    Ah come on.

Football exists but you don't have to play it.

Accidents happen but most people do their best to avoid perilous situations.

One way to avoid brain trauma is to not play football. If you do in this day and age then you can't complain down the line because you knew what you were letting yourself in for.

Its the players who played before it was known how dangerous the sport actually was/is that have a gripe.

Nobody forces them, but for a lot of them the best way out of poverty is making it as a pro. It's not every player of course but many would feel they don't have much choice. Also just because they aren't forced to doesn't mean some safety considerations shouldn't be made.

If you aren't willing to accept the risks then don't do it.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what reason makes you decide to play, the information is out there as to how dangerous it is so there is no excuse.

I'm all for more measures being brought in to make it safer but at the end if the day its a business and its never going to become tag football which is about the only way to make sure its safe. Nobody is going to sit down and watch tag football though.

Next CBA negotiations will be interesting. Will the union make player safety a major issue and be willing to take less of a salary cap increase to get it? I extremely doubt it. They'll want their cake and eat it too but in the end will just take the money.

I haven't heard one realistic rule change that both fans and players would like to help eliminate concussions. And I don't know enough about helmet technology to know what's being done in that area.

With regards Rules realistically all they can do is keep outlawing Helmet to Helmet hits. They still need to crack down on defender going for the big hit leading with their heads. Many will argue they are tackling correctly but the Football world times have changed and many coaches and teams have realized they have to be more responsible from grass roots up.

Biggest problem is coaches not teaching proper tackling methods and not putting a stop to players doing foolish tackles for the show. Pee Wee football here is an absolute joke and you have regular Joes pretending to be coaches and not teaching the game properly.

It is only until they reach HS that the majority of the coaches now teach proper form tackling and emphasize the dangers of tackling wrong and tackling to "Hurt" I put hurt in "" because even though there is no intent some of these tackles do nothing more than hurt people and willingly hitting someone wrong negates intent in my eyes.

College players now are being thrown out of games for anything that resembles a bad tackle and coaches there now doing a lot to manage it. Only in the last decade have coaches come together and realized it is time for change.

As for helmets there is only so much they can do. I have been lucky being involved in the sport and living in MA to see some of the changes being tested out in football with new technology and it will help them study the brain and also lower the impact somewhat but will never remove it.

Everybody plays a part in at least doing some sort of prevention but until they weed out a certain mentality that still lives it will be a long time coming especially in the Pros.

    Would expect..

A bigger pension package including medical care
Annual an significant CTE research contribution

I think they should move away from fines (which are largely meaningless to a lot of these players) and move towards suspension for the worst of these hits and particularly for repeat offenders. At the moment I think they are still just paying Lip service to the concussion issue and haven't really started to tackle the problem properly.

I think they need to lose TNF but as that brings in cash it will be tough to see that happen.

TNF should be tied to bye-weeks (not exactly sure how that would work, I remember somebody coming up with a suggestion before) so that nobody plays Thursday after playing the previous Sunday.

New deal with Fox signed this week. So TNF’s definitely here to stay

Apparently will be worth about 11 million per team in salary cap. It's the kind of thing you'll see individual players complaining about but will never see the union going after.

It’s been an annual rumour for the past 5 years or more and now it’s happening

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome stepping down at the end of the season and Eric DeCosta will take over

DeCosta had a high profile and is on a GMs salary already.

Nothing weird or wacky here, everyone knew this was coming. Awesome? Hmmm DeCosta had a lot of power already so he can’t unlink himself to the last few mediocre draft classes

I think this is maybe too simplistic a view on it.

Whilst they may not have a gun pointed at their head, forcing them onto the pitch they have been reared, educated and surrounded by football, and the allure of a professional contract, from such a young age. Coaches, parents, teachers, friends would all have been putting pressure (perhaps unintentionally) on a young footballer who may have shown signs they could become a multi-millionaire by playing the sport.

I think these pressures may lead to players believing that they are indeed forced to play

The hall of fame selection meeting to select the class for 2018 has started. I think they still let us know who gets cut from the 15 to 10.

Delighted Urlacher got in first time, well deserved as well but thought with Lewis there he wouldn't make it first time out.

Speaking of which, presumably Lewis got in too

Well done to dawk. Very well deserved. A legend. Ray Lewis I won't say what I'm actually feeling as it would lead to a ban. As a football player ray lewis was a great player but off it..well I'll say no more.

TO wasn't a locker room cancer which was a stupid excuse to begin with. The Super Bowl he played for the eagles is on the gamepass archives and he played a blinder. It was mcnabb and Reid who made a balls of that game.

Did he ? Ah brilliant stuff. It's easily 30 years too late but better late than never.
