It speaks to the ineptitude at our decision making level, as an island nation with the virus well under control for two months at this stage, that we aren't opening everything and just restricting foreign visitors.

Yep. Pretty inevitable the the Children's Hospital would turn out to be anything other than the fiasco unfolding in front of our eyes.

Nice to see the Indo have direct access to the cabinet meeting.

I certainly won’t miss having Leo the Leaker as Taoiseach that’s for sure.

What’s wrong with having a meeting, coming out this evening and giving full details then? This BS to test the public mood wore thin a long time ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,740 ✭✭✭Naos

Be a bit inventive, if you can book a table for four or six for 90 minutes have another of your party book a table in the same premesis for 90 minutes later than your first booking, etc... Though you might need the walk in between sittings to work off the calories of the substantial meals.

Or just don't be selfish, accept that the restrictions at the moment are a pain for everyone who wants to enjoy a meal or a point out but need to be adhered to.

Have your 90 mins and move on to allow others enjoy theirs, knowing this will all come to an end soon.

That sort of sh!te is standard operating procedure regardless of who the Taoiseach is.

That sort of sh!te is standard operating procedure regardless of who the Taoiseach is.

It tends to be for 'major' decisions. Leo would do it before announcing the door of Leinster House was getting re-painted!

He literally cannot make a decision without leaking it first.

Anyone know if and at what time Leo will be doing the announcement at today?

    (In terms of barbers/gyms/sports etc)

So some more information coming out as per independent.

From 20th July, weddings of 100, funerals of 100.

From 29th June, indoor gatherings of 50 in an enclosed space. Gatherings of 200 outdoors.

From 20th July, gatherings of 100 in an enclosed space and 500 outdoors

Strange that pubs can't open properly on 29th June so...
I would have thought lots of pubs could do decent business with 50 indoors and up to 200 outdoors.

Maybe not temple bar area but most locals. Obviously a bit trickier on weekend nights.

Once they finish up their meeting. If there is one, after 4.30 I reckon.

Simon says this isn't a speeding up, I'd be fairly sure it is seeing as only 2 weeks ago he said himself he didn't think weddings would be allowed for a good while

Is there any sign of movement on the 2 meters?

Is there a Press Conference this evening giving details of the new Rules starting June 29th ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,194 ✭✭✭stargazer 68

There is a lot of talk about the pubs on 29th and rules etc - no mention of restaurants. Anyone know any restaurants that are opening and what they have put in place - bearing in mind some of them only seat a small cover anyway.

Aerlingus to cut 500 jobs due to the continuing restrictions

The airline said the situation in Ireland is “exacerbated” by the 14-day quarantine requirement for arriving passengers and travel advice against all non-essential travel.

The rules in place are for restaurants and pubs acting as restaurants. Pubs as we know them aren't open until July

Yes I know that however I haven't seen any restaurants advertising that they are open yet or what measures they have put in place. All the talk is about the 'pubs acting as restaurants'. My daughter works in a restaurant and they aren't opening on 29th - not worth it they have said.

Yikes....I sure hope this isn't the beginning of the job cut announcements. I got the real sense of doom I haven't felt since 08 when I saw this headline.

Was hoping everything would work out for the economy and we would just pick up where we left off. Fanciful thinking I guess.

I think the wake up call for the population might start now. Seriously lift all restrictions on the hospitality sector on the 29th.

Things are certainly shaping up to get really bad.
Those 500 will probably be losing their jobs over the next few weeks.
And of course the Covid payment will be expiring end of August.
And the banks can't continue to offer everyone a payment break or they'll crash themselves.

These poor 500, and many many more, will end up jobless, on standard social welfare and with the bank knocking on their doors for loan/mortgage payments.

It really is frustrating how few people seem to realize what lies ahead.
No doubt someone will be along soon to tell us that Aer Lingus were struggling anyways. Nothing to do with lockdown.

    Feeling quite negative today.
I mean the 100 capacity limit for pubs from July 20th is nothing when you think about it, especially for larger pubs which I would usually frequent in Dublin.
I just see endless queuing and/or impossible to get a booking.
Think a lot of people will feel the same and there will be an inevitable rise in house parties thus negating the whole point of reduced pub capacity in the first place!!

Doesn't Leo usually only give a Friday speech when there's a big change coming the following Monday, rather than Monday week?

Do I dare dream of a pint this Monday coming :pac::pac:

Have you read about Mothercare, Bewleys, Monsoon, Debenhams, Zara?
    AIB also making concerning noises.
    Now this.
Shops are also mentioning that sales are well down due to limiting how customers can enter / social distancing etc.

These 3 Covid months will end up feeling like a vacation.

Weddings should be banned full stop, awful things they are lol.

Anyway surely a wedding venue is never going to be able to observe SD, a few (many) drinks, on the dance floor, resident's bar LOUD sing song (aerosol Covid spread omg) etc. and so forth. Hilarious.

Unless the guests have to sit down within 1-2 metres and behave themselves all night long. Can't wait to see how it works out, but I can guess, meanwhile back at the ranch, I have to sit down and behave myself in the pub. Uh oh.

Was in Mahon Point yesterday and there was a huge Que outside Zara. Doesn't make much sense to me restricting people in the shop but having the shopping centre itself packed with those people and having to navigate through them to get anywhere.

He's due to speak this evening I heard, to confirm the hairdressers and a few other things.

Just usually the big speech comes on the Friday before the actual movement rather than a week in advance.

It has me hoping for this Monday for the pub :pac:

I wouldn't go to a large indoor event like a wedding while this is circulating, no matter what the limit is. We've seen from other countries how quickly this can spread in an indoor setting, particularly anything involving lots of talking and singing. I wouldn't expect a very big limit on indoor events unless we have a huge surplus of contact-tracers with nothing else to be doing.

If any of it made sense we'd all probably grin & bear it for the next few weeks and see it out but none of it makes any sense at this point.

Man complains about people shopping effecting his shopping.
