I am a man and this show has nothing for me. Given the lack of competition at this hour, it has to be a pretty poor show to force me across to Ronan Collins saying happy birthday to Auntie Mary in Longford from all of her family in Terminfeckin. But her toxic attitude to men drives me away. Every day she is battering some social justice drum with some other perceived oppression that she wishes to put men right about. There is nothing in this show for men, bar you want to be preached to in a condescending manner.

Ciara Kelly is running the radio show on Newstalk as a battering ram into the public to raise people's awareness of her own profile.

The entire show is merely a vehicle for her to raise her "meeja" profile.... she's using the lowest common denominator of "womens agenda" to do so.

Kelly has obviously cottoned on to the fact that the lefty luvvie female brigade are the most vocal at the moment.

    She's an egotistical opportunist.

    Just ask G Hook.

    Et tu Kelly....

The men are victims thing is creeping in fast!

That's taking the post out of context. There is a noticeable tendency on Ciara Kelly's part to devolve a lot of discussions into "aren't men awful" rants.

The thing is most modern Irish men have been brought up to see women as equals, now we're suddenly being told that we're all inheritly misogynistic when we're not, so of course a lot of us are going to take issue with it.

Also the show is becoming a bit of a soapbox in this regard. Some people didn't mind George Hook's idiosyncratic style (I personally wasn't a massive fan of his) which Ciara as a contributor used to complain about, now she's in charge the agenda is hers alone and her blinkered approach as well as her paucity of experience as a host is not adding up to a fantastic radio show.

Today Ciara Kelly has made everything about her again! Loneliness (yes she's lonely despite being an outgoing chatterbox on national radio) , being a waitress (she's done that and we need to know) , not being a good cook (she's a bad cook) , every single thing Kevin Dundon has spoken about she interrupted with "yes that's me". Its NOT about you Ciara!
Yes its good to be able to relate to subject matter but this show is about the people who ring in and listen in, its not about Ciara Kelly and her life and her achievements.

I've been staying out of this, but I'm just going to make one general point and then go back to staying out of it:

I'm a man, and I disagree with the characterisation of the show as "man hating" or similar. I believe that characterisation may say more about an individual commentator's personal ideology than anything else.
    Rennaws wrote: »
deeply biased and one sided viewpoint as Ciara does demonstrates a clear contempt for men.

... the fact that everyone else notices it too would indicate that it's a definite bias on Ciara's part, not mine

    ...blinded by her rage...

    Disagree.
    Rennaws wrote: »
And men are statistically far more likely to be the victims of a violent assault then women are but of course that doesn't suit Ciara's narrative so she doesn't mention it let alone discuss it on the show..

Yes, but more likely to be violently assaulted by other men.
    Rennaws wrote: »
Her intense dislike for men is so blatant it's almost become a joke.

See the recent comments regarding her remarks on international men's day as an example.

She clearly has issues with men. The issues are all hers yet she holds men responsible.

    Disagree.
    I certainly notice it.

I don't. Except to wonder what trivial mention of men she might make will get this thread riled up. For example, the "international men's day" complaints.

However, I do agree with a fair bit of this. I just don't think her agenda is driven by misandry. It might be by ambition, though.

I think she's more of an Irish female Jeremy Clarkson, inasmuch as she has controversial opinions for money.

Yes, but more likely to be violently assaulted by other men.

    That's irrelevant.

Ciara's point is that women aren't safe walking around at night because men are rapists.

My point is that men are less safe walking around at night then any woman so why not cover that as a topic as well but she doesn't because it's such a one sided show and unless you can provide links to the contrary i'm going to employee your incredibly lazy debating tactic and say..

    Disagree.

I made this point weeks ago.

Men are more likely to be violently attacked, hospitalised, stabbed, have a weapon used on them and much more likely to die from the attack..

Everyone must be careful when out. Not just women.

The pretence that Ciara or anyone on radio is saying that all men are misogynistic is just nonsense as usual. In my opinion it's a tactic to portray men now as victims.

The old views on women are being challenged in the last few years. That's all that's happening.

    What old views?

I can't remember a time in my life when women have been viewed as anything other than equals.

This notion you're talking about is nonsense. Ciara Kelly makes generalisations about men which portray men collectively as entitled misogynistic egomaniacs, when in reality women in Ireland have had no discrimination based on gender in about forty years.

For a long time people were just getting along with life with men and women as equals, then suddenly over the last five or so years with the explosion of these issues in universities etc we're in a situation where men and women are being pulled backwards into gender issues arguments.

Most women still do the housework, still do most of the rearing of children, leave work to deal with a sick child.

    Will I go on?

On what planet are you living on?

Find us a few clips to prove what you're saying.

I can link you to hours and hours of clips to prove what most of us are saying

Prove us wrong.. What has she covered in a positive light in relation to men on the show ?
The old views on women are being challenged in the last few years. That's all that's happening.

I see that roles have changed radically as society has changed to allow it happen but that's because the desire was there for society to change.

But I don't know what old views you're talking about.

I'm 45 and i don't recall women ever being anything but equal..

It's the people talking about "old" views are the ones living in the past imo.

    No they don’t.

And if they do in your mind, do most men earn and work very hard to provide for all this housework and rearing of children?

Your point makes zero sense unless the women in these hypothetical situations are being forced to do the majority of childcare/housework.

They are being forced to do it because their male partners won't do it.

I never knew that stating the obvious...ie..that women still do most of the house work and child rearing would unleash such a reaction from the posters here.

    They are permanently offended.

Tongue in cheek. Who says I'm offended? I'm merely drawing inspiration from your favourite, perma offended radio show host.

Well, are we talking the universal "men" here? I have to be absolutely clear because the us of generalisms are frowned upon (apparently) in this thread.

I can only speak for myself: I'm in my 40s. My wife can't cook, won't cook. In the 20+ years I've known her she's likely cooked 5times and all have been disastrous. I do all the cooking. I also bake. Most dish washing is done in the dishwasher. Anything that requires soaking or by hand is done by me. I empty the dishwasher. I cut the lawns. I do the weeding. I do the groceries. Anything DIY-related (within reason) I do - anything I can't do we hire a professional. I could go on, but I didn't marry her to have someone to do the housework for me. Also, this was how I was brought up. My mother raised the boys in my family to be bale to do these basic things - and they are basic.

The housework gender split in our house is likely 95% Male, 5% Female. So do I think some men do more housework than some women? Yes.

Right, just the thousands of others you have absolutely zero first hand knowledge of.
