If I had grown up in another county, I doubt it would have stopped my father from bringing me to Mayo matches. Anyway, I'm not sure why exactly this is being debated.

Has anyone called the ISPCC over those parents? Should be named and shamed. Disgraceful carry on, reading about it has turned me right off my lobster dinner.

You people should start a thread in AH, or here; much of a muchness lately.

Sure why should what county you live in, or your parents are from, have anything to do with what county you cheer on in sport?
Let's look forward to a world where Carlow people can support Dublin, and Dublin people can support Waterford. There are no Dublin people, there are just people. Kumbaya.

In this crazy world where referring to people's county of allegiance is seen as militant and parochial I'm not familiar with the 'rules'. And when I say rules, what I mean are arbitrary constructs worthy of no serious respect or consideration or even further observation.

But you arent referring to peoples county of allegiance at all. There is no county called non-dubs. What you are in fact doing is referring to your own singular county, and then identifying everyone else from everywhere else in terms of whether they are from that county or not. Why not just refer to people as where they are from as opposed to where they are not from? It displays very much us v the rest mentality from the outset. But there is no rest and maybe dubs would do well to break from that way of thinking. There is no basis of truth in the 31v1 mentality. The fact that the funding was ok'd by everyone else in the first place shows that. Would you have ok'd that money for the 'non-dubs'? It doesnt look like it

I find the Pale is often used by people from counties that didn't let off a fart in their corduroys in 16 and after, so have this guilt thing about Dublin.

I think True Gael is from the kingdom, which in fairness redeemed itself after the betrayal of Roger Casement.

are you real? as in are these responses automated. I don't read any of your stuff, I just see mayoaremagic come up all the time and glance and see the same gist of repetitive bitter muck. Are you not exhausted with it all, seems like such a waste of time an energy, achieves nothing and must wind you up as tight as a spring. good luck to you.

Mayo were magic by the way, they are fairly sh*te now though.

What is wrong with just saying non-dub? If you are attempting to refer to people who are not from dublin, then logically you would think it is perfectly apt. Where is the requirment for a demeaning phrase there?
That is like someone saying, what else can I call dubs, but jackeens? Or what else can I call black people but the n word?

Better yet, stop thinking of people as dubs and non dubs. Why are you lumping everyone else into one category? It points to a real parochial, and kinda militant outlook, that I dont really understand. I mean you live 30 odd miles from these people, you cant be as different as you seem to believe you are.

From someone who defended the use of “the Pale” in respect of Dublin, this is hypocritical hysterical nonsense of the highest order.

Is the GAA money getting you lobster dinners now? Out in Dublin 15, it might just stretch to a breakfast roll. Can someone not even up the funding?

In that scenario it is bad form. If they are meath born or kildare born etc, then that should be the county they aspire to play for. If the plethora of 'culchie' parents of the current dublin squad had decided to do the same, dublin would be short a hell of a lot of players.

This is as sad as it gets. A couple of hundred pages ago, or was it two threads ago, he was blaming Aslan for ensuring Dublin’s success. Now it is all Bernard Brogan’s ma’s fault.

They'd be better off playing with their friends on their club team than being brought up to games not involving their own county

Anything to say about this mayoaremagic? €415k in one year from a single investor. €60k training camps in New York, any thoughts?

Interesting to read just how inept and dysfunctional the mayo county board, this type of stuff generally filters down to players on the field as we all know.

Wow the bitterness is real in that post. Sure I see kids dropped off every week and no offer of even putting the nets up. That’s life. Some volunteer some don’t, in every county.

Mayo can't even get their financial doping right

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/millionaire-withholds-250000-from-mayo-county-board-38536084.html
And yet, dublin being serial underachievers was a fact of life. But there was an intervention which changed the game entirely.
So obviously, the gaa dont share you opinion, and considering you never complained about that, you must have only developed this view very, very recently.
    Self-serving indeed...

That is what undermines this stance that many dubs om this thread push, where they talk about disparities and things not being fair being normal in sport. When it was dublin in that situation, this famed natural order was deliberately changed. Which in turn, totally undermines any railing against another change to it.

You cant have it every way. If guys want natural order then dublin need to pay back all monies taken and move forward from there. You cant pick and choose what parts of the natural order you want. That isnt natural order, it is just your ideal situation.

Mayo GAA fundraised 1.761 million in two years. Dublin raised 161k in 3 years. All according to their own accounts.

In the same two year period Dublin paid 2 million in administration expenses (half are salaries). Mayo paid 130k for the same expenses for the same two years.

I know which one i think is more likely to be inept and dysfunctional. Especially given wages in the Dublin GAA is out of control.

Fake news. We all know everyone except Dublin raises all their money through lotto tickets and buckets outside churches and helping little old ladies across the road.

And there we have in a nutshell the problem with some counties and it is the county boards and the lack of planning. County boards who think all they need to do is.put out the hand and the GAA will give them money to p1ss up against the wall.

He will just blame big bad Satan Dublin on it. I can see it now how he will play the poor mouth to say that Mayo are not like Dublin who can get business people to create business and development plans.

Mayo spends over €1m annually on preparing county teams alone so the €250,000 is a significant sum in this context, though it hasn't been included in the county’s annual budget for this year or next.

The county has been in financial trouble in the past, with Croke Park bailing them out on €5m of debt run up redeveloping Elverys MacHale Park, a project itself that was mired in planning difficulties and led to long-running disputes with local residents in Castlebar.

Mayo are hoping to develop a new centre of excellence in the county, a project the Mayo GAA International Supporters Foundation say they were set to support, though that may now be in doubt.

Mayo GAA already has an official fundraising body, Cáirde Maigheo, which was set up several years ago amid concerns over the governance of unofficial fundraising groups.

sounds like everything is in tip top shape from an administration point in Mayo alright.

Again, people are getting distracted from the main point of the thread.

Dublin have been overfunded relative to every other county. This includes both money from the GAA and their sponsors. No other county even comes close to their financial might.

Combine this with other advantages e.g a massive population and playing pool in a sport where transfers are extremely difficult, home pitch advantages and others and you have the perfect storm for endless Dublin dominance, which is what we're currently seeing.

That's all the last few hundred pages boils down to, ultimately.

Dublin should be split to help manage this.

Mayo, Galway, and Cork all have serious issues with their county boards IMO.

Dublin sorted theirs out years ago and it has played a major part in the county's success over last decade.

Exactly, what is happening of the pitch is as important as what is happening on the pitch. The playing side need to have confidence in the administration side but all too often the playing side has been let down by the administration side. When both are working together the better results do come.

Competent administration is important in sporting success but much bigger factors in this case are the money, population and home advantage.

Other counties have competent administrators. Other counties have dedicated volunteers. Other counties have committed players who get up early to train and go above and beyond. These are necessary factors, but they're not sufficient.

What other counties don't have is millions and millions of euro from the GAA and other sources, a gigantic population and home advantage for all consequential games.
