Oh, and by the way Newstalk management, just so you know, you can dïck about with the schedule and the presenters and your funny little power plays all you want.

But I'll be switching off in protest at hearing that f*ckin Beyonce song on that f*cking Lotto ad every five minutes all day every Friday.

Do you not realise how annoying it is to have a few seconds of high tempo R&B blasted out at a higher volume than the actual talking you tune in to listen to over and over again? Would you like it if someone interrupted a conversation you were having with a f*ckin brass band every 15 minutes all day?

Podcasts for the rest of the day.

You know thats part of the contract they sign with advertisers? Its the same with telly, adverts are louder than regular programming, its not a new thing that only happens on NT

Great to hear Johnathon Healy back on day time radio, I miss him from midday, it was a great round up between Tom Dunne and Moncrief.

Even if it was just for one (budget) day!

There's an interesting question. Would people take Johnathan back to take over High Noon?

I hadn't realised it was part of a contract. Shouldn't surprise me, there is almost nothing to do with advertising that I don't hate.

Oh please no! I'd rather High Noon with Dil than a Healy return.

Surely has to be a woman.

My money's on Sarah McInnerney or part time Dr. Ciara Kelly.

I thought Kelly did a good job filling in for Paul Williams.
Now I know Jar Jar Binks would've been an improvement on Williams but he obviously knows where the bodies are buried so we're stuck with him.

McInnerney has too much of an agenda for my liking.
    Kelly is more personable.

    Kelly is more personable.

Quite poorly informed on politics/current affairs in many cases, though. Or maybe just not confident in articulating it.

She would fit right in so

I thought Claire Brock was quite good when she was filling in as presenter on Newstalk Drive (and possibly others) over the last few months.

She seemed to lack anything resembling a distinguishable personality though? I have never seen her on tv and I am judging by a few appearances on radio (maybe her first few). A bit like the doc.. all sounds a bit forced.

Sarah Mc or Cuddihy would be my choice.

    Gina London on yet again

The more I think about it the more the whole Hook/personal responsibility comment/Dil situation doesn’t make sense to me and was badly handled.

Also, the signing of the petition by 20 staff members seems a massive over reaction for only the on-air comment.

Well I'm disgusted by what happened to George Hook. I loved listening to him and a big part of the reason for that was because he was never afraid to take a side on something and argue for it. It's another big win for the pc police in this country to have him removed from his show.

I am turning off newstalk for good. I wouldn't be able to listen to his replacement as it would just consistently annoy and upset me and I'd consider that person similar to a scab type because I don't think any self-respecting journalist should stand for a person being treated like this just for being controversial.

Oh my God, who's the fella with the 'dog ruff' voice?

Don't normally listen to Newstalk at this time of the day but this presenters voice would go through you like a chainsaw, awful to listen to in the extreme!

Unless he currently has a throat illness?

    In which case big apologies.

Tuned in to check. It's Bobby Kerr. He's a pain in the hole!

Whatever about the docs finances what is the fella doing on the air?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,069 ✭✭✭✭LordSutch

    Bobby Kerr you say ...

    Is that his normal voice?

Sounds like Ciara Kelly’s show today is a platform for vested interests. They should call it Ciara’s Call-In. Three on air “listeners” in the first 45 minutes. Yeah - Right.

Interesting to see my mum tune out when ciara comes on now. So much for putting a woman on for the ladies to listen to. She use to have newstalk on from 9am till 6pm.

Haven't tuned in to Newstalk in weeks.

I use to listen to the entire high noon plus other shows. Just listen to a bit of Ivan now and he seems tame now. Listening to talk radio and lbc now instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,209 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

Used to listen to the morning show, and then turn on whenever I got into the car. I imagine that many people have a 'default' station, probably set from the morning show.

The morning show with Paul and Shane is a total mess, IMO. Hard to listen to, seems poorly researched.

So that means that I rarely bother with NT at all now. I wonder if that is typical?

You turn off a news talk radio station for mentioning that it will be discussing the news?

He is recovering (or has recovered) from head and neck cancer, which I think has affected his voice.

Yes but it is one of the most significant news topics of this decade. And Pat Kenny's discussions on it are some of the most interesting you will find anywhere.

I agree that there is more news in the world but this is very interesting.

Wow. Must be a record for saying the words "dog poo" over the last half hour.
