In the study above the steroids + no exercise group got stronger.
Almost as much as the exercise group

What I was saying was that the article goes on to say there is obviously a relationship between size and strength but it's not 1:1 and gave some studies to support that. It wasn't my observation.

Yeah, I got that by the end. Was halfway through when I replied. Hence my edit above.

The more interesting study was the coaches who told their guys they were being given steroids. Holy placebo gains batman

Yeah that one is a bit mental but sorta ties in with some of the stuff on placebo effect that I remember reading in 'Bad Science'. Though the difference between those who were left thinking they were on steroids and those who were told they were on a placebo is mental.

Greg Nuckols was wearing a hat when he wrote the article while sitting in a squat rack.

This guy came over and plonked his bag beside mine. Now the seating is in sections. About two people can get changed per section. His bag takes up about 65% of the bench/section while I'm there before him, clearly getting changed. He's uncomfortably in my personal space. I think he expected me to move on. He was way bigger than me and slightly older. He continues to rummage through his bag, then I noticed he looks at my bag and that I'm not moving and as good as rolls his eyes and decides to move. The bench to which he moved to was closer to his own locker. I mean, WTF?!?

In all fairness, most people are sound, helpful and polite but you do get the odd plonker.

What pisses me off most is c.unts that don't flush the toilet, will piss on seats etc.

Other than that, my interactions with people in the gym have been grand.

What gym was this ( or what general area is the gym in if you comfortable saying which gym) because this happens in my place the whole time and the set up is v familiar.

Oh really? Yeah it's crazy. Not like there wasn't any space around. Thankfully, it was only one culprit..

    I'll PM you the location.

    @El_Bee: Seriously? :(

People saying steroids don't affect the penis but aren't they known to cause erection problems?

People are saying it doesn't shrink the penis. Not that it doesn't affect it.

    Put on more weights.

    There are no more weights

    What’s the problem?
Put all the barbells on the bench.
    Lift the bench.
    4x12.
    5th set to failure.
Massive roar as you fail on the 10th.
Head butt the wall in celebration.
    Gainz bro.

I'm interested in what he's actually doing. That's a serious amount of equipment to hog.

The most I ever use at once is 3 sets of dumbbells when doing drop set bicep curls/lateral raise etc.

I hate when people are jogging two machines/cables then get annoyed when you start using one. Like how is anyone meant to know you're using it if you're off at another machine and have no towel or water bottle on the seat?

Is that sweat on the bench? :(

That dude Def does bicep curls in front of the rack for maximum blockage.

Ah here. When my mate and I used to train together we’d be doing supersets sometimes, so you might have 4 sets of different dumbbells, with maybe a 5th if one of us might fail on one. Even at that I’d be mortified and quick to be done. That’s taking the absolute piss though and I’d have no issue taking one set on him if needed (the fact that someone was able to snap a pic means he just left them there too while filling up the water bottle). That pic actually stresses me out like.

Why would you need multiple dumbells for supersets?

Do you mean drop sets? I think they’re pretty annoying tbh. Cable would be a better option if you need them.

tbf it looks like he is trying to stop the bench from floating.

You can superset using two different weights, depending on the exercises your combining.

2 different weights is reasonable imo.
4 sets of dumbells, a few barbells and a bench is not.

In leggo's case, I'd imagine possibly they each needed 2 sets of dumbbells, one per exercise, so 4 total.

No excuse for the picture though.

leaving bags around the gym is a bit ignant as well

I might be asking too much from my fellow gym-goers, but if I'm using a single dumbbell for any exercise, I always make the effort to put it back on the rack beside another dumbbell of the same weight so that there's a pair side-by-side.

It annoys me when there's random, unpaired dumbbells dotted around the rack and I have to look for the one I want twice! Especially as the writing on the side is mostly rubbed off/faded on all of them so you can't just skim your eyes over the rack easily.

I once done a set with a 7kg DB and a 6kg DB for that reason. I was surprised I didn't notice right away. The 7kg was in my strong hand but as you said, it was annoying.

and asking for a claim, I'd take a well choreographed dive over a bag if my gym was stupid enough to let people leave them on the gym floor

Yeah this, it’d be me and my mate so two each. And we’d be doing different exercises so need different weights for each. Often we’d be on the same so grand, but there’d be times when we’d be on different for everything and I’d be getting anxiety wanting to be done as quick as possible, even though we trained at around 2-3pm in a gym that’d be well stocked so probably inconveniencing nobody. But there’s always the fear of having a photo of your stuff taken and ending up on this thread!
