What are people covering for Equity?

I've been covering everything so far but I'm thinking about cutting Purpose/Charitable Trusts.

My thinking is that if I am covering the entire course I can answer all 8 Q's, obviously I don't need that. Charitable Trusts is likely to come up but only 1 Q so I'm still good for probably 7 Q's. Therefore I can cut out one of the biggest topics with no issue, right?

It's taking me ages to cover everything so cutting out 1 big topic would help quite a bit.

I could cut injunctions instead but I kind of like that topic, charitable trusts annoys me for some reason.

Of all things to cut out, do not cut out Charities - it's what the examiner specialises in in her day-today career, she always asks it. While there's a decent amount of material in it between the nominal topic and the cypres doctrine, it is pretty easy to follow. If I were you the ones I would look out are any of the less likely trusts one that came up last sitting, for example quistclose.

I know it's a guaranteed question but I'm looking at a grid of the last 14 sittings here and it has only ever once up once per paper, occasionally it will be a part of the note question as well. That still leaves me with 7 other questions if I'm covering everything else. So I'm cutting out one of the largest topics and I am still guaranteed 7, maybe 6 questions.

I do take your point though, it's nice having a guaranteed question in the bank.

Maybe I should look elsewhere to cut...

i think with any of the exams, one topic can be cut if your bases are well covered elsewhere so don't stress. we all have topics that suit us better than others.

Does anyone have sample answers or even some advice for EQUITY?

I’m struggling so much to make any sense of it at all! I always hated it in college and dreaded studying it now so I’m quite desperate for anything that could help!

The examiner's reports for Criminal are really detailed - do we really have to list the requirements for the offences in the level of detail they do? I presume not but thought it better to ask than get a nasty surprise whenever results come out

I'm studying it now myself and I'm reasonably sure he is just giving that level of detail as a guidance so people understand the correct approwch. I can't imagine he would expect anyone to reem off such long quotes from judges!

Sorry to double post but someone answered my q on topics in company law a while back so I will repost

I think covering the whole course is pointless as the topics are usually not mixed.

What are we focusing on in particular for equity?

Doesn't seem like theres too much that could be left out?

For criminal, timewise I can only really afford to add one of either Classifications/Characteristics or Bail/Presumption of Innocence etc.

Am I right in saying covering 1 out of these 2, along with all the other topics, should see me sorted for 7 of the 8 questions? I haven’t got a grid

I can send you a grid if you like but it is only updated to March 2018 so it's not ideal.

From what I can remember if you cover Bail/Arrest/Detention you are guaranteed a question.

If you have everything else covered you are definitely sound.

If you have Sexual Offences/Homicide/Non Fatal/Property and Defences you are pretty much sorted.

I'm covering everything except Purpose Trusts. I know it's a guaranteed question but I figure if I cover everything else I'm all good.

BAIL would be the most imp
Classifications has been on the last 2 papers
Bail wasn't up last paper from memory

Feck... any ideas of where to park nearby or what the best solution would be? I don’t really know the area at all

  • Registered Users Posts: 193 ✭✭TCPIP

Depends where you're coming from. If you can get a train I'd do that and just get a taxi up to the 'stadium' which is effectively a school gym btw.

"How are the Irish consumers protected from unfair contract terms and exclusion clauses?"

Would anyone have a sample answer for this question please? Thank you :)
