    For Cork
Rain clearing early tomorrow turning to sleet wet snow for a time. Showers soon packing in with several cms lying by tomorrow night (mainly for hills) Further snow early Wed with treacherous roads before things dry up in afternoon. Roads could be extremely dangerous Wed night.
More on Thursday later but for now am confident of a red alert for midland parts of the country at least

It will be very interesting to see what happens on Thursday, if the band of precipitation falls as snow in southern counties then it will be a significant event as it pushes into the midlands.

5pm TAF for Knock still giving light to moderate snow showers starting from around 4 am until midday tomorrow, then down to a chance of the odd light snow shower from 1 pm.

Belfast Aldergrove has a slight chance of moderate snow showers from 5 am.

    Rain and sleet bar.

Met Éireann's aviation chart for 00Z tonight shows the cold front around 200 NM northwest of Donegal, moving southeastwards at 30 knots. Behind it occasional sleet, snow and hail showers, with isolated heavy snow/thundersnow showers.

EURO4 does seem to be showing some snow for us in Cork City/greater Cork Area, but I am not sure how accurate this model is. Anybody want to chime in? EG Cork Airport TAF is forecasting light rain, snow which is sleet really. I am assuming Euro4 includes sleet as snow. Could also be that Euro4 may not take Thawing into account?

Downgrade? I don't think so. That's what's been suggested all the time.

Yeah noticed that too. She must not be a fan of the warning!

No downgrade, she’s just not hyping the situation too much as there’s still a lot of
uncertainty. Remember folks, this is no beast from the east but there will be places that will get lucky this week. (Midlands & NW especially IMO)

She did say that details for Thursday are uncertain and snow will affect lower levels so to keep an eye on the forecast over the next few days. ;)

Surprised the ECM hasn't been mentioned. Doesn't look too bad for us down south, only saw it now but again not fully sure! Always take these charts with a pinch of salt, they may not include thawing etc.

ECM consistent in maintaining the cold airmas and freezing levels quite low , the low pressure readings helping especially Thurs and Fri I would reckon. Snow depth chart just an idea of wintry / snow precipitation , snow depths Thurs and Fri ?

Met Eireann : Thursday remains very uncertain but current indications suggest it will start cloudy in most areas with a band of rain spreading from the southwest. The rain possibly turning to snow as it pushes northeastwards but there is a lot of uncertainty in relation to this feature at the moment. It will be very cold with temperatures of just 3 to 6 degrees. Frost and ice will develop on Thursday night along with further wintry showers.

Snow showers should be in to the northwest by the morning.

I don't expect much now in Leinster and Munster first thing in the morning except maybe some sleet or wet snow as that cold front clears in to the Irish sea. It's then a question of how active and widespread the snow showers will be for the afternoon and tomorrow night.

The west and north should do well tomorrow.

Its amazing to see the different Weather models giving vastly different outcomes this close to any possible event... most seemingly suggesting a rather non event now.

So rare to have a chart like that down here on the ECM. Usually GFS make believe stuff.

Just sent it to my parents saying one can dream.
My OH works in Tralee, I've told him he could have interesting commutes.

12z EC has increased that southerly trend. At present the regions most at risk are Munster and south Leinster.

The 12z ENS will be interesting.

I’d say take the day off if it turned out like that. Anyway get over tomorrow and Wednesday first and see where we are.

I reckon he will work from home Thursday alright. The county bounds could be bad enough well before that.
Will keep an eye on how things develop.

    4.7C here in Tralee

What the WRF 2Z Hi Res model is showing. We can review how the model fared on Weds.

So we have a cold front passing over the country first followed by troughs giving showers and some longer spells of precipitation throughout the day. Wintry and would think a fair few sleet and snow showers. Breezy also so showers moving well inland. Mention of thunder also with enough CAPE possibly to produce some sporadic lightning, but low chance I would reckon. Windchill in negative figures it would look like.

Yeah noticed that too. She must not be a fan of the warning!

Most of the time the weather forecast after the six news is often more reserved, than the the 9pm forecast.
They are still analysing the data that is still been released and the 9pm forecast has more detailed

Mad the difference between here and Netweather over Thurs/Fri potential. I don't see a huge amount of difference in the forecast airmass between here or the UK, but they are the ones very confident of snow. If anything on the ECM we have better conditions, better uppers, better dew points looking @aperge. More to snow than that but I trust others word on here when they say it looks marginal.

The infamous Steve Murr just called for up to 30cm in the SE of Ireland based on the ECM.

Are we underplaying the potential or are they completely overplaying?

Bit of both net weather always over play things, in general more reserved here

That could be true alright. I suppose this is so marginal different forecasters take different views.

HIRLAM showing it to be wintry, not a bad model in predicting wintry precipitation and snow.

Roads going to be bad overnight / Early Weds into the morning.
