Have they decided on what counties will be rolled out/connected first and in what order they will be done? Or even when the first rollouts/connections will start taking place?

    Anything about Offaly namely Birr?

With 19 counties surveyed so far in their "phase1", it will probably will be another 3-4 months when all counties have some element of surveys complete.

I wonder then will it be a case of them sitting down and starting back in the first counties again for phase 2 of surveys?

If they follow the flow of first surveyed first install Cork and some areas in Galway will be first connected.

The NBI map hopefully will be updated with more timelines in August if there quarterly update is being adhered to. A quick look at their facebook page and it's basically everyone asking similar questions re. The map and survey/rollout dates.

Friend of mine recently had this. He just followed the instructions on the nbi website where you get confirmation from providers he couldnt get more than XMb. He then emailed the government address called out on the nbi website. They got back to him to confirm they would take it from there and was it ok to use his data or something.

Fyi he was marked as being able to get FTTH but couldnt get more than 7Mb.

I've emailed them a few times and gotten nowhere. One time they replied to me and told me I should get onto comreg..

Spotted an NBI van in Islandeady today (near the Gaiety).

Spotted an NBI near Mullinavat KK earlier.

I've mailed my local TD re: the removal of what looks like a TON of BCP points that were schools. Trying to figure out if they're planning to find alternative locations or what. This removal for us sees the nearest BCP (for what it's worth), moving from 2km away to 19km away in another county, leaving a big void.

Those BCPs are a waste of time. They removed schools from the public lists as far as I know anyways. I just wish they'd update the nbi map with new survey dates.

A big void for what? there should not be people hanging around school carparks to use the internet. was a stupid plan anyway.

Does anyone know if this would indicate distribution points for FTTH in our estate?

    https://imgur.com/a/1LtqxMS

We don't have any kind of fibre here but a KN engineer is saying we are pretty much good to go, it just needs to be connected. Said it would be a days work max.

Does that image seem correct for that or is there more to it?

Has anybody heard anything about an update for this quarter? I know it's early days in Autumn but would be nice to get an update soon

Should be this month going by what they stated a few months back. Im really hoping they will give more of an idea of timelines, even for possible surveying timelines.

I've noticed the map is now showing BCP points, not sure if these were on it a few weeks ago not that I would ever use one mind.

They've been there since the map was launched.

They really should just cut them all before they waste resources on them.

Seems to be a Digiweb venture but you have to go to the privacy policy to find that out.

Quite happy with that tbh. I had Digiweb for years (and Smart Telecom before that) and really liked them.

The first fibre to the home connection is expected to be made towards the end of the year, but the document says Covid-19 has already “impacted the delivery” because contractors are having difficulties getting access to buildings such as schools and GAA centres – as well as to islands.

There are issues with deliveries of required supplies from overseas because of the pandemic and the crisis has also affected the design process as well as other operational matters, according to the document.

There are also issues in relation to the availability of accommodation for contractors across Ireland and concerns over the recruitment of personnel.

    DCCAE also say
However, mitigation measures where available have been taken to minimise the impact.

Interesting stuff included on the forthcoming European Electronic Communications Code. And these bits .... I thought.
    Encroachment

The encroachment element of the overall contingency subsidy is capped at €100 million and can only be applied for in specific circumstances and is subject to robust governance mechanisms.
    State Aid

The European Commission approved the National Broadband Plan in the context of EU State Aid rules. The Commission issued its Decision on 15 November 2019.
The Commission assessed the measure under EU State aid rules, in particular the Commission’s 2013 Broadband Guidelines. The Commission concluded that the scheme's positive effects on competition in the Irish broadband market outweigh potential negative effects brought about by the public intervention. On this basis, the Commission approved the measure under EU State aid rules.
The Department has responded to the European Commission on two State Aid complaints received and is currently dealing with Judicial Review proceedings in the Irish Courts in relation to the mapping process.

Last night a Department spokesperson said: "NBI remain confident that in the medium to long term they can recover from and mitigate these delays to make up any lost ground."

He said that the targets for the roll-out remain the same.

"Design work is complete or ongoing in target townlands across 17 counties with over 63,000 premises surveyed to date. This survey work is feeding into detailed designs for each deployment area and laying fibre should start shortly with the first fibre to home connection expected around December 2020," he said.

All quiet on reducing the duration to 5 years. It would make such a big difference.

The lack of any form of timelines, NBI map updates or any visible roadmap is always worrying for projects such as this. Totally understand they cant commit to anything in stone but some sort of update would make a nice change rather than the usual "we are connecting Ireland" posts then put out.

Coupling this with the fact I have zero faith in Eamon Ryan makes me think we are in this for the long long haul.

Yep, not overly impressed tbh, I registered on the site, and within a few hours got marketing call trying to sign me up to other products.

A marketing gimmick I suspect, little else.

Same thing happened to me but I signed up with them. The customer support is ok but I was getting slightly higher speeds and cheaper with Eir. Switched over after being promised better speeds which I didn't get, sorry I switched over now as i'm stuck in a year long contract. Not sure who I will choose as my provider when FTTH is available with the NBP.

For the record, two tweets. Surveys seem to be running at about 3-4k per week at present.
    Cork - Carrigaline - NBI
    Mayo - Mayo CoCo

had an NBI guy out looking around Glounthaune in Cork, just one guy with a high vis with NBI and he was checking poles and houses for duct access or overhead

Eir (KN/Circet) over the past 4 weeks have recently laid ducting for fibre (likely IFN) here and have been replacing poles, but no actual fibre blown into it or DPs yet

wonder will this knock it off the NBI list?
