    Are shops closing?

Its not working because the rules are not enforced. Level 5 won't work as people still won't follow the guidelines.

At this stage I am looking at it, going why should i bother anymore.

We originally locked down around mid March. June 29th was when some meaningful restrictions were lifted.

3.5 months of lockdown with the majority doing their part.

And cases started rising again at the end of July until now.

So we need lockdown for 3.5 months to get 1 clean month.

That is not a viable strategy. Even when we weren’t locked down, we still had fairly severe restrictions.

Indeed, 90% of people following guidelines are sank by the 10% who don't so now if they bring in level 4 or level 5 there won't be the support that was seen in March and April.

People became disillusioned with the lockdown. Whatever about the politics behind it, the BLM protests were a turning point as they received little criticism for breaking restrictions. It can't be one rule for some and not for others.

Left right and centre people are not following the guidelines. I am not going to suffer another lockdown if we can't follow the guidelines. Now i do what's best for my family and their welfare.

I think the biggest lesson I’ve learnt during this whole thing is that there is a massive cohort of people in this country who are inherently awful nasty spiteful people who will do basically anything to make themselves look better than everyone else. Facebook is an absolute cesspool. Constantly full of sanctimonious self-righteous posts about how everyone is a granny killer and telling us all how to wear masks properly.

At the start of all this a few shops and cafes in Greystones were singled out by this self-appointed mob to be boycotted when things opened up again and then when places actually opened up all was forgotten. They had made their little point and shown everybody how good and virtuous they were and that’s all that matters. I remember early on I was out for a walk with my wife and daughter and we came upon an older woman in tears because a couple who had just passed her had ripped into her for being outside when She was clearly over 70 (she wasn’t) Truly despicable behavior.
    #bekind indeed eh?

Great post. Tajecaway social media and this fake "do gooder " bull**** would dissapear, if they didnt have their hundreds of followrts, that they couod look like mother teresa too!

Left, right and centre there are far more people following the guidelines, so you are in a minority.

Makes a mockery of your "nobody cares anymore" claim.

Lockdown and restrictions don’t work. We have proof of that. Either the cases won’t go down at all. Or it will take months to get them down and then they’ll just start again when we stop hiding.

With that in mind, I hope for maximum restrictions today so the government/NPHET can see once again that they don’t work . Slow learners sadly.

We need the people on the 6 figure salaries to work harder and find solutions that don’t involve crippling the economy, putting half a million out of work and destroying every social aspect of life.

The sooner a vaccine arrives the better, even if it is more of a placebo. 80+ year olds will still die every day but we’ll go back to accepting that. As long as that horrific word Covid is not listed on the death certificate.

They are too stupid to come up with solutions and or not ballsy enough to implement them... their sollution is borrow borrow borrow and rosary beads out forba very quick vaccine. That was the plan in march and its the plan now...

Well, I remember back in March/April how I was ripped into by an elderly couple walking their dog, when I took my kids to the local park. Apparently it was ok for the vulnerable to be out on a walk but not for the kids.

Numbers still flying up, so people aren't following the guidelines.

You see with the gaa club parties after the county final wins.
See the amount people in local supermarket at 7.30 on a sat night buying loads of beer, house parties galore happening.

A pub down by Wakinstown Roundabout clearly breaking the 15 rule and gardai do nothing!!

Maybe the numbers are flying up because there is a virus out there and people are just doing everyday things... going to work, going to school, visiting parents for dinner, looking after family members, going the gp etc

The virus is going to spread unless we all stay locked in our houses which simply isn’t an option.

Again you don't go to GP is you have symptons, same for everything else.

I’ll be heading off from Dublin to donegal for the bank holiday this weekend, and not one c#nt will stop me. Know a good few work colleagues heading to various parts of the country actually.

Looking forward to it, the back roads are a god send, you’ll not get a silly looking guard waving people on there.

Be warned that the gardai are also on backroads too. I know that for the N7 checkpoint they have some backroads closed so that they can funnel everyone thorough the checkpoint

Long story short and some of you guys here have said it. If they are so comcerned with cases, the only way you will get them back down, is with a draconian lockdown. Because unlike in march when this hit, people now know it for the mickey mouse virus it is , their behaviour has changed, based on the evidence of the last few months. The cats out of the bag...

But huge numbers have no symptoms at all or symptoms so mild they don’t really it is Covid.

This is where the media, government and NPHET have messed up. People believe it’s a deadly virus and are monitoring for a deadly virus.

They don’t realise that a slight cough can be Covid. Even perfect health.

It is long past time that 'those in charge' in this country concentrated on the numbers needing medical assistance due to Covid, and give up this scare-mongering 'positive cases' number they so love.

Even now they could reduce lockdowns/restrictions, although it should have been done during Summer when the virus was less virulent, and let the virus spread throughout the population in a somewhat controlled manner, so that our health services can cope with the percentage of new 'cases' that require hospitalisation.
Masks, distance and hand washing alone could achieve that.

In addition, strangely there appears to be no 'push' to provide information to people on how to bolster their immune system which would help greatly in their dealing with infection.

Hotel accommodation goes from level 3's "services to residents only" to "existing guests only" in level 4. What does this mean?

Those who have booked before today can stay but no one new?

They will probably do similar to the north...if you weren't in the hotel by 6pm last Friday in the north, you weren't deemed to be an existing guest and weren't allowed in (with exceptions for essential workers).

Concentrating on numbers needing medical assistance, doesnt make for scary headlines and doesnt suit the government or nphet agenda, of trying to suppress this virus by fear... the more this goes on, it becomes so crystal clear why its all panned out this way... years of inaction, no leadership, no reform etc, then this hits and we expect these spoofing failures to change their spots? I actually think im the deluded one, to have had even the tiniest bit of hope / expectation, that this whole thing, was going to be anything other than a complete **** show, its all this country knows!

I don't understand what people think is going to be different after this lockdown. The government and HSE didn't get their house in order after lockdown number one so why do people think this one will be different? Einstein's definition of insanity on full display.

Except Einstein never said that :)

In fairness its being pushed hard that a slight cough is a sign.

Might not be as deadly as we think or maybe it will hit harder during winter, i don't know the future.

But we need to understand, if you are experiencing anything show a slim chance of the virus, do the right thing.

That’s right, he didn’t..... but it was still said and is widely regarded as a valid POV! The fact is wasn’t Einstein who said it is irrelevant to its validity as an opinion of insanity

    ................
Masks, distance and hand washing alone could achieve that................

But not everyone is doing the masks, distancing and hand washing to the correct extent or at all. If we all did it and only had a handful of close contacts a week there wouldn't be 1000+ new cases a day for the last 4/5 days.

Enough folk aren't doing the simple things............. level 4 or 5 is a load of t0ss as I don't think many are catching Covid in Penneys or their local hairdresser but they are all likely to be mandated to close from tomorrow.

To be fair the government told NPHET recently that level 5 wasn't happening two weeks ago. Even the opposition are now in favour of level 5 esque restrictions........ once Mary Lou nods the yellow vest brigade will all stand in line also. Loads of folk are into more restrictions.

The elephant in the room is the bag of cans brigade who are IMO the key spreaders.......... they won't follow any guidelines IMO be it level 1, 5 or 99.

In which case, why the need to falsely attribute it to Einstein?
