Saw on the stats it was 1-40 with 0 wides, is that right?!

No. I listened to a bit on the radio and cork hit a few wides in that time.

pricey alright but hopefully a decent crowd are able to make a weekend of it and go to the football too
7pm Saturday and 2pm Sunday, bout the best turnaround you can get if you have to spend a night in dublin

Wonder is there any chance they might switch the hurling to thurles now that Dublin arnt in it.Be a lot better to have a full semple stadium rather than a half empty croke park.

It would be handier for us for sure but there's no chance. The reason it isn't Thurles is that it's home advantage for Tipp, which would still be the case regardless who won today between Dublin and Laois.

Croke Park wouldn't really be seen as home advantage for Dublin hurlers (had they qualified) the same way as it is for their footballers as they play most of their league matches and Leinster round robin in Parnell Park.

Today was a job well done. You look at the Laois result and things like that an happen. I know it was unlikely for us but we built up a good lead in the first half. All 6 of our starting forwards scored in the first half. Then we were able to give others game time and rest a few for the second half.

Scoring a record points total has to be great for morale and I think we are perfectly placed for next week

Here are the scorers from today

One worry I have about the footballers is the full back line as I can't see scoring being an issue going forward.

Flicking through the net tonight I saw the Cork u16A Camogie team played Antrim in the All Ireland today.
They won 11-28 v 0-05, thought it was a misprint, nope. Doesn't do anyone any good.

Was at the game. 14 points flattered Laois. Cork were superb. Delighted for the players, they get a lot of stick from the media and the Cork public.

Was at the game to and I dont think 14 points flattered Laois. Cork had 5-6 goal chances and took 4. They absolutely destroyed the Laois backline and had very few wides. At the same time though any time the ball got near the Cork backs they were roasted. If laois werent going for goals at the end they could have easily tacked on 5-6 points. Which would have been a fairly big score for Cork to concede. Laois completely messed up 2-3 stone wall goal chances one on one with the keeper.

On the ref side Laois may have had a red card in the first half but in honesty it was a 50/50 decsion. On the other had Cork were lucky in the backs not to pick up a few black cards and got away with a few blantant fouls and what looked like a clear penalty. Maguire had to be taken off before he was sent off.
Even then though I d fancy Cork had to much in the tank for Laois.

Based on how easily Laois broke that backline if things are tightened up defensively I would badly fear a mauling in Croke Park.

To be fair , the very vast majority of teams would fear the same playing Dublin in Croker.

I hope Cork go for it and attack the shít out of Dublin. I want Cork to score more than the majority of other teams do. By doing that, it might stop the inevitable bombing foward of the Dublin half back line allowing our defence the chance to not be overrun. We are expected to lose by a fair bit anyway. Our defence is not the strongest, so we should concentrate on our best weapon, our attack.
I'm tired of seeing Dublin with 80% possession spraying the ball around in front of 14 defenders. Have a cut off them.

Couldn't agree more. In so far as possible try to manufacture one on one with our full forward line. Turn it into a shoot out if we can and don't bother with any blanket defence or anything resembling it. Nothing to lose like.

80% possession ? who was that against ? Yes indeed have a cut at them , should make for a great game .

There does not seem to be too much anger about the lack of a double header here. I know the fixtures were set last week, and it wouldn't have been right for the county board to complain then, for games we had not yet qualified for. And at the time, it could have been argued that Dublin could also have had a double header (before the mighty Laois team ended that), so the fairest thing to do would be to give neither of them a double header.

But in another year, the hurling quarters will be back in Pairc Ui Chaoimh, and may well feature Dublin and Cork (playing someone else) and we could be welcoming the Dubs down for a Super 8 match, and in such circumstances, it should be correct and proper to give the Dubs (as the traveling team) a double header and Cork play over two days.

But in the here and now, why I am so disappointed is because of the circumstances that could have been if it was a double header.

We could well have outnumbered the Dubs this weekend in Croker. And then if, (its an assumption I know, and take nothing for granted here) we beat Kilkenny.... then the Dublin team would be entering a very different Croke Park than what they are use to.

Look, even in that scenario, Dublin would have too much for us, but just like the Kerry game, it could well be a factor to boost this team in a group that's all about second place.

Personally, I am not that affected as an exile, so I will make both games without too much bother. It can still be a great weekend for us, but it could be so much better.

    Should be a double header!

    2 match tickets!
    Travel from West Cork
Accommodation, (hardly going to drive up and down twice)
    Meals
    etc, etc.

    you're talking €400 min.

You can never write the cats off.I do feel that we should have too much pace for them. But as i say you can never write them off.Likewise Kilkenny will know, that we should not be written off easily either. As for the football, well hopefully we'll give it a right go against the Dubs.I think a 6 point defeat wouldn't be the end of the world. The Dubs will probably win.But hopefully we'll make them work for it.

I'm not liking this talk of Cork just being too good v Cats. It's a funny fixture in that the Underdog seems to win this game more then the favourite down the years. Cork only slight favourites but this will be tough.

Just hoping footballers put up a decent show. I wish both teams the very best. Going to both games.

Agree totally - Very nervous about match on Sunday … the team is too in consistent to be confident at all of a win - especially against KK in croke park who will have their dark arts well mastered on Sunday …. its so 50/50 IMO

Still crap tickets on offer. Does any know how many the lower stands hold before the open upper stands. Surly there will be over 40/45 thousand going. I expect cork to bring 20 and the three other around 10 thousand.

not sure if I read it here or elsewhere but the "bring a friend" option for season ticket holders expires today so hopefully any they were holding back for that will be released tomorrow

But when you talk about the Cork supporter, and I think we all know the Cork football supporter will be a different cohort to the Cork hurling supporter. For the guy that bridges both then these things are unfortunate.
    :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

How stupid is it that? They aren't a double header and then he come out with that rubbish.

And of course the Dublin game HAS to be on Saturday night.....

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,064 ✭✭✭zetecescort

Cork 0-12 Clare 0-8 HT. Cork on top but wasting a lot of ball

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,459 ✭✭✭The White Feather

    Cork 0-12 Clare 0-08

Even enough first half. Cork players dwelling too much on the ball and getting caught. They need to play the pass a bit quicker. Don't know how the Clare player stayed on the pitch after kicking out at a Cork player.

Clare players are really harassing well but everytime the ball goes near Turnbull he looks deadly. Tommy O'Connell playing well in the centre too.

A few bad wides and balls running out over the end line. We just need to not be wasteful. Still looking good though
