I see the temporary 2021 clerical officer competition opened today. There is currently 31 ahead of me OOM in my county. Just wondering should I apply.. What happens if you start a temporary position and they reach your OOM for a permanent position?

It depends if you have a job, I wouldn't be leaving a jobs for a TCO position but if your out of employment currently it would be worth going for it.

You resign as a TCO and take up the CO role, a TCO has to give one week notice if they are leaving but its possible for you to leave TCO on friday and start as a CO the following Monday.

You may not get the same department, location or role though.

TCOs are often needed to cover for sick leave, maternity leave, shorter working year, etc.

These wouldn't be permanent positions, which is what this CO competition is hiring for.

They always run a temp panel, needed to cover staff shortage at peak periods (summer months etc). A good few TCO's stay longer than expected in a position. I know a few TCO's in a job for last number of years.

I'm sure your time as TCO counts on the payscale point also? So your increments will still carry.

Reapply....you never know if you may need it ir not. If you are in a TCO positiin when they call you, you will be put in deferral until your contract ends.

I was given an expression if interest for Wexford Customs Clerical. Pulled off the original CO panel.
I'm starting on the 23rd Nov.
    The original panel wasn't moving.

If you have passed Interview at this stage, you have a good chance of a job offer. As for how long you might be waiting that depends on which county and how far up they are on the panel.

You can email PAS and ask how many people are ahead of you on the panel, that would give you a good idea. CO2020@publicjobs.ie

I am in early 1000 OOM for Dublin and have an interview in 2 weeks, I didn't think I would hear about an interview for a couple of months but it seems to be moving faster now!

Good news for you so, hopefully you should hear soon..i got a message to confirm I was still interested for Dublin and they give you less than 24 hours to reply. Then a couple of days later they send you an application form and tell you to send pic of Id and give you about 48 hours to hand them in so keep a close eye on the message board 😉

Would set myself up on zoom with a family member or friend first so you get a good idea of how it works.....one you have your first or second chat on it you won't be as nervous.
Of course usual interview nerves will set in anyway but they will allow for that. I heard they are quite good at settling your nerves before the interview!

There are some good tips on the attachment they sent with the interview invite , it's worth a read...tips about finding your camera lens so you can look at that when speaking...etc...best of luck

Re Donegal, anyone gotten a job offer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 Penny_pocket

Anyone have issues uploading the application form and emailing passport? I had to do both by midnight last night. The link in my message to upload the application form is giving an error pop up and I’ve just got a bounce back email in my junk telling me the co2020 email inbox is full so the email with my passport wasn’t delivered.

Try it again this morning explaining what happened - I'm sure you're not the only one.

It's all very secretive alright. I'm sure your paperwork is fine & in the unlikely event it isn't I'm sure they'll contact you.
