Just to confirm.. You have tuner A set as single and tuner B is set as "B = A" which is an actual setting. I don't mean just set identical to A. Finding 920 sat channels sounds about right. You could also swap them about to confirm that sat B is actually working. In other words sat B is single and sat "A = B" If a scan of sat B finds 920 then your good to go.
From memory you wont see separate channel listings for both sat tuners as they share the same data. It wont say A found 920, B found XXX or whatever, simply 920 sat channels found.

If Tuner A=Tuner B, then the box shouldn't need to scan Tuner B.

Try recording one satellite channel and see if you can watch any other sat channels - if you can, both A and B are fine.

I Was about to buy the Formuler F1 but I am now wondering about the Tiviar Alpha +

Aside from having space for an internal drive are there any advantages / disadvantages between these boxes ?

Not forgetting, of course, that you can always use the satellite finder option to check signal levels per tuner on any TP.

Gerry can you please tell me how I can dwindle the 900+ channels to a useful 100 or even less.

    Two easy choices:-
    1) Enter the box's network address (192.168.xxx.xxx) into any web browser on the same network to open the WEBIF. Use this to create a favourites bouquet.
The WEBIF function lets you edit all sorts of things as well as streaming, setting timers etc.

    2) install DREAMBOXEDIT program on a PC and use it to edit channels.

I haven't seen any feedback for the Tiviar yet. The specs are similar so I guess it's a case of paying a bit more if you really want an internal drive. Many F1 users (and other makes) already had an external HDD knocking around.

Do you want to volunteer as our guinea pig? I'm sure the feedback would be welcomed.

Kodi on E2 is the ugliest thing going, don't bother with it. If you're desperate to use Kodi then get an android box or similar, so much easier to set up and maintain.

I'm in the same boat looking between the 2.
although I'd prefer to have an internal HDD, I think I'm going for the formuler based on better distro support.. openpli is also supported officially.
    I guess its another consideration.

I think this is the most important consideration.

How long will the OE alliance teams and indeed the manufacturer support the box. I know for certain that the Formuler F1 manufacturer released new drivers for certain enc protocols only recently.

I think I have sorted the channels using bouquet editor, so now I need help with the recording process. I have looked in the recording settings but cant see where I can set up a recording of any of the channels. I remember seeing some thing when I was trying to set the box but I cant find it again. Thank you all for your help and patience in this learning curve.

Noticed something else - The Formuler doesn’t have a scart socket , if you wanted to use a modulator to distribute the signal to other TVs ( similar to RF2 on Sky) you would need a HDMI modulator as opposed to the cheaper Scart modulator. The Tiviar has a scart socket.

You set recordings from the EPG. Use the coloured buttons at the bottom of the EPG screen to select a "quickrecord" which uses the default settings and just does it. The "timer" button opens a screen to change the settings from the default if you really want to. There is also the "autotimer" button which allows you set up the equivalent of series recording.

But it has composite out which is the same right? (just need the right cable).
I bet on Formuler in the end. should be here tomorrow. the external disk is a pain.

I don’t think you can convert ‘composite out’ in order to distribute the signal in the same way as RF2. Would be interested if there is a solution to this , other than an expensive HDMI modulator.

I get you now - the second RF output. but I don't know how scart fixes that? Would have thought either of these might do it?

Of course you can. Its just another source input, just like Scart.

Most modulators are set up to do exactly that as well as carry a UHF feed. The combining is done by the RF Box.

Try the playlist button maybe? Not sure I've never recorded with the box.
