Couldn't agree more. The KN guy that was out to me today was here nearly 2 hours and did a fantastic job.

Ordered last Friday evening and installation date is this Friday, cant wait.
This is some info from the confirmation email

    What happens next?

We will send you a text message the day before to remind you about .your appointment.

Your eir technician will give you a call on the day to let you know when .to expect him. We do some external work before arriving at your home .so if you already have broadband it may be disabled for a short period.

The technician will then arrive at your home with your new eir Fibre .modem and set it up.

The technician will upgrade your phone connection for Fibre Broadband .and will recommend the best place for your modem. If you decide to .move it, new wiring is required and this will be run along the top of .your skirting board.

The visit in your home might take a few hours but we'll ensure you're fully .ready to use eir Fibre and your new modem before we leave.

Maybe they have to do something in the exchange to do with VOIP?

Does this mean their VOB service is now live, are they transitioning new FTTH /old PSTN customers from POTS to VOB? Another poster here a few days ago was offered VOB, although that particular order was fairly confusing.

@Pangea: Do you currently have an active telephone line with eir?

In my recent communications with eir, the VOB(VOIP) service is not yet available and there doesn't appear to be a set date for launching the service.
Best guess I've heard so far is September.

So I'm stuck with a POTS line as well as the fibre.

Only if you definitely want eir VOIP and no other.

If you want a different VOIP provider you can port your phone number to a different provider and use their VOIP service.

Is it not just that they haven't bothered to change the email that they would have used for a FTTC install?

A pro-forma email was my initial thinking, interesting to see what happens with Pangea's install. My link above to the previous discussion about ordering a phone service where VOB was one of the options suggested by one of the reps also asks the question is the service live/testing but not officially launched yet.

    How is everyone ordering?

I cant seem to be able to order online anyway, so i'll miss out on the online discounts i think.
I had to request a callback and place my order in that way.

This could be because I have never had an eircom landline in the past.

Some additional photos from a car camera, kinda crappy but show the spool of duct they had been laying - looks like a subduct to be filled with cable well later.

Update on the rural deployment outside Swords near Rolestown.
They have ran what looks like a tube which they will blow fiber through. Its ran to the first pole on each road that the main run passes.

Transferring your phone service from the copper connection to the fibre connection, voice over broadband/voice over internet protocol, eir's planned telephone service over fibre instead of copper. The beginning of the end for the copper network - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=101923262.

This line from the email is the reason for the question

I noticed the same the other day at the 41B terminus. The strange thing is after checking some Eircodes in the area, it still says second half of 2017 for Rolestown, but first half for Oldtown, even though the work is much further advanced in Rolestown. Hard to see the point of plans like that when they don't pay much attention to them.

Quick one... Will Eir supply a fixed IP? If so, is there an extra cost involved? If not, will any of the other suppliers?

to be honest im so fed up with eir if i never had to deal with them again it would be too soon. Im hoping digiweb has a better system in place to keep track of orders and what not. To be honest they cant be any worse than eir

You place an order with Digiweb. They send it to openeir, and its back in to all the same backend systems and its KN on behalf of OpenEir who will do you intstall.

Only difference ordering with Digiweb over Eir is the name on bill and the customer service you deal with.
At the end of the day, it will be the same person who does the install for both. & Digiweb will charge you for the install, whereas Eir will absorb the cost.

Its so frustrating watching the lads set up the road for it and I won't be getting it, been with eir 10 years with bb but at this rate will have to look into imagine or another company, as eir won't be down the rest of the road for another 2-3 years :(

From where did you get that information?

Worst case estimate for eir commercial 300k rural roll out I have seen is Dec 2018 ...

Just managed to place an order with Eir for 150Mb plus phone. I have been given an install date of this day next week but have seen in this thread where a lot of people have gotten calls to see if they can accept an earlier appointment. has this been an exception rather than the norm ??

most people here including myself had their install dates pushed forward, most by a few days, some by a few weeks.

Just on the installation, which I am hoping will happen in a few months for me - the cable is outside my door so nearly there.

I understand there are two units (sorry don't know what the name is) installed side by side and then an onward network cable to a router somewhere. I'm thinking of having these put in my attic, and having the router ceiling mounted. I have power up there for this - but I have one concern.

Heat and cold - it can get quite cold in the winter up there, but in the summer, you could loose a few lbs if you sat up there for an hour. Would this be a problem?

I am of the opinion (disagreed with by some) that there should be no permanently powered consumer devices in the attic space.
With a bit of thinking an alternate space for the devices can be found.

I probably agree with you, but I've already got a solar pump, water pump, and a powered velux window :p

I see locations like Oldtown and Rolestown being easy wins for the 300k push. Ducts connecting the rural roads already there, they are semi-densely populated etc.
I guess the OpenEir "we have done it!" date is when the plant is on the poles rather than customers signing up?

    From what KN told me.

They have rules outlined from on high..

    1) They cannot install beyond 1 meter from the external walls of your home.

    2) They cannot enter your attic.

They will not install in an attic because (see 1 above) and in the event of a service call it will require that the attic be accessed which is a no no..

I had a location where I wanted the installation which was more than 1 meter inside the fabric of the house.

However the cable to my house ran overhead from the pole and through the gable end. I ran the cable across the attic and down to the location where I wanted the install. (coat press in corridor where I installed a high level shelf and power point just under ceiling level). BUT I trained as an electrician back in the day and I knew one of the guys that did the install.
