So, we went out for the day, for the first time in a long time, and came home to the news that NEPHET are seriously worried by what they are seeing across the country, and it looks like there are major issues in a number of other countries as well.

We were visiting family members for only the second time in 8 months, looks like it was a good thing to do today, as we may not get the chance again for some time to come.

Level 1 to 5, realistically, I don't really care about the numbers, and for sure the virus doesn't, it only wants one thing, victims who are vulnerable.

So, how do we stop it.

We have to make it clear that for the next period of time, NO visiting means NO visiting, indoors or outdoors, no exceptions other than for compassoionate grounds. Hard, very hard, but the alternatives are in many cases even harder.

We need to find a way to persuade the 13 to 45 year old age group that they have to wear masks in all the locations they go to, other than their own homes.

We have to persuade the school kids amd students over 13 that masks are not optional, they have to really socially separate even when they're walking to and from school, and at school other than when they are actually eating, and getting on the school bus and taking their masks off when they're seated and the driver can't see them is not cool.

That same age group also have to be educated about their socialising outside of the formal school environment, which to reduce the transmission of this virus means masks, social separation and hand washing/sanitising, and simple things like NOT sharing mobile phones around the group to watch the latest tiktok video.

Social separation means what it says, and that includes hanging around outside McDonalds and the like, groups of 15 to 20 teens that can be contained in a 5 metre diameter circle is NOT social separation.

Restaurants, pubs and clubs are unfortunately a luxury we can't deal with right now, and visors on waiting staff have only added to the problem by directing breath at seated customers. Takeaway and delivery are the only viable options for now.

All team sports and the like are also bad news right now, as the response to a team winning has been clearly seen, and it's not helping the situation.

We urgently need a reliable fast test, which seems to be a problem right now.

Contact tracing seems to be a problem, and needs dedicated resourcing, and not by taking people away from other essential services especially health service professionals from disciplines like speech therapy and the like.

We need a better level of information from NEPHET and Government so that we have the real figures, rather than spin and obfuscation.

We need to see and hear a very clear message from politicians and the like that the rules apply to them too, and anyone that thinks differently needs to have signifcant sanction applied to them.

The HSE needs to be told to get it's house in order, and sort out the mess that they have made of recruiting qualified nurses who returned to Ireland in February and are still waiting to get a job offer, and making sure that there are an appropriate number of beds available in the system.

We need a very clear plan for testing incoming visitors to Ireland, and no negative test, either before travel or here means no admittance, even for essential travel.

The message has to be got out there loud and clear, the world is dealing with a pandemic that is unlike any other that has been seen in close on 100 years, and dealing with it means that there are a number of aspects of life as we knew it that have to change until either there is a vaccine to prevent the spread of the virus, or effective treatments that limit the damage and deaths become established.
