    Yeah, I understand that.

But my question is, what does one do differently?

One uses one's own judgement.. one weighs up the whole advice given and the knowledge of where cases are arising and acts accordingly.

It's not much to expect our government to give us clear and accurate information as to where cases are arising and implications arising. For example I see earlier up this thread a suggestion that the recent case in Clare involves a GP/ health professional who has been dealing with the public. If correct, this is potentially very serious. Is it correct? Is it not? Clarity, full and truthful information delivered in a timely manner is required.

That's it for me in a nutshell too. Hope it'll be fine. Be glad to be labeled a loon. Unfortunately there is no reason to get different results in Ireland.

Best of luck to everyone and their loved ones. If this goes for the worst expect people to remember the decisions made and also the inaction. If the dead end up in very large numbers then don't be surprised if people get medieval in their retribution.

This type of OTT reaction does nobody any favours. The people in DOH and HSE are working night and day to mitigate the worst effects. If they had time to read this nonsense (which I'm sure they don't), what do you think this would do to their morale. Our actions are broadly in line with other countries and will be escalated if and when necessary.

That was before they announced there's now 2 strains, the virus has mutated and will likely again.

The Irish Times reporting that one of the Covid patients in the West worked shift at a hospital emergency department.

The report also says "It is believed the group had returned from Italy for a substantial number of days before they experienced symptoms and required testing."

Surely now the DoH needs to tell anybody returning from North Italy to self isolate for 2 weeks. The consequences of not doing this are, already, 3 schools closed and sick patients exposed to a confirmed case.

Before now I was concerned. Now I am angry.

Many members of the public have pointed out that they would simply like to be reliably informed where cases are arising. Not out of prurient curiosity but that they judge their own possible exposure or otherwise to the virus.

If Met Eireann issue a Red warning for a storm hitting the west coast of Ireland, they don't just tell the people in say Glencolumbcille and keep it quiet from the rest of the population. It may or may not affect other parts but forewarned is forearmed.

People travel all over the country on a regular basis, so the storm analogy doesn't really work.
I live in Donegal, but Idon't assume cases in Dublin or Mayo or wherever won't affect me. The precautions I take will still be the same.

To me, that's called fire-fighting. They don't say "prevention is better than cure" for nothing.

You can't beat boards for a bit of complete over exaggeration. It will pass like every other doom day scenario we have had in the last 20 years.

    But will YOU survive?

I know my elderly mother/relatives are at risk and hence want as much information as possible.

Or do what Irish people seem to often do in public facilities - just leave the taps running :(

Or just don't wash their hands at all - incredible the amount of people i see doing this in public venues.

    I'll ask a 3rd time.

Define act accordingly, how would one act differently from the advice all ready offered?

They are trace contacting at the moment.

Should the professionals do that or Twitter?

This is exactly the algorithm your GP will follow if you contact them about Coronavirus
    https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/algorithms/COVID-19%20Risk%20Assessment%20Primary%20Care%20v5.4.pdf

Each GP in the county has been sent this sheet along with a padded envelope containing 4 masks, 4 sets of gloves and 4 gowns. It's all under control.

So you would happy not to have any accurate information about an imminent storm, to be kept in the dark .. because whoever was on duty in Met Eireann figured that it's of no relevance to you? Couldn't see that washing with the public at large - 'Paddy likes to know'.

They certainly don't need to use Twitter - a simple public announcement and press release would suffice. There are others better able to spread the message.

More likely to be a CEO with a large block of shares that have just vested looking to pump the price so he can offload them at a few tens of millions more.

Like 'new discovery could herald cancer cure' announcements, I would take any and all with a pinch of salt until they come out a trial phase demonstrating efficacy and safety.

    Indulge me here

Why aren't the media reporting RECOVERED figures as much as CASES/DEATHS?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,798 ✭✭✭✭DrumSteve

TBH people are looking a lot at vaccines; they really need to get an effective treatment out there before anything else.

Students in a Kilkenny school have had low risk contact so don’t need testing

    https://beat102103.com/news/students-in-a-kilkenny-school-had-low-risk-contact-with-a-coronavirus-case/

“Students of our school have been identified as having had a LOW RISK contact with a case of Covid 19 during their travels from Italy. All have been deemed as casual contact and does not meet the threshold for testing. Advise received from the HSE is All students and staff linked with this trip should be safe to return to school as normal. Any concerns please contact the school office or HSE

Because, if it bleeds, it leads.

Sure the herald had it's front cover this morning that COVID had claimed 4 more victims (they were only diagnosed and will more than likely be ok).

Absolutely zero evidence of panic buying in the shops or excessive stockpiling of food. Credit where credit is due.

You'll find recovered cases here. However those people aren't necessarily out of the woods as there have been several cases of reinfection and at least one that I know of who has died after having recovered and become sick again.

The microbiologist on Ciara Kelly, "the best thing you can do is wash your hands". The best thing you can do is avoid contact, but you can't do that without specific information about where the outbreaks are currently occurring.

She goes on to say "unfortunately the virus is airborne". Admitting that you can't be guaranteed to escape transmission unless you stay away from those who are infected.
