    Will Eirsport retain some sort of coverage? E.g. a rehash of the official F1 stream in the same way they reserve the CH4 one?

    I have a second satellite dish and get RTL from Germany who show all races live, albeit in German! I suspect they too will go the way of CH4....

    You're in luck (or should that be "Glück"?), RTL's current contract runs until the end of 2020.

    One more year than everyone else. But will it be lights out for Eirsport..?

    Health warning for Baku. It's a live race on Channel 4 and Eddie Jordan will be there. And you just know he'll be hopping mad about Max Verstappen.

    This too shall pass.

    Well, I woke up this morning a couple of hours early for the race, stuck on SSF1, and in my not yet awake state arrived in a surreal reality where Ted Kravitz was walking in and out of the different teams centres on the paddock, handing out fortune cookies?! Someone please tell me that I wasn’t having a seriously twisted dream!

    Fortunately I managed to fall asleep again not long after.

    Yesterdays notebook. It was rubbish except enjoyable conversation with Laura about his airline.

    So I saw Gasly got 2 points on his license for his collision with Hartley. Did Verstappen get points on his license as well ?

    that very harsh. he thought the door was being held open for him to pass.
    even if it wasnt then all he was doing was trying to overtake.

    I think today really highlighted another thing, which is that aerodynamically these cars are a complete nightmare to follow when trying to pass. You could see a few times in the DRS zone, a car would get close but not get passed, and when following in the next turn the car would wash out and run wide, saw it a good bit with the hairpin and final corner combo.

    And you can see above with the bargeboards, these things are so complex now that without clean air they just don't function correctly.

    Is there something to be said for just a single tyre type at each race, and plan around that for pit stops. The difference better the compounds at times is annoying.

    I think there's a bit too much luck involved with the tyres. Won't always affect the top few but there's times people put on a softer tyre and it's expected to go off more quickly and they'll need to stop again but it ends up not happening.

    If they were all on the same compound surely they would all be on the same strategy no?

    the tyres need to have a set level of grip for a certain no of laps then fall off the cliff over a lap or 2 . the tyres slowly loose their life really gradually . there is no real difference between them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,916 ✭✭✭Joeface

    not really, some cars could adjust Aero choices to go further. Driving styles would affect wear just as much.

    looking at todays race. Kimi's mediums were pretty new just a few laps on them and the difference to the softs was massive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,682 ✭✭✭the_pen_turner

    the whole point is that you put on super softs and fly for 10 lapes but then pit again. you put on mediums and do 30-40 laps but a bit slower.

    Last week some were talklng about the weight of the back wheeland I watched the Guy Martin with Williams pitstop show again and they said it was 17 kilo.

    It's been a great start this year and loving Alonso being up in the points and Danny win. :)

    It seems Danny could be driving for Ferrari next year. Woop. :)

    I know it's very early in the season to be discussing drivers moves for next year, the race yesterday got me thinking about Kimi, Valterri and Danny Ric reaching the end of their contracts. Granted the two fins are only on 1 year contract but point stands. Im thinking if red bull win a few races this year, Danny might stay, I know they've set a timline for talks to end after they begin this month. So I'm thinking by the summer break it will be announced whether he is staying or leaving, if leaving I expect the following changes to happen.

    Ricciardo -> Ferrari
    Sainz -> Red Bull
    Leclerc -> possibly on loan to Renault (depending on he performs during the season)
    Ocon -> Mercedes. He's already performing better in the force India than Williams and depending on what Bottas does this year I wouldn't be surprised if his contract isnt renewed.

    For the vacant seat at Force India, they may decide to put Latifi in the seat as he is their junior driver. Also Ferrari may decide to leave LeClerc with Sauber for a few years. In that case the open Renault seat could be given to Artem Markleov (as he is their junior driver)

    Obviously it's still very early in the season for all the talk about that. I just got thinking about after the commentators kept going on about it. It's going to be an exciting year in F2 I'm thinking.

    The problem is being compounded as the cars are being built for running in clear air in qualifying as track position is king. The aero bits you pointed out are demonstration of that.

    So you think Bottas would be out the gap?

    Ah crap I forgot about him in terms of getting a seat. I don't see him being with Merc next year but other than that I'm not sure where he could end up.

    If Leclerc moves anywhere other than to Ferrari, I'd have thought Haas is the mostly likely option.

    atm he doesn't really put himself forward with his performance. But Ferrari is loyal so he will be in the Sauber at least next year.

    Back to Williams at this stage perhaps? They have to rid themselves of Stroll, a granny going to bingo would drive with more passion than him.
