmental case for nuclear. Most of the objections are based more on dogma than science.

I have nothing against it per se.Except here in Ireland. Simply because of our lackadaisical attitude to construction projects, that go way over budget, and the attitude of "Ah shure it will do !" and grift and graft and stroke pulling. Building a reactor is dealing with extreme elemental forces of nature where you can't afford to take shortcuts.

Could you imagine if a reactor containment vessel wall is built with pyrite-loaded cement because someone was on the take? Or some cheapo does some grift putting in GB HP pipe when it is stainless thats needed?

Plus, do we really want a real-life cast of The Simpsons running Ireland's answer to the Springfield nuclear power plant? There are enough Montgomery Burns, Waylon Smithers, and Homer Simpsons running the shop as it is, without letting them at a nuke power plant.:eek:

Anything goes wrong with one of these, and the excuse of "No one to blame, lessons were learned, we all must move on!" won't cut it if we are all glowing a faint blue, and our kids have webbed feet and an extra hand growing out of their heads and Irelands joins Pipriat as a ghost country?

Bit stereotypical & pessimistic, no?

We're well capable of doing big, high tech projects well when we put our minds to it. Look at Intel, they have countries lining up to have the Fabs, but they're staying here - and it's not just for the corporate tax rates (when it comes down to it big corporations pay frig all tax anywhere).

The biggest problem here we'd have is NIMBYism, and I'd get around that by building it in Leitrim. No one cares if Drumshambo or Mohill are the new Pripyat - who'd tell the difference?

Not a peep from any news outlets that I could find.

Apparently a chap who filmed the guards raiding a church in Athlone was the victim of a dawn raid by AGS a week later who, acting on a complaint, took him to a garda station for a mental eval and Tusla removed his 2 kids.
Having been cleared yesterday morning he's trying to get his kids back still and seemingly getting stonewalled by AGS.

Supposedly he was told the complaint came from his mother who evidently has been deceased since 1997.

At least that is what I've gleaned from twitter posts thus far.

Yeah I heard about that too but there's nothing online about it apart from what the National Party is putting out. There's zero chance that RTÉ will even mention this because it goes against their narrative.

Did anyone else hear about a recent celebration being held in Dublin to honour some Rabbi from the 2nd Century? Apparently it was the biggest gathering all year. Funny how Catholics are banned from mass but Jews and Muslims can throw a party scot free.
