It'll only be a couple of months before he's in a weekday slot.

Sarah from Drive might want to update the old cv.

Bobby Kerr gets a new 9-11 slot on Sunday, the doctor goes to 9am on Saturday and Healy gets the boot.

Ads are running now on the station for Yates new show.

its starting this sunday (april 2nd) at 11 am.

tough slot if you aske me. Sunday is the "serious" slot on marion. if he had the show at 11am on a Sat he'd kick her ass as its all soft focus luvvie stuff.

still cant fault the lad for trying to put it up to the competition. god knows he's gotta be better than todayfms output and i dont think i ever listened to healys show of the same time.
I'm a regular listener to both of Marian's weekend slots, but I'll be switching. The only reason I listen faithfully to Marian is because the competition has always been so dire.

But I'm sick of hearing the same gobsmackingly insular voices on Marian's Sunday panel, consisting of a token senator, a retired politician, a doltish pol corr, and some lagubrious member of the law library who is only delighted to be taken seriously outside the confines of the Four Courts Complex. Enough! It wouldn't be so bad if she occasionally confronted one or two of them and challenged their worldview and opinion, but she does not.

I'll gladly be switching from Marian to Ivan. I hope I'm not the only one. RTE need to remember we don't all disappear on weekends.

Now if only someone would do run something between the hours of 2pm and 6pm that doesn't involve balls. I'm a fan of the GAA but I wouldn't mind a bit of diversity now and again. Surprised Newstalk haven't explored this route.

thanks for that, didnt know kelly was being moved. i thought she got the boot too.

i'll prob tune into ker as i'll be on the bus then going to work and the only thing on is Sunday miscellany on RTE.

ive long maintained the weekend is RTEs weekspot as the choice is pretty rank till marion and the news then its ALL sport whether ya like it or not.

Four hours of Bobby Kerr at the weekend might be a bit much.
I welcome the return of Ivan but giving Jonathan Healy the boot was a bit unfair if it means two more hours of Bobby albeit in a "magazine" style show whatever that means.

I agree, thought they could have left Bobby do one show and Jonathan the other.

Yeah leave Healy, Ivan 10-12 and let OTB keep the paper review (which has always seemed like a bit of filler to me but seems to be wildly popular on here) would have seemed the way to go. I doubt the world is crying out for four hours of Bobby Kerr of a weekend...

    Just listening to Drive here.

Did you know they don't do staff training in Newstalk anymore, because last time they did the trainer was injured in the scrum to be teacher's pet?

    It should be Goody-two-shoesTalk 106fm.

"Celebrity" driven lately, not one of them are any good.

There's something amusing about roughly 12 hours of shows asking wtf the Trump clown is at having ads about how wonderful that Trump golf resort is every break.

"Do you worry about the risks?"

    "Like, what risks?"

Henry McKean seems to have been moved to 9pm on Sunday to cover things like do kids think other kids get phones at too young an age.

Who used to give out about Marc Coleman? I hope you're happy now!!

(I only tuned in for Tom Dunne, by the way. Where's he gone?)

It's starting to look like Ivan Yates has been given Shane Coleman's old job - standing in for any of the presenters at any time.

Keeping Jonathan Healy on the bench has to be the priority here, let's not forget that.

It might have been good if that interview with Pat Hickey was given to one of the OTB team instead of Paul Williams.

The man shouldnt have been given any airtime to play the victim. Heard part of the interview on drive yesterday and was a nauseating poor me interview.

Does anybody in Newstalk actually listen to their programme ads? They keep advertising Off The Ball's coverage of the upcoming Munster Football Final and Leinster Hurling Final, which would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that both of these games took place two weeks ago

He appears to be an amiable chap and apart from the repetitious and overused cliches of 'business speak' spouted by virtually all his guests on the business show, he's fairly decent at the radio these days - however, two mornings in a row is far too much.

Been with Newstalk for over ten years and did not welcome all the changes albeit I did get used to them and I continue to enjoy the station's format and style overall.

This one change, alas, is grating on me.

Lately I've been finding myself, sneakily changing over to John Creedon, while I'm walking the dog; a temporary measure, I might add, during the reduced summer times for Off The Ball.

I fiddled with the dial again this morning and it was astoundingly pleasurable.

    Perhaps I am out-growing Newstalk? I am 43 and a half.

You managed to switch before Jason Byrne appeared! Wish I'd done the same.

I like the format of the show and it's a nice start to Sunday morning but it's hard to actually like Bobby Kerr. Seems a pleasant enough chap and he obviously prepares for his guests but everything is just a bit too 'fantastic' for my tastes.

    Ivan is still the man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭Brian Lighthouse

Yes, Ivan, he is The Man. Perhaps he might get the auld business end of his life sorted once and for all and then finally settle down into a regular slot for ever and ever. Amen. Hopefully he doesn't have to do a world tour or a wild welsh wander with the each of the kids. ;-)

Anyway, who cares whether he interviews guests while sitting, standing or lying on his back: T'is the intellect, insight, interrogation and cheekiness we want from him. If things are really bad, pre-record and have a stockpile to broadcast on his bad days, not repeats, but a stock of unheard stuff. He's a master at it.

Sarah McInerney and himself combined would be a power house. If you got through an interview unscathed with either of those grilling you, t'is a cabinet position in the waiting. However if you survived both of them in a tag team effort - the EU would be almost forced to create the position of President of the European Union and just hand it to you.

I'll never forget when Sarah McInerney started on Drive, she was grilling Gerry Adams. He refused to answer a question and she kept pressing. He told her that if she continued he's never appear on her show again. Well, low and behold, sure t'sn't a peep that's been heard since.

I'm telling you, Ivan and Sarah combined would frighten the living daylights out of any politician.
Any Newstalk Executives reading this? Go for it, make it happen!!!

Not sure what it was today, but this morning those two lads on the morning show really wrecked my head. Paul Williams in particular.

He comes across as an arrogant, condescending ignoramus who has no time for any view but his own and seems to think that he is some some of a shock jock. He seems to go out of his way to be contrary.

Also this forced back and forth between the pair. Either they really do hate each other as it is just an act but either way it doesn't work.

I haven't been listening to them much in the mornings and turned it on this morning and was taken aback by how poor the show was.

Chris was hosting Ivan's former Sunday show yesterday. Will he be doing this permanently, and if not who will?

I think he will, didn't it have a different name?

I caught a bit of it, he said the Hidden Histories fella "came with me to Sunday" or words to that effect.

Yeah just checked the website there, "ON THE RECORD WITH CHRIS DONOGHUE" is the pretty meh name. Heard the first hour, Chris was a bit hyper but overall decent radio.

Three times today on Newstalk news bulletins I heard the news reader refer to St Vincent de Paul as just de Paul, is this the new cool thing?

They're really flogging the Football night in the Olympia. It's being mentioned as part of hourly sports news updates today.

Yes and theyre Diabolical. So harsh, especially in the morning and that fake english accent is just so grating... Sounds like someone doing a bad impersonation of Jackie whatsername, bill cullens wife, or maybe it is her...
