LeEcco phones have awesome specs for the price. Plenty of unofficial ROMs and support on XDA.
Show up as uncertified device in Play store even with official ROM. No Netflix.

Use an alternate app store if you run into issues like this, the bigger ones will be as solid as Google Play. I have Netflix on my X800 with a custom ROM though, you might just be unlucky with the screening.

Plenty of unofficial ROMs =/= support, especially when most of the ROMs are worse than the stock, and those that are better are hit and miss.

No it is not, for same storage as linked(in the RN5A) it can be got for approx €130 (Or €150 with DHL shipping).

    Example: - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-4-International-Edition-Mobile-Phone-Snapdragon-Octa-Core-5-5-FHD/32796560515.html

If you get a version with larger storage, the price would increase to approx €160

    Edit: - Or from Honorbuy (EU warehouse) €132.79 : - https://www.honorbuy.com/1068-xiaomi-redmi-note-4-international-version-32gb-black.html

Noticing allot of Out of Stock links, with the [WHYRED] device due, the must be clearing out of the remaining stocks. It will probably be hard to get soon.

Is there any difference between the Note 4 and Note 4X?

Bad iPhone notches are happening to good Android phones

This trend can feck off, I cant even bring myself to look at phones with no 3.5mm jack.

Agreed. Ahm looking for a phone now and lots of good spec phones won't be considered without an audio jack.

When the X came out I thought to myself, like it or not this phone is gonna be around for a long time so just get to like it, very same as everyone has iPhone 5/6.. Never thought the dam notch would become a thing so quick

There essentially the same device just for different markets, just make sure of Band 20 support for LTE use here. And avoid the Mediatek versions.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/specs/redminote4x

They even use the same rom. Device name: - MIDO

    And a review: -

    https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_5a_y1-review-1719p6.php

I don't see why people are attracted to this cheap Entry level device, when with a small expense more you could get Budget level device like the Redmi Note 4 or Mi A1.

Or alternatively a Redmi Note 5[WHYRED] due to be launched on 16th of the month in China.

Reason is to have as a backup phone.

Would the 4a for five dollars more be a better buy?

Around that price (€108 delivered) it may be worth looking at the Leagoo Kiicaa mix, Umidigi C2 or the Umidigi C Note.
The Leagoo has a low volume when on call, but it has been said that the MTK engineer mode and works to fix that.
All will have pros and cons at those prices, but perform mostly well, and very well for < €110.

They are similarly spec phones, the RN5A has MIUI 9 Nougat compared to MIUI 8 on the older 4a.

Toss up between these two as a spare phone. I thought one was a replacement for the other given the naming. When in use it would be mostly browsing, whatsapp and viber. Any thoughts on which to go for....

Has anyone got the Mi A1? I'd like to hear your experience of it. Thinking of buying one.

Currently have an Oukitel K6000+ and its decent but battery died in it after 8 months. I've a new battery ordered but using an old backup at the moment and prefer the smaller size phone.

I have one. Loved the phone until I dropped it and smashed the screen. :(

Waiting for a replacement screen from China now. Quoted €50 for screen and fix.

If you want the latest android and possibility of updating to Oreo, go for Note 5a. But hardly no custom rom support as yet for it on XDA.

Redmi 4a recently got MIUI 9 (Nougat) update and won't be updated to Oreo. But has a good community support on XDA.

Xiaomi naming schemes strikes again, allot of people would assume that the RN5a is and update to RN4 (Or the note series in general). It is not, the device specs would make it a serious downgrade.

Thanks. I googled and rang quite a few places, but no one was interested. I am going though my local repair shop now, they are handling the sourcing and the fix. But this info is great to know for future and for other boardsies.

Cheers. I would just be leaving the stock software that it ships with on there.

I guess the main differences are....

Both seem to be the same spec 720p, but the smaller 5" screen on the 4a might be better in real life than the 5.5" screen?

