Is anyone else using a desktop PC? (i.e. not a laptop)

My computer has a built-in webcam, I'll be able to tilt the computer around a bit, but I won't be able to pick it up and give them a full 360 of my room

If I need to go I certainly will be, they can join me on the laptop webcam if they'd like :D

Has anyone raised this with the Law Society at all?

Hi guys , just wondering if anyone is legal support staff and if your working through level 5 restrictions?

I called the number listed and spoke to shirley, she said that they will not be monitoring our eye movements and people are not going to be adversely affected for reading legislation etc. She said a decision has not yet been made regarding bathroom breaks but they have received a lot of calls about it. She said if you don't have use of the equipment/software listed you will not be able to sit the exam. I asked her if you download it on one computer for the mock could you download it on another for teh actaul exam, she said she was not a technician and did not know the answer to that.

I also got through to the number, not sure if it was Shirley but she was very nice and friendly. I feel sorry for the people who are on the end of these calls as they're not the decision makers :(

I got the impression that they still haven't decided on various things- the bathroom breaks, bringing a drink into the room, what happens if the technology fails during the exam and will the number to call be answered.
She didn't give me an exact answer on us being allowed to use paper for answer plans or if we can print out the questions which was the biggest concern before all the new questions about the software and potential cheating accusations.

As I said before though, the lack of planning and coordination on their part is really unprofessional. Other professional exams went online but they were given ample notice. The accounting exams were typed I believe but you have to remember, not all of their exams are theory and involve 3 solid hours of typing essays and problem questions.

I'm also wondering if they'll be changing the dates seeing as other people were told there might be an option to sit physical exams? So many unanswered questions.

They really need to stop messing us around.

I didn't even think there would be a question over being allowed to have a drink of water beside you. Did she say anything in particular about bringing in drinks, or did she just not have anything to say in that regard?

I can vouch that that's possible.

Anyone else considering not sitting this typed exam? I haven't done much typing for the past 6 months, and I need a pen and paper to plan my answer. This is just how my brain works. I feel that sitting the exam this time under the current rules will affect my grade. Did someone on here say that the LS will try to arrange some other sitting or did I dream about that?

I agree with the above are the society allowing people to do online written exams like august or are they holding a sitting in December?

Leaving cert is going ahead in person on the 16th nov.....can’t see why we can’t do the same.

We need have options can’t just be a typed exams for all as it doesn’t suit majority of people

I was fine with a typed exam but it's a dealbreaker with the potential instant fail if I move my eyes away from the screen. I always look up and around me when I'm thinking and also ill have to look at my legislation.

Every decision they make they continue to lower my opinion of the law society.

Has anyone got an answer about what will happen if our wifi goes during the exam?

I have strong wifi in my house, but it's unfortunately been cutting out a lot over the last few weeks so I don't know what I'm going to do if it goes during the exam. Obviously we have no control over whether or not there will be an issue with our wifi during that 3 hour period, so I feel that we should be advised in advance on what to do if that happens.
We can't be expected to stop mid-answer and start trying to deal with tech issues, we will totally lose our train of thought.
I've emailed about it, but (unsurprisingly) they haven't responded

Where are you getting instant fail from?

I'm worried about this too, there's nothing we can do if it happens to cut-out mid-exam :(

I spoke to LS about this as there is a lot of construction going on in my area and the electricity can be intermittent, all she said was that there had been a lot of calls about people saying they were worried about sharing wifi with housemates/ construction in area etc. She said this was all new to them as well and they were figuring things out.

I understand that this is all new to them, everyone know that, but why do they have to figure things out two weeks before we are due to sit the exam

Wow, do they actually think that that's an appropriate answer two weeks before the exam?
If they weren't going to have everything sorted by now they should have just postponed it a week or two, this is so annoying

Thanks for letting me know though

They can't or won't fail anyone for looking away from your screen during the exam. Imagine the uproar. I'm sure if any suspicion arises you will be asked to show your room etc.

Hi anyone have the March 2020 Constitutional Exam Paper?

Or even just the Casenote Q?

Is the casenote question for Constitutional similar to the EU one? i.e. pure random and not worth studying? Or is it much more doable?

    Pick 2 of the following:
    i. Shatter v. Guerin [2019] IESC 9.
ii. McCrystal v. Minister for Children [2012] IESC 53.
iii. M v. Minister for Justice and Equality [2018] IESC 14.
    iv. DPP v. JC [2015] IESC 31.

Its even more random than for EU from what I can see, only 2 cases have ever come up more than once. But unlike EU they tend to be more recent cases, so if you're up to date you could get lucky

Radio silence! I know they recruit quite a lot of them but weird they didn't at least give people panel numbers or something!

I've already started my in office training!

At least it will look less bad if they offer me it and I turn it down now, I was told I could apprentice in-house a few hours after the JA interview but courts don't need to know that ;)!
