Channel 4 F1 is still my favourite.

When Steve Jones began he first annoyed me but I've become a fan. He's an oddball but at least entertainment is guaranteed!

The Welsh guy with the coiffe? It's exactly his brand of banter that's they use to string the show out for hours before and after the race. They would be better off cutting the banter and starting the show 15 mins before lights out with a quick recap on quali etc. Instead they use duffers like Jones to introduce 45mins of soap opera style 'lewis. Love'em or hate'em?' before and after lights out.

Analysis has gone out the window. I don't bother with the pre or post shows I get the analysis from podcasts and boards. Jones is just there to stall between moderately interesting features. I'd prefer if they cut the foreplay and get back to basics.

These days I'm skipping the whole pre-show (which I used to watch all of) in favour of going straight to the race.

I have to tape most races due to being in NZ and skip most pre-shows, they've become very tabloidly and there is little technical or hard hitting interesting stuff anymore.

Why is Herbert racing driver X in a go kart relevant to anything?, someone was playing golf with Sainz recently FFS.

The only one of the current crop who do a decent technical piece is Karun Chandhok. But not enough unfortunately, C4 rarely seem to give him the time on their live races and I'm watching sky when C4 are highlights only so don't know if I'm missing some then.

Karun when commentating during FP2 session is a wealth of knowledge. I'd agree we don't get enough during the race but he does get good slots in when the pitlane opens before the race.

KC is a gem and it's a pity we will lose him next year.

It's a pity Chandock didn't get a chance to race again, he'd have been a good ambassador for the sport.

What was the name of the Spanish driver who went off and became a DJ?

Jaime Alguersuari, he had huge potential but fell victim of the RB program. There is a video of him somewhere arguing with Marko in the garage, he was gone soon after that.

Sky have a new format f1 show this season. Jesus it's terrible. Drivers playing a silly darts game, golf etc and generally having access to 2 drivers for pretty much the entire show and just throwing silly questions at then.

^^ thanks, that's it. Wasn't he the guy who's first ever drive in an F1 car was qualy? And he did ok?

Pity so many promising drivers fell off. Kobayashi was another one.

so are we in for a good race this weekend , I could only find that Baku had the most over takes of any GP last year
, with 42 in total. I have no Idea what kinda over takes these were and if they happened on just the first lap or spread out over the Race ....But 42 does sound good

I think it really depends what happens. It could be a road train like Monaco can be sometimes or it could be like last year totally crazy. A lot happened in last years race. The two Force India drivers were racing each other and collided causing a safety car and the infamous he brake tested me incident happened between Vettel and Hamilton. Riccardo started all the way down in 10th after crashing in qualifying but ended up winning the race because of luck and good strategy. Other things happened as well can't remember them all.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Super Stroll nearly grabbed 2nd but came 3rd after Bottas caught him out of the last corner and nipped him at the line by a couple of tenths! :p

It was quite an eventful race but, as mentioned, the previous year was a shocker. I'd bet we'll get another eventful one this year and Max will probably be at he centre of it again.....either with another fcuk up or a win. :p

I'd say Max will be a good boy this weekend.

I was thinking that. Unless he wins he needs to keep his head down for a bit. Has he picked up any points on his license in the last couple of races?

According to this he has 3

Hilariously Kvyat still has the most

    He has 5 now apparently
Formula 1 race director Charlie Whiting expects more caution from Max Verstappen after the Red Bull driver's Chinese Grand Prix collision with Sebastian Vettel prompted more penalty points.

Verstappen tapped Vettel into a spin at the Turn 14 hairpin, which earned Verstappen a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points added to his licence.

It means Verstappen now has five penalty points, with drivers receiving an automatic one-race ban if they hit 12 points in a 12-month period.

Whiting said: "There probably is a little bit of criticism but that's what the penalty points are for.

"They are there to make an habitual offender take notice. He's got five points now, so he's going to be more careful I would say."

Verstappen's penalty points tally will not decrease until after the Hungarian Grand Prix.

He picked up two points for hitting his teammate Daniel Ricciardo at Turn 2 on the opening lap of last year's race at Budapest on July 30.

That means his licence will not be cleared of those points after this year's July 29 race.

Martin Brundle isn't on commentary this weekend, it's on his twitter feed. And Sochi And Suzuka as well. Thank god this weekend is live on C4

Thank God Brundle is off this week, I can't stick his obsession with Hamilton.

I’m wondering is this the beginning of the end for Brundle (on health grounds)? Remember Murray Walker missed selected races in 2001 before quitting altogether?

He has had a few health scares so I thought the same, but I really hope not

Without M Brundle the Sky crowd would want to be paying you.

He's started a podcast with Formula E and BBC radio commentator Jack Nicholls and two episodes in I think he just sounds like a grumpy old man now.

Brundle is a young man yet though. Couldn't see him packing it all in unless it was life threatening.
