Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Literally it's just talking to people, in a structured way. Hard with covid but best practice is just get used to talking to strangers

Just wondering if anybody could help. Trying to prepare for the AC, does anyone have any tips on how to prepare? Certain stuff I should read or concentrate on? Thansk

Be sure to read the applicant guidance carefully, and study the core competencies. Do not over prepare. There are plenty of books out there which will claim they will get you an pass in Police assessment, but every constabulary in the UK is different, PSNI especially. In the assessment center they're looking for who you really are, and they'll see right through an over-prepared candidate. They're not looking for a ready made constable, they're looking for potential for them to make you into one.

From the Initial IST to starting your first day in GV it took Approx 15 months in the 1810 intake .. that was approx top 1/3 of ML bracket

It took me almost exactly 12 months from application to starting...

It all depends on how well you do at AC.

I'm currently on month 18 from application, just waiting on start date. I'm near the bottom of the 1810 ML.

So does that mean they have guaranteed you a place? Or how does it work?

Say for example you are on the merit list, do you find out where on the list you are? Also, will you be given preference over those that have applied in the 2020 recruitment?

Mind if I ask what merit range you are? I'm 850 - 870. Currently waiting on a rescheduled medical date due to Covid-19 and vetting. Can't wait until this is all over haha. Its a bit tough wait so far.

No not guaranteed but it is very very likely that you will get a place. Yes you get an email about a week or 2 after AC results giving you your number on the merit list with the total amount of people on the ML. I'd say it is likely that those appointable in 1810 will get a start call before anyone in 2002 but the 1810 ones could defer and then start after ones from 2002.

I'm 880-900, I was fortunate that my medical was at the start of March so I was appointable just before the whole covid 19 thing kicked off.

Cheers mate. I'm a bit jealous of you haha. My medical was for the 24th March and was cancelled when I was like 10 mins from the venue :(. I hope I'm not waiting much longer for a new date (staying optimistic lol).

Reading on here quite a few hit 35. I didn’t post my score earlier but I also got 35.

Good luck in the next selection

I got 38 this time around! Delighted as I found it tough!

    Well done Sharon.

I have struggled over the years with the IST and went for some private training with a company called No Tomatoes that helped me.

Good luck at the AC centre

New here, good luck to everyone applying this time round. Recently passed my IST with a score of 36 which I was a bit disappointed with as I rushed the 2nd assessment and got 6 wrong with plenty of time to spare. Any how, looking forward but a bit nervous with regards assessment centre as never done it before. Looks like we may be facing some delays now with covid 19, hopefully get some direction come 24th with assessment centre dates. Good luck everyone.

IST score doesn't really matter, pass is a pass. A higher IST score just means that you will have an earlier AC, you'll still have to wait the same amount of time as everyone else for results.

No probs, was under the impression my score would be added to AC score for merit list should I pass next stage lol looks like we may be in for a bit of a wait regardless due to covid 19, lockdown extended another 3 weeks. I'm guessing no dates will be issued for assessment centre until lockdown lifted

I'm using the time to prepare for the AC as well as running for the fitness. Good luck for the next stage everyone!

Hi sharon, I'm doing the same with regards a/c. Just familiarising myself with 6 core competencies and what to expect in role plays etc, going to prepare examples for situational interview also. I'm not stressing to much about it, quite a high % get through, so just going to try and be myself and not come across like a robot as it is probably not what they are looking for.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 119 ✭✭penutzimes

That's all we can do prepare for the ac and pca it would be great if we could have a date to work towards but just have to take what comes

  • Registered Users Posts: 57 ✭✭Yukuza2008

Kind of a bit confused with regards to the AC but is there a situational interview that forms part of the AC?

There is no interview at the AC, just roleplays, written exercises and short IST retest.

No only AC score counts. IST score used for tie breaking only. IST is just to thin the herd

Happy days, hopefully after next friday it wont be too long before assessment centre dates are given out.

I was under the impression that there was an interview element. I rechecked the recruitment guidance and it makes no mention of an interview but I believe most other police services have the interview element.

How do you know there are no interviews?

    Thanks in advance.

I think there are interviews for the GB forces but definitely none here, I passed the AC in the 1810 campaign and there wasn't one (thankfully)

It shouldn't be long now then, covid 19 probably causing the delay. I'm sure your head is done in waiting for your good news letter and start date lol

I know the feeling, I was on waiting list for fire service (full time) for 2 years and didn't even get called up. I was on list with about 180 people but due to them taking in such small numbers, I didn't get it. Was sitting in 10th position before list lapsed, was really disappointed at the time.

    That's crappy!

But you know what they say whats for you won't pass you.

Anyone here heard back regarding further educational evidence? I know they said Friday and they usually take right up to the deadline but I’m just curious

  • Registered Users Posts: 316 ✭✭Si_zx10r

I wouldn't worry too much, probably be tomorrow or friday. The ist was a day earlier than quoted. Suppose you only have to worry if the docs you uploaded weren't official lol luckily I had mine from fire service. More interested to see how assessment centres are going to progress during lockdown

How's everyone preparing for the PCA?

See my documents arrived late due to COVID but I believe they will follow up as long as you say the IST and passed which I did thankfully.

Guys has anybody any tips on what training to be doing for the PCA? Just want to start trying to get into a good fitness/workout routine.

Anyone who has completed psni managed stages will not receive any letter of appointment before june 2020 unless restrictions are lifted. Suppose it's only another few weeks. Imagine assessment centres will be the same for the rest of us

Yea I'm defo not expecting AC any time soon is GV still going atm do you know?

  • Registered Users Posts: 316 ✭✭Si_zx10r

From what I've read it is but reduced numbers. A friend said they were looking at speeding up process as they're in deperate need of more staff, cant see it though with current restrictions but restrictions may be relaxed sooner here following recent update from Arlene foster. There will still be social distancing rules in place but imagine psni will be able to work round this to get people into GV

Finally got the long awaited email which was sent overnight. Next step AC :) Any advice from anyone who've been through it most welcome.

So I’ve been asked to upload one of my college certificates as it was blurry. Does anybody know when accessing the link do I just upload that or do I upload all of my education evidence?

It sounds like they just need the one so I would just upload the one they are asking for

Yeap unfortunately there is no word of the AC yet I would love to just get the ball rolling and get going even if we had a date of some sort it would give us some indication alough obviously we are in very uncertain times atm.

  • Registered Users Posts: 316 ✭✭Si_zx10r

I would imagine it will be some time in may before we hear anything with regards ac, could be wrong but I think until the lockdown is relaxed there isnt much they can do for now.
