Why is it meat processingplants in particular?

Any connection to more being busy with larger take aways opened back up or is that stupid :o

Looks like nothing has changed ref meat factories
    July 11
    https://www.independent.ie/world-news/coronavirus/td-tangles-with-meat-processing-chief-over-infections-39358686.html

Meat Industry Ireland (MII), which represents the factories, told an Oireachtas committee yesterday there has been approximately 1,100 positive cases in meat factories, since one of its members first reported a positive Covid-19 case on March 17.
Five factories had more than 100 positive cases among its workers by June 1, according to HSE figures.

With 1300 additional tests compared to yesterday, the positivity rate is the exact same

    1.4%

Interesting if you compare with state of Victoria’s positivity rate.

    Mon 1.59%
    Tue 1.89%
    Wed 2.91%
    Thurs 1.73%

Something going wrong in the food factories. What is it I wonder?

Can see what's happening in the asylum centres but am not too sympathetic, god forgive me. They chose to arrive didn't they?

Nothing to do with demand for the product. Meat sales have actually dropped in the past months.

That's my question because as you say other places are opened and there hasn't been this issue. I'd love to know what has drastically changed recently.

There were loads of outbreaks in meat factories all along. I think the question is, why hasn't that changed? I'm not a big fan of trying to find someone to blame for everything, but stricter guidelines might be needed, and companies/workers need to follow them as well.

Yeah seems they're standing out now because it's not really spreading on that scale anywhere else

I presume your in full employment or else very financially secure. Not everyone is in your position.

Honestly I think all of our positions are precarious in a situation like this.
I think that the economic cost of pretending this virus won't infect and maim a large part of society in the long run is a much greater cost than the cost of trying to stop the reimportation of cases.

I also think we'll arrive at this decision like every other decision in this crisis.....
After the curve. Think masks, care homes, PPE etc.

I feel for anyone and everyone effected by this.
I've lost family members old and young, directly and indirectly.
Just found out a close family member is going for a test.
Odds of death significantly higher based on their age.
Schools not opening would be equally tragic and preventable.

It's cliche but we all are in this together.
That means we all have to solve this together.
Then stuff will get back to normal.

Speaking of which......I don't see many windows.
The places getting affected are the ones that can't mitigate the airborne risk.
We need environmental engineers carrying out risk assessments of these places and gov to support them with any changes to their HVAC systems needed.
And we need it yesterday, we now know beyond doubt it's airborne.

60 cases to come from Kildare, Laois and Offaly tomorrow

Well that figure appears to be wrong given that there is 80 in one spot so why did they give that 60 figure out

Not to this degree though in such a short period of time though as far as I know.

In a way yes, good that they’re not sick and end up
In hospital. Bad is that they didn’t know and how many more could they’ve infected?
Is there any info out there about the differences between asymtomatic and symptomatic spread? Or are they both the same as in transmission of the virus not how it’s passed on.

Was there a statement today to the effect that some vulnerable people were affected? Not sure.