The 4a has an extra 16gb space. Probably a good thing, but I wouldn't be adding a lot of photos or videos.

They are both plastic bodies, so maybe the 5.5" would have too much flex in the body.

The 4a has the speakers on the back, which might be a bad thing when the phone is lying down.

    hmmmm, decisions.

    One of each.lol

I'll let you know if mine arrives tomorrow. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does - it was only picked up in Italy today so I'd assume it's unlikely!

    Great advice

I've been waiting 2 months for a replacement screen from Aliexpress. Never again. Unfortunately Honorbuy did not have a Note4x screen in stock otherwise I would have used them.

Watched the video on DIY screen replacement, when mine does arrive I think I will be leaving it to the pros!

Did you use free shipping? With Xmas and Chinese Holidays no wonder it is delayed.

I received delivery of a Battery on 26th Feb ordered on 6th, paid €2.16 extra so it wasn't coming by free post. Still waiting on free post orders from zapals ordered on 14th Jan.

The Meizu MX4 Pro (amongst many others) has a dedicated DAC, and is around $150 if you can manage to find one. They aren't very easy to come by, last place i saw one was DealXtreme (DX.com), but they do show up from time to time.
To use as a Portable Media Player for a price that isn't bad, it's probably your best bet.

any of you good people got a mi max 2 ?
    i am intrigued by it.
i dont like curved screens and much prefer the traditional wider 16:9 ratio...although thats going to be gone completely as a choice on all phones too it seems.
i also like huge screens on phones....over 6"

youtube videos can never really give a good idea of real world size in the hand i think.....i watched so many videos of the galaxy note 8 and how it was declared massive...but when i got to hold it in the shop it felt small due to the thin tallness of it.....honestly feel like my old galaxy note 4 was as big to look at.

anyway...id love to hear an honest regular person (as opposed to a reviewers) account of a mi max 2

I have mine about 5/6 weeks now and honestly I love it. At first the size was huge, I have had 2 galaxy Notes and a Ulefone Power over the last few years so definitely have experience with big phones but this thing was just massive. I am used to it now and it doesn't seem too big anymore but whenever someone new sees it and comment the first thing they mention is the size. My wife can't use it at all. I would definitely recommend a cover, it is a slippery ****er without one.

My brothers Nubia M2 arrived on Friday (4GB/64GB version). Very nice phone.
Camera is great on it, although I only got to play with it for a little while.
He bought it for €136 and did not get stopped (Does not mean that the next one won't) but it is currently €123 from Banggood with code BG6M26

The Z17 lite, Z11 and Z9 have all hovered around the $200 mark during sales. I will definitely be watching them.

The LeEco Le S3 (3GB/32GB) is also on Sale on Banggood for €88 with code BGLEX522 which is a great price for that even if it does get stopped by customs.

For the price i don't think that would be a huge deterrent over the phone. It has band 3 which is available in some areas..
I'm rarely out of range of Wifi anyway, so it would not bother me, especially for the price. 3G etc.

The fingerprint reader on my Xiamoi 4x keeps failing. It'll fail to recognise either of the regsitered fingerprints repeatedly. Then I'll unlock with the swipe code and the next time it might or might not recognise the fingerprint. If I re-regsiter the fingerprints it works for a bit again but soon goes back to failing. I got it in January any up to last week was working perfectly.

    Any ideas?

There are a lot of people having the same problem on all Redmi 4 devices.
XDA is filled with them as are the Mi\Miui forums. I don't know if it's all the same problem, but many are just replacing them with new ones (it is very easy).
    http://en.miui.com/thread-1577645-1-1.html
    http://en.miui.com/thread-1799276-1-1.html

    http://en.miui.com/thread-809861-1-1.html
    http://en.miui.com/thread-652646-1-1.html

I initially thought it might be an update issue (On my sisters Redmi Note 4), but i am now not so sure.
I limited the results above to just the 4X. There are more threads on there and on the XDA forums - https://goo.gl/cKnkoj
