The elephant in the room is the bag of cans brigade who are IMO the key spreaders.......... they won't follow any guidelines IMO be it level 1, 5 or 99.

Which is why they need to be forced, be that fines alone or curfews with fines etc.

In which case, why the need to falsely attribute it to Einstein?

It’s been attributed to Einstein for as long as I can remember so I think we can forgive someone believing it was him who said it!

Again, it doesn’t make the verbiage of it any less relevant.

Hotel accommodation goes from level 3's "services to residents only" to "existing guests only" in level 4. What does this mean?

Those who have booked before today can stay but no one new?

Don't think so, know of bookings cancelled Friday afternoon. Was to be on a training course for work this week, got call friday afternoon, cancelled because all accommodation locally closing down. Only a few km for me but others would have needed accommodation. Like so much with all this farce, these hotels and B&B's closed down on the roamers of increased restrictions Friday morning.

I've booked to do course on the continent as need it to work next month. Accommodation folks and training facility loose revenue. another (small) nail in the coffin of our economy.

Great show that everyone should listen back to.

Yesterday's Brendan O'Connor show that I referred to above is now online:

The GAA yet again showing they do what they want. How can players be playing all over Ireland and no testing. As Bevan says, Louth have teachers playing and lads living with elderly parents

Testing healthy people and restricting them living will seem like a pointless folly yet. Get them to sign a waiver and let them live.

Exactly- and if they don’t want to play they don’t have to. It’s not compulsory

But closing retail outlets, hairdressers, barber shops etc doesn't address the folk who are the problem.
I'm fairly sure nothing will be announced to curb their behaviour but the loads of folk will be depressed off their heads with the restrictions....... no round of golf, no haircut, no spin to a nice walk........ just stay within x kms of your abode for the next 4/5/6 weeks again........ sledgehammer to crack a nut but the but is nowhere near where the hammer lands.

So, 10km max travel distance? All shops closed.
    Essentially it's a lockdown.
I'm due to fly into Dublin Friday next for 3 days, any point?

Big movement going on right now to keep gyms open on account of mental health and there being very few cases linked to gyms. Wonder if it will make a difference

The problem is, there's not a single td who looks like they actively use a gym, so how do you expect any empathy.

It's like the lads on here "sure you can jog" "buy a set of argos weights"

If it was that easy gyms wouldn't exist

Yeah that's true, if it was winter I might agree with them but who wants to jog outside after work at 6pm in November? Hopefully the media outlets might get through to those fools, huge amount of people I know use it as an outlet for mental health (as well as staying physically healthy), but yeah let's just close everything down, covid is all that matters.

It will stop it being spread in these places as well as houses etc at least. The people going to house parties and spreading it are also going to these places remember.

Somewhere between none and none that will make the slightest bit of difference in combating the spread of this virus.

Ah come on, Running for over 20 years now and Irish winters are more mild than ever.

Actually easier to train in the winter as less wind and rain then our summers.
A few long sleeve tops, high viz on them and cheap pair of gloves for a fiver and off you go

Better tell 'em to stop wasting their time with a vaccine so.

Or nphet- none of these are gym users. As are so many of the public- as we’ve seen here from ignorant posters they haven’t the first clue what goes on in a gym- they probably draw “comfort” from their closure

Very hard to pick it up in retail outlets considering you aren't around the same person for 15 mins, if you are, you be still around them in lockdown.

Just open everything up and enforce the basic rules by the gardai.

You can still get the flu after you had the flu jab. Just lowers the risk that's all.

It is long past time that 'those in charge' in this country concentrated on the numbers needing medical assistance due to Covid, and give up this scare-mongering 'positive cases' number they so love.

Even now they could reduce lockdowns/restrictions, although it should have been done during Summer when the virus was less virulent, and let the virus spread throughout the population in a somewhat controlled manner, so that our health services can cope with the percentage of new 'cases' that require hospitalisation.
Masks, distance and hand washing alone could achieve that.

In addition, strangely there appears to be no 'push' to provide information to people on how to bolster their immune system which would help greatly in their dealing with infection.

Strange indeed. Yet at every level of restriction proposed the take away's peddling the crap junk food which will wreak havoc on your immune system are one of the few business' allowed to continue as normal.

Yeah but those who are high risk of flu CAN'T support taking a vaccine. This is the sick irony that MAY also apply to Covid if indeed a vaccine is ever discovered.

Death sharpens his scythe for those regardless.

Because you have some sort of immunity to whatever influenza is in circulation though?

The Government is discussing restricting Off License hours as part of the new restrictions.

I think there's a reasonable chance we see it happen

Nope, immunity to a strain that they hope comes around that particular year and even at that, you can still get it.

Why do so many old people still die from it when they have the jab?
