So no breakdown of the 30-35k no? Great thanks.

It really isn't that hard to make an educated estimate based on that, surely?

So you're on the dole then.
    Grand.
Enjoy the free house and free stuff I'm paying for. :)

Actually...Any source for the 30-35k figure? Total tax paid on last year's P60 for myself as a non married PAYE individual was 26,608.98 so I'm not too far off it actually. I would like to see your calculation and basis for 30-35k.

Fair play that's a nice bit of tax being paid to help the country. Now to get take all the fraudsters and wasters off social welfare so we all get more take home pay.

    He who asserts must prove.
If you cannot show where the figure comes from then it must be disregarded as bunkum.
I'm not interested in "educated guesses" as I'd tender a notion that there would be somewhat of a discrepancy there too.

Wanna bet? Dickens based all his characters on real life.

Please stop with the patronising too.. thank you

    Lol...

You know movies that say they are based on a true story, you know they're not real right? They're based on a true story but the actual story portrayed to you the audience is not the 100% true story. Which actually happened. Because no one was filming the actual true story.

    Laughing to myself here.

I don't understand folks who can choose to live years on end on handouts. It's not astronomical amounts, don't they want nice things in life? To be able to treat themselves to a holiday or even a nice dinner out? How do they live their lives?

Don't presume that all on long-term welfare are barely managing.

The people I know received approx 100,000 in fees grants and cash grants towards third level.

That is on top of welfare payment and med cards.

I would consider that an "astronomical amount".

    They drive an Audi Q5.

What is the ultimate scam combo? Single mother doing hair or minding kids for cash with the “absent” father working as a tradesman earning good money doing private cash jobs, doing some dole as well if he has a real neck. Nice crew cab and seven seater sitting outside their free house, big trampoline out the back.

I am starting to wonder if the government has an ulterior motive. As I said before the Irish are not a nation of sneaks. No matter what we don't like to rat on people. In other countries people scamming the system would have been ratted out long ago and maybe this is why their welfare policies are not so generous.

I don't know the policies of other countries but I do know it isn't nice to rat on people.

Perhaps the government want to get people who are working and paying taxes so angry that they start ratting out dole scammers. I don't mean the people who lose their jobs and get jobseekers for a few months. I don't mean the elderly, carers or those looking after the disabled, they deserve every cent they get and more. Nobody would begrudge them an increase.

But... when people commute long hours, work their butts off, have hardly any time to spend with their children at weekends, can only afford one holiday (if they're lucky), struggle with household bills yet their neighbours who don't work (like the example above) appear to be living the life of Reilly the taxpaying neighbour might be tempted to rat them out, especially if an unexpected expense arises that pushes them even more into the red.

Then again they might be depending on the neighbour for cash in hand childcare because they can't afford creche fees, so they won't rat them out no matter what.

And don't assume because you know one or two that all people on long-term welfare are working the system or pulling in big amounts.

Labelling them all the same is like encountering one person from Dublin who's a prick so you decide all people from Dublin are pricks, only an ignorant fool would label all people from Dublin like this.

If you think they are doing something illegal then please by all means report them.

Even if you do let social welfare know about a possible fraud they don't seem to do much. The other problem is because of data protection you never find out about their findings so you when you see more possible fraud a few months later from the same person you report again and see no results.

What do you expect them to do, write back to you telling you then did XYZ to another person. Do you not see how inappropriate that would be?

So now you begrudge people privacy?

Fair play screamer..I agree 100% but by the posters on here just shows how many unemployed long term wasters we taxpayers are supporting..and when we highlight the growing problem they get narky.. like the water charge protests it would take an all out revolt to get government to listen and actually do anything.. and that's unlikely to happen

I've stated that they can't report private details of an investigation that's obvious in this day and age. But its apparent they've done F**k all if the person is still at the same stuff a few months later.

A simple acknowledgement that they have completed their investigation (not disclosing the result) would be nice.

I've reported a few cases of wasters abusing the system but nothing seems to happen. Ever.

As said before, they have to go into town to collect their dole. So they already have that cost. 6-7 miles, even double that, should be no problem for an able bodied person to walk.

    sigh
    330 libraries, 872 towns but there's 1,100 post offices.

So just because a person can go collect welfare in a Post Office doesn't by any stretch of the imagination mean they can go to a library. It's very simple maths,
Near me I can list of various locations that have a Post Office bu no library...people would have to travel additional distance for a library and in alot of areas they have limited opening hours.

Do you think about any of your "brilliant ideas" for more then 0.001seconds?

Why can’t they go to the library if they are in town?? Or go to the library in the next town over?? I get two buses to get to work. Somehow I survive.

    +1

Train for 65 minutes and two LUAS trips. Each way.

    And pay for the privilege!

Shocking how entitled these people are.

Social welfare payments should be abandoned out right... we'd soon see the appreciation of work.

Seems like a waste of resources for such a thing to occur especially given its of no benefit to you other then you think its "nice".

Given you have no insight to any action taken its your view that nothing happened, that doesn't mean nothing has happened.

Yes, I used to get two buses to work leaving at 5.45am, before I maxed my credit card to buy a €900 car to get to work. Things are different now but starting out you're really badly off if you are working a lower wage job than on the life of dole.

No, i want the response so that I and others on thread can see the merit in reporting stuff. If nothing ever happens why bother?

I can see that nothing has happened as the reported issues are still occurring 1+ years later.

In case you didn't notice they have limited income through welfare, so wasting money on multi bus or taxi trips to go to a library to use the internet just because you think a 30e smartphone and 20e top-up a month is a luxury makes zero sense.

Your argument that a cheap smartphone costing 30e is a luxury and ignores the massive benefits it provides to a person is laughable, you've put zero thought into it.

Your very idea actually helps deny a person easy access to job information so they can't even get off the welfare. Thankfully a "genius" like you isn't in charge of anything important.

How would one create a CV on a smartphone? Does the E30 smartphone come with just MS WORD, or the full MS suite??

You must live in a bubble,
    A person could use https://www.google.com/docs/about/
    free on any device.

You are not even trying to make an effort now

What really intrigues me about threads like this is the level of moaning by some. Honestly if the dole is so great why isn't the unemployment rate higher. Like it's painted as a wonderful life. Seems strange anyone would choose work. 2.2 million people, myself included must be awful idiots .

If living off the dole is so bad, why is the long-term unemployment rate so high?

Here is a thought. You could go to a library and construct a CV. Then you could store it on your phone for forwarding to potential employers as the need arises.
