Can you elaborate? We've top 25 testing in the world. Even higher when you take out the smaller countries.

Eh? Worldometer shows Ireland #31 in tests per million and #52 in total tests. Where did you see Ireland as top 25?

Take out countries with less than a million people and we're #19 in tests per million worldwide. Total tests is irrelevant, you have to base it on populations.

Where do we rank in those countries with less than 5 million population?

A lot of countries are using home testing kits etc. Ireland's testing is PCR. The gold standard of tests.

You also have to remember that virtually nobody in Ireland has this disease. 99.8% of people tested don't have Covid. It is difficult to get enough people to test to move us up that league table

This is very true - have to remember that 18 people testing positive yesterday is not even 1 person per county, its less. Really small numbers.

They're so worried about international travel yet we're doing literally nothing about it. Increase the testing base, hire more labs, test on arrival, enforce mandatory quarantine. It's not rocket science like.
Our labs are already working at capacity. You can't/shouldn't farm out testing to labs that arent accredited or trained to do diagnostic testing.

Just because a facility, college or company has a "lab" doesnt mean they can provide Covid testing. One size doesn't fit all.

Labs are at less than half capacity.

From the Irish times, Martin saying this.
“That is why we are adopting a cautious approach” to travel, he said, adding that second waves of the virus are emerging elsewhere including across Europe."

Right so please do explain where is having a second wave in europe. There's going to be localised lockdowns, there's going to be spikes, we've seen spikes and we've seen the source of infections be it meat plants, mines etc, but second wave there is not.

User you've quoted works at the lab in UCD from what I can make out based on previous posts.

Some labs will be at capacity, hosptial labs etc, they do have other tests to do apart from covid too.

We never hit the 100k a week capacity for tests or came close, thats including the tests we sent to Germany too. The HSE have said its been scaled down and apparently its basically being built from scratch again. Its the speed of the testing that is really important though and thats our biggest issue.

The testing times have been getting slower despite the fact that the demand has decreased a boat load. No answer for why its so much slower either.

We have time now to build an infrastructure to catch the virus before it spreads and we get a second wave. I like what Stephen Donnelly has been saying for a while now. Clearly understands the situation and what we need a lot more than Harris did. I'm slightly more optimistic that we have the people who are that bit more proactive in government now that maybe things can improve. Leo and Harris were all reactive, not proactive at all.

Demand has increased significantly in the past two weeks? Do you not know anything about what you're talking about?

He basically has taken soundbites out of Leo and Simons' press conference and muddled them together for this press conference
    Useless bunch

No shock here with all the talk of second waves from the various media outlets and officials. A nation that can't think for itself at the moment
