Ivan introduced a contributor this evening as "Newstalks favorite resident Doctor...... Dr Sinead Beirne"

    Take that Dr Ciara Kelly!

Chris Donoghue has been very critical of George Hook over the last couple of days. I'm too annoyed with him at the moment to listen to his new Sunday Show. Does anyone know if he mentioned the Hook controversy?

with half of newstalk coming from INM i suppose its no surprise to see flow the other way in the form of shona there.

TBH though with all thats going on in the media bubble im more interseted to see how they react to the consolidation dinny wants. most of the papers have pooled editorial now and the radio stations are going the same way.

be interesting to see who gets the chop for whom.

weve already seen sarah mac take out sarah carey.

as for "healy communications" , christ talk about an oxymoron !

he'd be STILL doing the job if he was any good. looks like the aul adage is at work "those that cant, TEACH"

    :D:D:D:D

All this talk of 20 names on a petition...

Does anyone know how many people work in Newstalk?

As far as I can tell, that could be up to half the Off The Ball team.

If it's still only 20 then it's hardly going to be presented to management.

I'd say those 20 people will become pariahs of a kind if the petition doesn't actually do anything. There must be 100 plus within the entire station.

Certainly there'll be residual ill will on all sides.

My radio has been stuck on newstalk for the last 7 years but it's now time for a change. What other daytime shows are worth tuning into?

In terms of Irish talk radio? Precious little...

like most sane people - totally disagree with Hooks comments - he did apologise - we all make mistakes - even though my thinking would be on the liberal/left - I want to hear other points of view , not just Politically Correct Irish Times speak. Seams like a liitlle bit of a witch-hunt by the PC brigade.

The entire fiasco in one brief post.

    Well said.

It is remarkable in the era of Trump and Brexit, both subjects covered for literally hours every day on NT, that the witch-hunters don't realise how this sort of thing galvinises those who oppose them.

not just those who oppose them, but those who never gave a shyte, and are finally just tired of "it's my way or the high way" being shoved down their throats day in and day out.

Exactly this, i don't always agree with him and at some times have switched channel due to what he said angering me BUT i dont want to live in an echoe chamber of only hearing things I agree with. How I better form my opinions and arguments for things I believe in and my own opinions is by listening to those I disagree with. The current agenda of looking to remove all dissenting voices to the hard left liberal way of thinking is deeply troubling.
FYI I would consider myself a centrist with a very slight lean to the right.

Also I only just discovered Dil is pushing a bit of an anti-vax agenda, can we start a campaign to get her fired due to her doing some potential real damage by endangering the public's health?

Hell I just realised it's a choice between Donoghue and Finucane :(

A quantum leap from Sunday Misscellany and Bobby Kerr.

Option 3, take to hound for a walk.

Won't listen to Newstalk again, won't buy the ST after Myers (although like Hook he was also wrong). Could never buy the Indo.

A trip to the bookshop beckons and sport on the TV.

I quite enjoyed the CD's first show and was willing to give him a chance as I listened to Ivan most Sundays.

I wonder will he be in studio more often midweek (like Coleman used to be) now that he has managed to get George the boot and won't have to face him.

    I strongly suspect yes.

Granted I don't listen to his show regulalry but when I did I liked Bobby's show.

There's only so much politics and current affairs you can take and his show was different but interesting too.

Who's this fukn eejit who took over from Chris and Sarah Newstalk Drive? He comes across as an absolute arse. Discussing electric cars: "IS IT NOT ALL CODOLOGY?". In the course of an hour last week he talked fondly about how he used to ignore/pretend to sleep through his children crying at night to make his wife look after them, then later went on a rant about Newstalk not being at all sexist because it hires a number of women.

    Obnoxious dinosaur type.

I'm not a big radio listener but recently started driving to work and was a big big fan of Newstalk Drive. Back to streaming music it is!

Was at the ploughing yesterday and walked past Ivan presenting his show in a cubicle not much bigger than a phonebox, I remember a few years ago they had a massive room, although listening to Kenny on the way in the sound quality was way better than your usual outside broadcast.

Chris donohues new role seems like a serious demotion / step backwards in his career, seems to be on call to give his input from 7am until 7pm. Add in the prep work and that's a crap work life balance.

True. But now thats he helped get rid of Hook, he has a chance to add failure on a lunchtime slot to failure on breakfast and drive time slots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,237 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

IMO, Chris isn't suited to a show. He is better at analysis, segments etc. Trying to drive an entire show, that covers multiple and varying areas doesn't seem to be his thing.

Thought he was going to the Independent,or is he doing both?

These were the guys giving advice to teenagers about having threesomes a few years ago.

    All very liberal and progressive.
    PC Chris fits in perfectly.
