Did he not get injured against Fiji in the last 7s tournament?

Wins for both men and women in their opening Olympic Qualifiers.

The Irish women defeated Romania 48-0.

The Irish men defeated Ukraine 41-0.

Spain at 5.30 should be a good one. If we win that we should avoid France until the final.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

All easy and no surprises yet. Will get interesting when core teams start playing each other. Ireland vs Spain final pool match for both men and women. Both teams playing well enough and competitive enough to win it. But then France are the form side and England and Spain are thorny obstacles

Women beat Czech Republic 50-0 while the men defeated Russia 52-14 in their second games.

Both are through to the quarter-finals tomorrow.

Spain are playing great rugby. Will need some performance to come back

2nd on points difference is a tough one.

Not a great day really. The women have an all but impossible task from here with England in the quarters, then France if they get through that one.

The men have a better draw and will hopefully make the semis so a good chance of top 3, but disappointing not to take top spot in the group today.

Disappointing result against England, just far too many errors.

Surprise win for Portugal against Spain.

I take it this is good news for us should we lose to France.

How does the tournament next year work should we not win outright today but manage to come third?

Only 1 qualifies directly here. 2nd and 3rd go into the final olympic qualifying tournament next year which is decided by regions.

2nd and 3rd will represent Europe here. South America and North America have already played their tournaments with Argentina and Canada qualifying directly. Jamaica, Mexico, Brazil and Chile will be in the repechage next year and there will be 2 more from Africa, Asia and Oceania so the Repechage will be a 12 team tournament with 1 place available for the Olympics.

Ok, just the one qualification spot up for grabs next summer. Thought there may be more.

    Is this game soon?

    Lost to France 19-12

Heartbreaking stuff but France were the better team on the day.

  • Registered Users Posts: 525 ✭✭✭guapos

Yeah both are trys were dodgy calls from the ref. Thought Conroy should have backed himself in the last minute.

That was there for the taking. Unfortunate.

Some poor mistakes but France are a good side so they were always going to be punished. Still should be able to finish 3rd.

I grow to dislike whoever runs the Irish rugby social media more by the day. They lack any knowledge about rugby or the competitions the teams play in and its infuriating, obviously some "social media expert" with no rugby knowledge.

Convincing win against Portugal to take 3rd place.

    Haha
What exactly is so infuriating about social media posts etc? How is lack of knowledge shown and what more do you want the social media team to do. Justin Dee who used post here often used to manage some of the social media accounts and may still do at times. would you consider him having lack of knowledge.

Shame women wont qualify but at least men beating Portugal still leaves them with shot in world repechage.

They posted that the mens team were out of contention for qualifying for the Olympics, really basic **** to be getting wrong.
If he posted that then yes, yes I would consider him to be lacking knowledge.

Surprised you didn't ask "but what would you do".

The Olympic Qualification repechage isn't until next June.
That's good for Ireland, gives them a whole season of World series comps to improve and grow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,964 ✭✭✭connachta

Kenya and Australia will go through in their regional tournament, so did Argentina and Canada.

So basically 1 spot for 3 in the repechage days in June 2020

    Samoa, France, or Ireland.
The rest won't be at the level (Brasil, H-K, Tonga etc.) at all IMO, but these three above are pretty close...

did they? If they did they must have changed deleted a tweet as only aide out of contention was women which they said. They didn't say men were out of contention.

yeah. Will really help having full season of games against Fijis, New Zealand to prep for that tournament

A new France vs Ireland decider is likely IMO
