Someone with some sense at last. Getting people vaccinated has to be P1.
You say that as if that isn't priority one

It would make a lot of sense if the UK gave us even a small amount like 200,000 vaccines if we promised to administer them to people living in the border counties. It would be a win win, we get more people vaccinated and it would help stop the spread of covid in NI

A simple measure would be to allow people employed in NI and their families get a vaccine there. This might be a significant number in north Donegal.

The UK are ~20% through their vaccination program and people are going on like they have vaccines all done and dusted and going outta date in a massive fridge somewhere.

This whole notion about the UK giving Ireland spare doses just seems to be gaslighting from some media.

In this case I think it's only fair and proper that it is reported. Two individuals got severe clots. These individuals happened to be injected from the same batch of the vaccine. It could be coincidence. It could point to a faulty batch. It could be a random occurrence. It could be many things. I don't see why RTE shouldn't report this. They could have had a much scarier headline than the one they used. They didn't. So, I think RTE could be cut a little slack on this one.

The issue is that if/when its shown to be a coincidence, that RTE will barely mention it. Thus adding further fuel to the unfounded doubt over the vacine itself. How much coverage did they given when the germans changed their position with the over 65s? The also barely said anything about it proving to be 80% effective on the ground.

They ordered 150 million vaccines. I was being very conservative with a 200,000 hand out, as long as we vaccinated those at the border counties it would greatly benefit NI

Just because you order X doesn't mean you get X in a timely fashion.
Canada ordered the most per capita of all countries, but they have really struggled with supplies.

The Eu have 2bn+ ordered. The Uk, like the EU, will have a surplus eventually. The point is it’s unlikely the UK will have them any time soon.
(The Uk have more than 150m ordered btw)

You seriously think we'll have lockdowns for the likes of the flu or other non-covid illnesses?

I'm sorry but that's lunacy and anyone that genuinely believes that needs their head examined.

The UK could be willing to give us some vaccines after all their adults who want it have received both doses at which case we'll hopefully not be too far behind. If they offered before that it would be a huge own goal politically for the Tory government in my opinion.

They're over 20% and going at a far faster rate than the rest of Europe. We were aiming to do 100k 2 weeks ago, after 2 weeks of just over 80k we've now lowered the target for next week to 84k. The inertia is absolutely incredible.

I used the ~ as I don't know the exact figure, maybe you do?
42.2% first dose out of 100%
2.1% second dose out of 100%
So.... 22.15%, does that tie in with your figure?

The UK have been pulling back on vaccinations also, they peaked and now they are slowing down, for the very same reason as us.... supplies!

They're basically a quarter of the way through it. Their supplies will ramp up the same as ours will. But they're currently going a good bit more than twice as fast as us as things stand. They're getting further ahead.

AstraZeneca shortfalls. The coming week will be a bit slower but the following week is going to be bumper apparently.

they haven't done category 3 yet, why are they talking about category 4

I assume a bumper week will be one where they actually deliver what they said they were doing to deliver? That would only be the 2nd time they will have achieved that - the other week was when they said they would not be delivering any vaccines and they managed to follow through.

Groups roll out simultaneously due to logistics in getting vaccines to some in an earlier group. AZ still being kept to younger age group, so all going on HCW or vulnerable young.

Cohort 3 will be using mRNA vaccines, Cohort 4 will use AZ. They are doing both currently. Or would you rather wait until the last person in Cohort 3 is vaccinated before going on to Cohort 4?

Cat 3 are getting mRNA, cat 4 are getting AZ. No reason to wait until cat 3 are finished.

that headlines make it look like category 3 has been done already.

You were talking about over 85+ now you're talking about over 70+
Cohort 4 are being given a different vaccine than the 70+, so Cohort roll out has no impact on the over 70+ getting vaccinated.

My mother is 84 and hasn't been contacted by her GP since being given what seems like a placeholder appointment of April 5th.
It's no big banana if it takes another couple of weeks or if Mary down the road who's 82 gets it the week before her.
