I don't think even Paddy Power is sick enough to offer odds on that tbh

What floats do you think we will see in St Patrick's Day parades outside Dublin if they are allowed to go ahead?

Whatever are you trying to say? Sure everyone knows it's a school in Glasnevin now.. And they should know, citizens do have a right to information that may affect the health of themselves, their relatives or neighbours. Peoples privacy is a secondary matter.

Is it - if there a carrier who doesn't come forward because they don't trust their privacy will be protected. How does that protect anyone?

Was in Dunnes and Aldi yesterday. Both stores were quieter than usual for a Sunday afternoon in my view. And the only thing that I looked for that wasn't there was hand sanitizer. No empty shelves, no lack of choice. From reading this thread I was expecting carnage in both places. Far from it

ah most places are carrying on like normal, a few on here would have ya expecting to walk out into an apocalyptic Ireland if they were to be believed

Its funny / disturbing how rational intelligent peoples' priorities are influenced by social media and a ravenous 24/7 news media ....

29 people have died on irish roads since the start of the year... where is the panic about road fatalities ? Maybe road safety isnt sexy enough for social media or perhaps because its reliant upon individual responsibility it doesnt count when compared to an exotic virus which is being hyped up into a modern day boogy man.

Its people who are putting the PANic into this pandemic, not the virus itself.

In 2020 more people in Ireland will die of the traditional flu, smoking related cancers, obesity, cardiovascular problems than will die of the coronavirus with a mortality rate of 3% .. Perspective and some logical rationale are needed rather than feeding the panicking social media beast.

If 10% of the population got the virus with a mortality rate of 3% (it's quite a bit less than that) then approximately 14400 people would die.

That would make it the biggest killer in the country

You need to put on a kettle, go do some sums using the WHO figures, and then come back and tell us it's all grand

Only one float, a giant bottle of hand sanitizer fannying its way down O'Connell Street, jizzing its load onto an adoring crowd.

Absolutely. But we expect this from our communities. Gossips and wind-up merchants, and bullsh1tters and panicky idiots.

I don't think it's reasonable or fair to describe anyone who might spread the word about a coronavirus outbreak as a gossip, a wind-up merchant, a bullsh1tter, or a panicky idiot. Such a person can be motivated by genuine and legitimate concern.
We don't expect this from our Doctors. If the health service were to break from long-standing tradition and legal obligations to protect our privacy "because coronavirus", then the damage that would do to the public trust would last long past coronavirus.

Well, assume a hair stylist returns from her holidays in Italy and goes back to work. A few days later, she goes to her GP and is found to be infected. During the intervening days, she has been in close physical proximity to a couple of dozen people while cutting/styling their hair. Should the HSE not inform the salon so that it can inform those clients? Everyone should just keep mum in the interest of "long-standing tradition" and "legal obligations"?

One of the HSE letters sent to the parents of the students at the school has been posted on Twitter and the school is named in it.

Of course it is well known and reported to be Scoil Chaitríona at this stage: https://www.thesun.ie/news/5155446/coronavirus-dublin-school-scoil-chaitriona-shut-down-for-two-weeks/

If my neighbour down the road has this Coronavirus, they I Sean Citizen want to know about it. It's as simple as that. This is Ireland not some totalitarian state that decides what it's citizens should and shouldn't know. If I had it or someone in this household, yes I would want the people to be aware of it.

Has anyone compared the mortality of coronavirus to bog-snorkelling or wrestling an alligator yet?

I'd like to do a proof of concept experiment tommorow morning, planning on wrestling an alligator in oncoming traffic on the Naas Road with a Trump 2020 temporary tattoo on my back.

Yeah, just like the Spanish flu.
    I have €0.20 on this sure-thing bet.

ps. Don't google spanish flu wave 2, and look at the 1yr epicurve, have a nice cup of tea instead.

That is not the point. Of course it will be noticed. The HSE acknowledged that the identity of the school may be disclosed elsewhere.
The point they are trying to make (presumably) is that they will not disclose potentially identifying information if a someone who may be infected contacts them. It is the mesage to the a potential carrier who may be reluctant to come forward (for whatever reason).

I would agree with you if it was potentially identifying information.
The name of the school is not.
Anymore than if Indeed did have a case and the company were named.

The experts are saying the worst case scenario is now likely, meaning that coronavirus becomes endemic, meaning that it never leaves the human population. Attacking is in cycles like the flu

Hmmm they could end up dead because they have it. Probability is they won’t die but I think I’d rather be outed than dead.

I received a wassup yesterday. Seemingly it cannot survive above 26. The Italians are sighting this for complacency. Average temps will be at 28 by mid April.

*Wuhan virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed at a temperature of 26-27 degrees*

Seemingly this is why it is not Spreading in Thailand ( 43 cases ), Cambodia ( remarkably difficult to source data, and Southern Laos( no cases reported)

    https://laotiantimes.com/2020/02/04/why-laos-has-not-reported-any-coronavirus-cases/

I am not pretending to be an expert, but it is making sense about the temperature. I would love to know what is happening in Cambodia.

It was 41.8% on the 02/02.

It'll go lower over the next month as closed cases from Italy come in.

Turkey has ended the agreement with the EU and is letting migrants go onto Greece.

Would be a nightmare scenario for large groups of people crossing multiple borders to get sick.

Just reading some comments on CNN facebook page. Many US employees have no sick days and some may get fired if they take any days off work. One woman said her husband works for an International Company and that he has to give 2 weeks notice if he needs sick leave...lol.

The Sh!t is going to hit the fan there.
