    Well bollox.

I went to respond to this by saying "I feel like Dougal in the cockpit looking at the red button" but then of course when I replied it unspoilerd your text for me. It wasn't too bad, I kinda figured this anyway.

Gotta stay off boards now too.

This is pretty cool. Took 3 shots of nugget as he ran towards us for a lineout on Friday night. Phone randomly asked yesterday if I wanted to create a panorama and it ended up like this:

Well, that's GoT done for another year.
Really enjoyed the episode for the most part. I thought the Kings Landing scenes were brilliant. It highlighted how good the wider cast of characters are who haven't featured as much this season. The Hound, Bronn, Brienne etc. And it had more of Cersei in it. I find if she features significantly, you're almost certain of drama.

It's wasn't all perfect. I think everything that happens in the north is still quite forced and Deus Ex Machina style. Sam just waltzes into Bran's chambers despite nobody knowing who he is and within 20 seconds blurts out what he knows of Jon's parents? Bran then handily gives a full run down of the entire situation over some scenes depicting what happened in the past. It completely removes the intrigue and tension which is what makes the show great.

Also the WW and The Wall...just too handy. Bang. Wall is down. Just threw some fire on it and the whole thing collapsed.

Daenerys is totally going to be up the damo too.

Yeah, after thinking the season had been rushed up to now I do think last nights episode worked in the main.
I wasn't enjoying the Winterfell storyline as I couldn't believe that Sansa in particular could be that stupid. The conclusion of that made a lot of sense, but the best bit about it for me was just how Littlefinger misjudged everyone in the north. He thought he knew what he was doing like in Kings Landing but they don't play politics like that in the north.

The Kings Landing scenes were all excellent. Tyrion meeting Bronn again, Brienne meeting Jamie again, the Hound meeting the Mountain again, Tyrion meeting Cersei again, Jon & Dany meeting Cersei for the first time and the White Walker reveal. I do wonder what Qyburns reaction to that revelation will be. And the way they built the tension for the meeting was great.

The Bran and Sam scene for me was okay. Bran knew who Sam was, and almost certainly knows his relationship to Jon. If there was anyone he was going to tell it was going to be Sam. Who else could be trusted to handle that properly? Sansa has issues with him as it is and Arya wouldn't be of any use in that scenario. I can only imagine how freaked out Jon will be when he hears he's after banging his aunt! :D

I also really liked the way they managed the breakdown of the relationship between Cersei and Jaime. There is no way after seeing everything that he has seen that Jaime would be able to remain where he was. But there needed to be that interaction with Cersei.

I find there's an interesting parallel at the moment between Cersei and Sansa. Littlefinger has been trying to isolate Sansa so that he can do to her what he did to her aunt. But Sansa has managed the situation perfectly, making herself the Lady of Winterfell and gaining the support of all around her despite not really looking for power. Meanwhile Cersei is desperately trying to cling onto what power she has and is isolating herself in the process. Euron aside she has has nobody really. And he's not exactly the kind of guy you can trust. Qyburn is only there because she allows him off to do his thing and I can't imagine the Mountain is much company.

The white walker dragon was a plot necessity. How else were they going to get past the wall really? And it looked cool.

You can really tell the difference between the post-book writing, the intrigue and mystery and suspense is all gone, now it feels more like a Hollywood blockbuster, which is no bad thing but you can now tell why they made the series shorter; they don't have the skill to write it without the books as a guide. Sure Martin has probably told them how it goes and ends, but it could badly do with being fleshed out more.

I agree with that. It'll be the same next season though with only 6 episodes.

Yeah, massive difference in the pacing and quality of the writing this season. I thought the King's Landing scenes was much more like the writing of previous seasons where they went with less is more. Plenty of silence and tension in all of the scenes there with the actors and actresses admirably carrying it, particularly the 3 Lannisters.

Whilst there was drama in the Winterfell scenes, I still thought the dialogue was a bit hammy. It's also probably down to those actors/actresses not being of the same standard as those who were in the KL scenes (not nearly as experienced in fairness). They spelled everything out for those scenes and it was quite simplistic. "How do you plead....LORD BAELISH? *DUN DUN DUUUUUUUN*

I wouldn't be surprised if it was two different teams writing the KL and Winterfell scenes

Lena Headey played a blinder in this episode. Phenomenal acting.

Yeah I heard about. Bad idea in my opinion, show could fall out of interest with that long a wait and it would weight itself down with expectation after such a delay.

I thought the final episode was
grand, it wasn't anything special and the wall coming down whilst visually awesome was not unexpected.

Going by this season, the walker army should arrive at Winterfel half way through the first episode of season 8 but I imagine it will probably take a bit longer than that.

I thought the whole Winterfel plot this season was poorly done and executed (excuse the pun). It was an attempt to catch littlefinger at his own game but they didn't really do that, Bran told them everything and that was that. I appreciate what they tried to do but it was contrived and completely flat in my opinion (bar the Arya v Brienne fight). I also loved Brienne talking with the hound about Arya, was a nice interaction.

I liked Cersei's ruse. It was the smart move from her perspective though long term perhaps not ideal. Her interaction with Jamie at the end was also enjoyable to watch. Jamie was incredibly focused and animated when he was coordinating the march north. First time he's seemed happy in a long time.

I'd echo what .ak said. The quality of storytelling isn't there this season. The visuals have never been better just as the writing has fallen off. Still some good interactions but lots of stuff that come across as cheap nods to the fans.

Well obviously. It's taken them 7 seasons to just get to the Wall ffs while the living can go from Dragonstone to Westeros to Dragonstone again in one episode. :D

They didn't make a big enough deal of Jon being a Targaryen. It was kind of presented like "oh, this is interesting" rather than the full blown world changing event that it really is.

I really enjoyed how they did it actually. The subtle reveal in Oldtown was a unique way of introducing it and then the official confirmation was great and disturbing. Bear in mind they already made a big deal over the previous reveal at the Tower of Joy.

I trust with all the Stasi postal censorship going on in here that Game of Thrones was on last night? Is that it for the season?

    VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION:

    When cooking sausages do you:

    a) Poke a hole in them with a fork
    b) Slice a hole in them with a knife
    c) Neither of the above

Sausages always taste better from a pan, fried slowly, about 18 mins for a good butchers sausage... don't prick the skin...and turn them regularly
