What bars are open under level 3 in Waterford

Can people please let me know what bars are remaining open in Waterford or have suitable outdoor areas to remain open with the current level 3 lockdown?

I actually didn't go out at all the few weeks they were all back in business and was looking forward to catching up with 2 close friends over a few pints this weekend.

Walshs in Georges St is open too. As is the outdoor set-up outside T+H's (also run by Walshs I think?). In fairness at the moment nobody is going to a pub for a session. I think its just to maintain a little bit of normality in the current climate. I would not begrudge anyone sitting down for a couple of pints, switching off and watching the world go by. I happened to be in town mid afternoon yesterday and the T+H's set up was almost full as were the two tables outside Walshs. This for an overcast Wednesday afternoon too. Sure there is some folk who would prefer if we all stayed at home but then again perhaps that is where the current surge in cases is coming from : home drinking, BBQ's & house parties since the Summer? So it looks like you are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't!

After speaking with my friends it looks like we will be postponing our pub visit to a future date when things calm back down.]

Might try a beer garden with the wife for some lunch over the weekend though.

I thought somewhere like Pinks would have stayed open considering their large open area? but they are going to be closed completely for three weeks.

The Craftsman seem to be open for outdoor dining. There is a table with a parasol on it near the side plus they are using the outdoor smoking shed as a table too. Hope they gave it a good clean before they serve food in that!

Still only can serve up to 15 people. So it's paying for waiters, chefs, food for serving 4/5 tables every hour or two versus closing and taking the Covid PUP

Residents can be served indoors with non residents can be served outdoors. Max of 15 people

Grand spot but **** me its cold and only getting colder as the weeks continue. Wear a load of layers and ye be grand

Walsh's and T & Hs looked busy when I passed about 4pm with all the seats outside taken.

Geoff's closed but Heerys is open and Kazbar closed too.

Good few people in town itself with most shops open.

Town was quite packed yesterday when I was in there. Big lines outside the bookstation, JD Sports, inside the Book Centre, are people stocking up in anticipation of a lockdown?

Residents of hotels can eat and drink indoors. Non residents limited to 15 outdoors.

Yeah they have there small smoking area open. First come first served

And I happened to be one of the heads sitting outside Walsh's, or @ least up the little lane @ the side of it sipping a lovely pint of Guinness reading the paper. Gotta find your bit on sanity & normality in this surreal reality! I had been out in Newtown Cove swimming beforehand so I really deserved those pints. They seem to be doing a lot of work in their other venture (T+H's) so I'd expect that this is the space to watch. To be fair they made a huge effort @ the outside areas in both pubs - when the pubs re-opened briefly. Perhaps they are gearing up for outside Christmas trade?

Nobody really knows if there is a rule about drinking on the streets ?. What's stopping a group getting a few pints and drinking them outside the premises

Technically they have to be consumed 100m away from the premises they were bought in. Practically it's impossible to enforce, because you could easily buy your pints from one pub and then travel 100m close to another pub.

Next few weeks will be interesting. Publicans fighting for indoor dining for Dec/Jan. Suggestions of a Level 3+ being created

It would be nice to think or believe that when the clocks strike 12am on NYE that everything would revert back to the way it was! Wishful thinking unfortunately

Most people usually let themselves go and the prolonged festive period socialising/eating/drinking for the best part of 3 weeks. Hard to know how the Govt/NPHET will approach the Christmas period. TBH they will have had 6 weeks to devise a strategy or plan. But I wouldnt hold my breath there either!

Any bit of normalcy over Christmas will probably result in a spike in the New Year. Next year is shaping up to be much like this year. Even if the Pfizer vaccine is rolled out successful it will be about this time next year before normality returns. A lot of ifs and buts there but that is the way of things currently Im afraid. Dig in for a bit yet.

Here's an idea... DON'T WATCH THEM EVERYDAY!
Nobody's forcing you to, so just make a decision to tune out for 3 or 4 days. And maybe from boards too.

Very sensible advice there. Something I took onboard a while ago. Amazing how it changes your mindset. When I get home from work I leave the phone in the bedroom. Watch TV etc. Or read a book. We can't change what is happening @ present so if we are fully immersed in the Covid carnival 24/7 then it will begin to take a toll. All you can do is look after yourself.

A certain place up just off Barrack Street is prioritising locals and coming off as a little aggressive in terms of 'people saying there regulars' trying to book tables. Its nice to look after the regulars but not letting any else in is a bit much

Norris? Seems like a very unfriendly "locals only" dive anyway but yeah, i saw that tweet and it was dreadful. Akin to saying we dont want any heads that we dont recognise ever. What an awful way to attract business.

Really? How could that be the case when half of them streaming out of the place are young fellas, unless they started drinking at 10! The issue was its very off putting for anyone booking a table to be told right out to jog on.

A regular would be someone who drinks in there regularly,doesn't matter how old they are,plenty of young fellas would be regulars in there I'd imagine.

Doubt many would be booking in there anyway who wouldn't be regulars,the pub is looking after the people who have looked after them for years,personally I don't see an issue with that.

Agree regulars are what keep pubs ticking over in quiet months with only 15 allowed in its only fair to look after your loyal customers and keep out blowins who may bring the viruses
