I'm a student and we get a free planner every year from the student union. Also for students it would need to be dated to suit the academic year- hers isn't!
Well that's about the only thing I do like is that it's not dated, so in theory depending on when you get it, you can always get a full 12 months out of it. But that's about all I like about it. Imagine if you lost it or spilled something on you, you'd be raging.

Mine would be full of scribbles and torn pages. Lol sorry Pippa I do not have the patience for your pretty notebook

    What section?

Yeah as someone else said they're beside the black bags. They don't stand out a huge amount. If you can't spot them just ask a member of staff.

I agree, fifty quid for a candle! Give over, woman!

Another here that loves candles. Got a lovely one in Aldi a while back, a fiver. It's as good as any expensive candle I have ever bought. They will probably have a good range in for Christmas too.
And when I say expensive, I feel wild when I buy say a Max Benjamin candle for twenty / twenty five quid, and they are a well established seller.

I've been reading about the Max Benjamin brand, Irish family run brand, all hand poured candles, and they smell amazing. I'll definitely look into this brand more - and you can buy two for the price of one Pippa candle.

Aldi candles on sale next Sunday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,039 ✭✭✭✭retro:electro

If anything good has come from her release, it's that we all now know about the Aldi candles!
I wonder how much it actually costs to produce a candle? It can't be that much? Same with the planner... she has gone for developmentally cheap products but lashed an expensive tag on them. Nothing new there but I'd say her take home out of it would be something else.

I'd say she's gone into it aiming at the Avoca market, but even then she's majorly overshot. Max Benjamin is sold in Avoca and most others they sell would be about the price range also. I can't recall ever seeing a medium sized candle for 50 quid in there and most of their stuff is handmade etc hence the price tag. I wonder where these are sourced from?

Also, if you look at the video of them, the glass is quite thick so you're getting even less candle. On instagram so many "stop complaining, build women up" comments...a lot from bloggers and wannabe bloggers. God forbid they have a negative opinion on an overpriced candle, it might affect them getting invites to events and tatty award shows.

I had no idea, cheers for sharing. I'll definitely be more inclined to buy Max Benjamin in future

I'm a big fan of Max Benjamin. Their diffusers are lovely too. Not cheap, (well maybe, compared to Pippa's candles, lol) but they last ages.

Saw the post on her Instagram and definitely smelt the L'Eau De Bull****. She read the script so well. I can't believe people suck up this tosh. I think I'll stick to my 7.95 Yankee Candle Cinnamon tea lights. There's no way I'd get ripped off to make someone like this richer. I don't know why so many people follow the likes of her and suck up everything she says.

I did laugh at the video a bit, sitting reading with the candle burning nonchalantly. I'd be watching it burn down, thinking, better blow this bad boy out in a second, this has to last me!:P

They're a good price range for a luxury gift (to your self or others)!

This has turned into a (appropriate priced) candle appreciation thread, it's hilarious :)

Even the lingo she used to describe the candles- sexy, woody, sophisticated, masculine!

    It's a candle!

    Load of contrived waffle.

I laughed too - but more at the thought of the candle tipping over and spilling hot wax all over the blanket as soon as the pins and needles set in from being cross legged on the bed :P:D The same with the one perched on the towel on the side of the bath - €50 quid either smashed on the floor or swimming in bath water!

The worst thing is the people fawning over her in the comments. Saying they have their card ready to buy. They don't even know what the candles smell like ffs  It just goes to show how stupid and blind some of these followers are. She'd put her name on a turd and they'd be falling over themselves to buy it

I see that the "if you don't like it, don't follow" lemming mantra is being applied to buying candles too. HATE that if you point out how ridiculous the pricing is (which people are doing very respectfully) they're getting lashed out of it for not supporting Irish or tearing a businesswoman down. Consumers have a right to comment and as others have pointed out here there are plenty of Irish companies who make their own product (so work just as hard if not harder than Pippa) and don't charge what she's charging, they also don't have the massive SM following or backing of Xpose etc on them.
The more I see of the blogging industry in Ireland, the more I dislike the lot of them.

Another recommendation for cheaper Irish made candles...fantastic smells and you can keep the jar. They are usually at the RDS home fair around Nov/Dec and do deals at that. I'll buy Irish, just not if I'm getting ripped off...are Pippa's even made in Ireland?! (The Skin Nerd made particular reference to supporting Irish in her comment on instagram)

    Not #ad or #spon haha

I don't think they're even made in Ireland! She made a looot of business trips abroad this year where she was meeting people about the products. I'd be very surprised if they were made here. Support Irish? You mean support Irish blogger not Irish produce. Why don't they support their loyal followers by not charging half a tonne for cangle

So the site has gone live, and the candles are priced at 42 https://pippacollection.com/collections/candle/products/pink-peppercorn-ruby-candle

The products look stunning but I wouldn't go near them for the price. Really unfortunate, but the max I'd spend on a candle is 30 for a Max Benjamin one!

I still can't get my head around the €45 price point for an undated planner.... surely if it's undated it's a notepad...

I HATE the way she talks with her mouth to one side. Just like Doireann Garrihy's impression of her.
Why did she think people would spend fifty quid on her candle when we can buy Jo Malone? Pippa is getting ideas above her station.
