You'd swear they were being hassled but they're not
Complaints from the small minority who end up engaging with the FUP that's there in the small print is no hassle at all
Btw if you've a ftth connection, there's no need to be speedtesting several times a day after the first few weeks
    I'd only bother if there's a problem
    Otherwise it's just an OCD

A terabyte and a half FUP would probably quieten most of the minority of heavy user complainers but isp's experience probably says different, the more heavy users get,the more they probably want and that's going to cost us all from what I read here just to humour the few?
    No thanks

    Wow.

    Anyways, fibre install in progress!

Had met the guys before as they did an install up the road- looks like the attic install is back on the table.

So I'm buying a house and will be moving in soon. Just checked the map to see if there are plans to bring FTTH to my house. I knew the blue line stopped beside my neighbors house, but wasn't sure if it would cover mine.

    28t8g8y.jpg

No prizes for guessing which house is mine :(. I just double checked on the Eir eircode checker. No luck.

It's still too early to order in my area, but I wonder when the time comes, if I just ordered with my neighbors Eircode, what would happen? Could I actually get the engineer out to do the installation and then explain the situation when they arrive. I'm sure they wouldn't be happy, but I'm confident he could do the install as I can't see any good reason why my house has been left out of the scheme. Reading through this thread, I know a lot of others have had similar issues.

I'm determined and I will find a way! :) This is not the first time I've had problems with the NBS! http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=79680554

KN guy arrived this morning, surveyed the lines, and says trees will have to be cleared, or install switched and line run from another splice box. He's right, and says the team doing the fibre lines had hoist equipment, whereas he just has a ladder, so can't get the line through the trees. The team running the lines initially should have reported the trees problem. Also the contracting tree surgeons should have cleared it when they were here months ago. Another week wait probably. If you are expecting an installation, check the clearance for the lines...

They would just go to your neighbor house since the Eir code leave you to the exacted address. The best thing is to ring them and see if they will add you but you probably have to pay for the install.

Has anyone in the Claregalway exchange area got a FTTH install date? It's marked as going live this week, but there aren't even splitter boxes on the poles by me yet. There are some up the road, but not towards the end of the blue (yellow?) line where I am.

It's clear that the FTTH live dates merely represent when the first properties in an area can be connected. In a large exchange like Claregalway (1400 properties), who knows what the difference in dates might be across the whole area? It's almost equivalent to 3 or 4 typical exchanges, so maybe is being worked through in separate pieces.

KN were digging up the road yesterday around the corner from me around where the line ends on the Open Eir map. Anyone know what that might be for, as all the FTTH wiring along our road is on existing poles?

That wouldn't be a problem, as I would know what day they were coming and could just wait for the van to pop up outside. My neighbor is right beside me. It would be different if he was down the road somewhere!

I didn't know that there was a way to have your address added. Honestly I wouldn't even mind paying for the install! :p Has anyone else successfully had their house added?

They might not add you because of NBP being about 1 year of from starting. There no harm in trying doh good luck.

The FUP isnt my main issue. It is that you have no way to view your usage, they dont warn you that you are close, or have gone over the limit and then hit you with a huge charge that tripples your bill.

If they sent a text at 950gb you could reduce usage until the next month.

Is there any feature on the eir Modem admin section that you can use to monitor your usage? I know for my Vodafone package the Statistics section it is fairly accurate when I compare it to the actual My Vodafone usage site.

e.g. the statistics say 99.6 GB and the My Vodafone usage is 98.1 GB

Is there any way of scraping the myeir statistics into a local monitoring script which could in turn keep a running total based on account date rather than calendar month?

Nothing like that. When you look at your usage it actually says allowance remaining unlimited. And to make it worse it resets at the 1st of the month but they charge from the bill date.

So even though mine says 16gb used, ive actually downloaded about 150+gb.

Not only do i have no way to see it, their system leads me to believe ive only 16gb downloaded.

    Install complete - 2.5 hours.

Got 200/95 via 5GHz wifi on an S7

This result is a wired connection - straight Cat6 cable to the modem, I know the NIC is Gb

Am I missing something ? Download seems stuck on 100Mb ?

definitely looks limited by the hardware in computer. your upload and download are almost exactly the same, limited to 100megs. Are there different ethernet ports on the computer? try a different one.

Different PC - through a hub and around the house.
Better. Will wait for it to settle in - it's only been installed half an hour :)

Have you tried restarting ONT and Router? Try a different cable also and the Ookla app instead of the browser

Do Magnet have a FUP ?

it says they don't. It says unlimited downloads which could mean anything, probably best to contact them directly.

They don't resell Eir's FTTH either.

Magnet are down as being a re-seller on here:

I just remembered I had to do that. My first 10 minutes with FTTH the speeds were less than impressive until I restarted everything and went wired.

they resell Eir's eFibre service but not the FTTH.

Perhaps they will later on. When I check what's available with Magnet I only get offered ADSL.

yeah I wasn't too happy, although i did read here before that the connection needs between a few minutes to an hour or 2 to settle in and within 30 minutes I was seeing my full speeds.

Eir have spent the past 6 years building a network and a very good one at that. They relaunched with a new identity hoping to erase the past. Their actions recently lying about unlimited, hiding it and making it impossible for a customer to track their usage using a data calculation which does not relate to a customers monthly usage within billing cycle.

This is starting to sound like the old eircom.

Eir by name, Eircom by nature.

    I'll never trust them.

well people getting FTTH of them might not think that way because the old eircom would never invest in rural Ireland.

that's very true. They have done a huge turnaround in terms of investing and offering more the services but there is no excuse for what they are doing right now with the FUP, hiding it and lying about it. If the FUP was in plain english everywhere and easy to check your exact usage, then there probably wouldn't be an issue.

Guy arrived this morning around 10am. Looked at the existing ducting (that comes in the wrong side of the house), I explained I wanted it over in the office at the opposite end. He popped out and looked at it and said if I didn't mind an overhead cable he would run it from the box to the gable, down behind the gutter and drill a hole into the office. Perfect :D

All set up by half 11.

Speed test on the phone's wifi maxed out at 200mbps.
Wired in the PC and was only getting 60mpbs, noticed I used my old cable. Swapped it for the one that comes with the router and bang

    6270256649.png

Something I never thought of but older cables can't handle the speed apparently.

Updating all those nasty "update needed" games in steam now. Arma 3 4gb update 1 32 seconds rather than the 6 hours it use to take :D

Congrats to all new 3 May connections

Eir cannot proceed with my FTTH order as my eir code is showing as in use with another eir customer account.

Took me 3 days to get that info from them.

Said they will come back to me .... :(

    We will see.....

My current connection is only 3mb at the moment and my monthly usage is 130gb ish a month. Does Netflix and the like automatically up the quality if on a higher speed? Just trying to understand how it might jump so much.

yeah Netflix should jump up to whatever your line or plan supports. You will get full 1080p all the time, most of the time there isn't even the % loading when you access a tv show, no pixilisation at the start, no buffering.

Youtube will have to be manually changed to whatever quality you want, mine was still 480p because that's what I had set it to for ADSL.

When you say "hub", do you mean an Ethernet switch - and if so, is it a gigabit switch?
