Aye. Model 3 can take 666A

But even at just 190kW, it would prove the charger is a 350kW (liquid cooled cable) Ionity CCS2 charger

    So is it 350kW?

They should be capable of 350kW, but it's hard to be definitive. Ionity have this great habit of installing infrastructure capable of supporting the next gen of cars instead of only the ones sold to date. The Ionity app advertises them as 'up to 350kW'

Interesting, I've checked different Ionity locations on the Bosch app.
    Ionity Belgium near Ghent.

    6x chargers - 4x 135kW, 1x 50kW, 1x43kW.

Checked another one in France, near Lyon, and it shows 4x 135kW.

Looks like the Bosch app is hard-coded to 135kW! Likely explanation...

That's due to the french regulations. Each charger must have at least 1 chademo. So Ionity put 1 triple header next to the proper HPC ones.

They have actually also done this at the new Circle K M6 Services near Athlone. 4x Ionity and then at the other end of the carpark 2 50kW and one CHAdeMO charge point.

But it's not an Ionity unit, the chademo + CCS there.

That's Circle K installing them on their own.

Correct. They are Circle K branded and not Ionity. Nor do they get listed in the Bosch App or Ionity App.

The only reference I found so far is on plugshare.com

Oh .. and plugshare has the Ionity chargers at that location down as 350kW.

It looks as if the esb have started adding easygo charge points to their app. Now at lidl Drogheda they show a triple head unmonitored fast charger. There was talk about interoperability of charge point cards with easygo possibly in a years time, but good to see them start to add unmonitored placeholders for some lidl chargers.

    Might help with the debate/bet

On the Chademo v CCS issue
    Currently there are

    Chademo
    Nissan EVs registered here (leaf/ENV) - 3,239
    The triplets (Mitsubishi I-MIEV/Peugeot Ion/Citroën C-Zero) - 18
Total = 3,257 (could not find any 1st gen soul EVs oddly )

    CCS
    Hyundai Kona - 1,084
    Hyundai Ioniq - 460
    E-Golf - 338
    BMW i3 - 246
    Kia Niro - 72
    Kia e-Soul - 62
    Audi e-tron - 44
    Jaguar I-Pace - 42
    Mercedes-Benz EQC - 4
    Total = 2,352

    Tesla
    Model S - 184
    Model 3 - 168 CCS
    Model X - 81
    Total = 433

    Type2 only
    Zoe 465

Could not find any Mercedes-Benz B class or Smart EV numbers

Left out the Twizzy as it's only 3pin :p

Thats a total of 6,507 with Chademo representing just over 50% and CCS just over 36%
Yes Chademo is in decline but with the Leaf being so popular it will be a long time before it's gone as there's no indication it would switch to CCS

I don't think i left any BEV's out and my sums are right but open to correction.

My e-Up, not that one car is going to make a huge difference

By my calculation, it's 2,521 CCS / 6,508 Total for 38.7%. Tesla Model 3s should be included as CCS natives.
Where are the numbers sourced from, SIMI or Motor Tax?

There's only one as far as I'm aware, it appears on beebbeep as a used import in 2017 when you filter for fuel type electric.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 8,264 Mod ✭✭✭✭liamog

Ok, I think more work is required, beepbeep has 511 Ioniqs, 461 new registrations, plus 50 used imports. Leaf is 4,715

Huh, I was totally under the mistaken impression that it was a BEV! The more you know

Nah. It would have been great if it was. But like the Prius, it only has a tiny battery pack. I guess they wanted to save weight.

Al least it was a plug-in from day one.

So i rang e-cars on the way into work. They were at a loss at to what's happened, but according to their records, my card was used to charge for 1 hour at CircleK on the Clonshaugh Road, from 5.59am to 6.59am?? They have sent it on to their IT dept. to investigate, and have suspended my account in the meantime (to prevent any further false charges), until they get to the bottom of what's happened. We verified the card number on my account matches the card in my wallet too. Very, very, odd!

Thought it was about time I posted an update on this, such as it is:

Simply put, they still don’t know what happened. One theory is someone else who signed up for the service put in my card details in error, and since that card number has now been suspended (along with my account), that user (after finding their card no longer worked) may have since been issued a new card (or corrected their details), and the problem wouldn’t happen again. That was the gist of what they told me anyway, and it didn’t make 100% sense to me. Also, there’s no guarantee the other user did any of the above, and the same issue wouldn’t happen again at some point down the line.

They are going to issue the refund, but wanted some proof from my end that I hadn’t actually used the charger their system says I used. So I sent on some pics from my chargers log to prove my car was charging on my driveway.

Anyway, the solution now is they are going to issue me a new card, which is fine by me. (However, they had the cheek to say I’d be charged a tenner for the replacement card, which I politely told them I disagreed with strongly and they said they would pass my thoughts along to the card issuing team).

Finally, it’s worth mentioning, In fairness to the guys in customer support, they’ve been honest and have been trying to get the relevant dept to get it sorted, just seems to be taking an age due to the overall oddness of what’s occurred

It’s amazing that they still wanted to charge the 10e card replacement fee after all that!

The network is transformed with the introduction of charging.
We're all the early adopters free loading spongers? :)

First time I charged since fees. Nice to see the session in app, very helpful. Tons of free CCS chargers around the place now. New app way better.

Only problem we have is phev cars plugged and left for long periods VW Passat plugged for over 7 hours and Kia for the same. trouble is if you have a leaf and range is low your stuck in kinsale.

We are waiting to get home charger fitted

On the slow charge points (or as some call them "fast" and the DC chargers are "Rapid")?
There are plans to bring in fees for them this year I believe. Expect some news on this in the next 2-4 years.

Not sure if the freeloading on slow chargers is to save the €1 on electricity, or to save several euro on parking fees, since parking while charging is free in Cork. It's a pain for those who do need it, like yourself waiting for a home charger, or those requiring a destination charger. A trip outside the DC network just has that air of doubt around it, that you may arrive to find all chargers are in use. I almost had this happen to me in Galway last month. Arrived at 11am on a Saturday and just got the last AC charger in Galway city (out of the 6 available).

Paying for SCP's brings into question those spots where you currently have to pay to park. Should it be
    Pay for parking and charging
Free parking (if charging) but pay for charge
Pay a higher amount for these spots via Ecars

Likely option 1. Both local government and Ecars are supplying separate services, an both will want a payout. Local government decided the parking costs to technically option 1 and 2 could exist just in different councils

Option 1, the only Irish way

At the moment a sizeable number of Bev / phev owners seem to think that parking is free while charging in Dublin while some think that parking is free simply by parking at a scp space. However the clampers appear to be increasingly targeting these spaces and I regularly see charging ev's clamped around Dublin

I had to charge at the local Carlow fast charger today and went into Supermacs to have some Grub, Got notification from the ESB app about a charger error so I looked out the window and a Leaf driver had started charging so I went out and knocked on his window and said " you disconnected my charge mate" he said "no I didn't" and I said yes, you did when you started your charge it stops the other car charging"

He was convinced, or so he said, that 2 cars can charge at the same time and I said yes only 1 AC and one on DC, so that means when a Renault Zoe is charging so can a Leaf or i3. I told him it's 1 DC charger with 2 plugs and 1 AC charger/charge point, it's not 2 DC chargers so only 1 car can use DC at the same time.

So I said " well, since I was already charging when you got here, you'll have to stop your charge." He did and I continued to 75% and left.

But whether he was a chancer or not it's a disgrace that one driver can knock off the other charge, simply by plugging in and swiping. Pure Joke.
