Not sure if this has been posted yet, but some potential light at the end of the tunnel..

Nice way of boasting your stock price, thats all he is doing. You see smaller pharma stocks announcing they are working on the CoronaVirus and their price goes up 100% and more, the last time this happened was when companies who had nothing to do with Cryptocurrency started literally changing their the name to include bitcoin in it to increase their share price.

In reality, big pharma are not interested in this and will not be devoting any more resources than they have to, anything they come out with is PR. It is up to public funded institutions to find a vaccine

People need to relax, 6 cases in the Republic of Ireland it's not a pandemic here. If you get it you get it and stay at home for 14 days. Too much scaremongering going on to wash you hands every 5 minutes etc and the media are controlling people's thoughts on it. It's a virus, fair enough a bit worse than the normal flu for a lot of people but Jesus get on with your lives.

You'll find recovered cases here. However those people aren't necessarily out of the woods as there have been several cases of reinfection and at least one that I know of who has died after having recovered and become sick again.

The microbiologist on Ciara Kelly, "the best thing you can do is wash your hands". The best thing you can do is avoid contact, but you can't do that without specific information about where the outbreaks are currently occurring.

She goes on to say "unfortunately the virus is airborne". Admitting that you can't be guaranteed to escape transmission unless you stay away from those who are infected.

    Any link to this?

As far as I was aware these were relapses not re-infections?

South Korea at 6'088 cases. A further 421 on yesterday's figures. 41 deaths total.

It's infuriating the devil may care attitude surrounding those travelling to and from infected areas. That case in Clare is a few miles west of me, and the school in question had a group only recently returned from northern Italy. We're an island, these things should be avoidable. Cease flights coming in from infected areas, or enforce a mandatory quarantine. You take the chance, do the 14 days in isolation. Stop being selfish and give the skiing trips a rest.

But sure what's the risk if you're under 60 with no underlying medical conditions? 0.1% if you even get it? Less?

She just revoked what HSE suggested:' only wear masks if you are sick'.. HSE should advise to the public that wearing masks is essential to stop the virus from spreading. The virus may still find its way into the body. But extra protection is better than none... They should stop misleading people by saying wearing masks does nothing..

Go back in time 2 weeks and tell them...

the horse has bolted already, no need to fuel major disruption and panic at this stage.

Everyone can do their part by wearing masks and gloves and avoiding meeting people or socialising, but considering a lot of people here wont even use an umbrella when it is raining I think we are doomed.
I think the HSE are useless with their approach to this. Masks and gloves are an effective defence compared to not using them, just look at Japan, During Feb 2019 Japan had 129,989 cases of Flu, 2020 with the use of mask Japan only had 44,737 case. That is a drop of over 60%, that is a huge difference.

Personally, I think they will hit 10000 by the middle of next week; they had 9k suspected in that church alone.

They overall figures all the same seem to on the money with the 3.4% CFR (based on recorded figures).

Oddly enough, the serious/critical figure has dropped to just above 16% as it stands. Good news, indicates 84% of cases are mild (so far).

We could have done this but didn’t and it’s too late now. We quarantine animals to keep rabies out, would have been a simple step to take but it’s down to economics.

I can’t for the life of me understand the rationale behind canceling a rugby match and still have tourists and return tourists from known hotspots landing at our airports in droves without any screening whatsoever.

And what about people with underlying illnesses. Should they just "get on with life"?

Should elderly and those most at risk from this virus just forget about the whole thing?

The fact is there has been a massive number of deaths around the world and it's not getting better.

I suggest you start taking this more serious.

Here's one of many articles from the end of Feb which suggests that.

This, more recent one is less optimistic. So little is known about this virus currently. The only thing for sure, based on the ever-widening net of people affected, is that those advising mild cautious measures are not doing enough, given the huge loss of life even at this early stage.
The virus also could be "biphasic", meaning it lies dormant before creating new symptoms.

John Campbell had a great video about that this morning.

Pretty naive thinking, like expect people would care about each other. The only way is to enforce the State power like China did, but this would be non-democratic and we all die rather than go this path...

We can't pick or choose whether we are part of a pandemic or not.

How many cases are we looking at here at EOM. I would guess close to a thousand. UK numbers are just validating the trend so far so eagerly await them today.

Wearing a mask when not sick very likely is ineffective. I'm willing to listen to the world experts on this sort of thing before members of the general public. And considering countries are reporting mask shortages, it might actually be actively unhelpful. The virus can get into the body via areas not covered by anything other than a full face mask, and washing your hands regularly is much better at preventing both the spread of, and your own, infection. Plus the outside of the mask can become contaminated so unless you're careful when removing it, that can lead to your infection anyway.

Leaving the masks for people who are coughing/sneezing (either because of COVID-19 or generic flu - we're at the tail end of flu season after all), or people who are healthcare workers, is much more effective at preventing the spread of diseases than if those masks are in the hands of uninfected people who may not use or dispose of them correctly.

There hasn't been a massive number of deaths around the world. There has been 3,308 deaths. For context, ~150,000 people die every single day.

150,000 people die from a plethora of causes.

If we let this spread unchecked across the globe - we could have thousands more dying every single day.
