Just got through now - switched over to the rolling 30 day contract, unlimited data, calls etc. Said I was one of the easier customers! No problem for the unlocking code for the phone either! Happy out!

I have 11 months to go at €40.66 per month so thats a saving of €447.26! :D

    Thanks OP!

No it's not unless you plan on not having any phone from now on as you will still have to pay charges of some sort.

I've 9 months left on my contract. I pay €40 (being increased to €45) a month (flexi max 350) so if I cancel my contract and go to the €30 sim only plan then I save €15 x 9. = € 135

Anyone who has successfully got through, are you being patched through to Ireland or India?

Ireland, or an Irish person in India.

Their main call centre is in India. I am wondering if the dedicated line is to an Irish centre.

Thanks for that, I have been avoiding calling them for some time now.

I wouldn't be too worried about being pursued but I would be concerned that Three have control over your phone number so there might be issues getting the number ported to your new network.

Three do not own your phone number, you can port it anytime you feel like it.

Just cancelled now and changed to prepay. I was on hold for about 30 mins. Very straightforward staff very nice. I'm lucky I'm only a few weeks into a €55 p/m contract with a new iphone7 I only paid €99 for

Yes the do and all other networks are the same. That was always the case, but the networks are now not as sticky about it nowadays.

    I don't know about this.

I ported to 3 from O2, and it's not like i asked for O2's permission, so I'm assuming (and maybe wrongly) that as it was "my" number to begin with, that i brought with me from one network to the other, then i should be able to take it with me again, should i choose to port it to someone else.

Three have always been very quick to jump on customers who pay their bill late so really can't believe a word you are saying.

I recently realised, that through my own error (deleting the wrong DD from my online banking) my 3 phone direct debits hadn't come out for 4 months... I just paid online and continued on. No "jumping on me"!

In saying that, I'm now looking round for a better deal than what I'm paying for at the moment and will almost certainly be switching in the next week or so.

Ireland - they're very nice and helpful I have to say. To be honest I feel sorry for them - I'd say they're getting it in the neck from some people. They didn't try to sell any packages to me - I told them what I wanted and that was it.

My point was about them being difficult about porting if they view your account as being in arrears.

I got the impression from the guy I spoke to that he didn't work for Three, that they have outsourced this to an Irish call centre. He said he was drafted in for 10 days and then was back to his normal job.

Can someone please clarify this - if I cancel the rest of my bill pay contract and opt to go for Three prepay do I get to keep my phone?

On hold 60+ minutes after being deliberately hung up on twice. Can hear the person pick up the call then hang up.

They changed the terms and conditions of the contract, Mid-term essentially making the contract null and void. (Hence why i could leave penalty free)

They were required to allow people walk away without penalty because of an EU law.
Im just guessing that people who walk away now without going through the formal channels or notifying three that they don't accept the new changes will hardly be pursued to the ends or the earth, because in a legal scenario it would possibly be deemed that the contract was null and void anyway.

You don't have the benefit of a law to walk away like that. So people walking away are no different than those who simply refuse to pay.

The law is clear, if you offer a choice to say you can walk away then you're deemed to accept the modified terms. It's in the original contract you sign to agree that terms can be modified without having to sign a new contract.

Only the stoopid would walk away without notifying they want to refuse the changes.

    Or the impatient.

    Or the impatient.

I wasn't impatient I sat another hour on hold and talked nicely to a friendly rep and got what I wanted. Would you be happy being disconnected on purpose.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,762 ✭✭✭my3cents

    Or the impatient.

Lets face it for a lot of three customers there's a good chance of a disconnect during a long call.

I'm sure some people have never had that happen to them but for others its been part and parcel of three's service for years.

If someone leaves their contract and the phone is still locked to the three network how can they get it unlocked?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,616 ✭✭✭masculinist

Right - I Finally got a letter from Three . Somewhere in the letter it says I can cancel my contract.

The question is where to go afterwards. I'm thinking Virgin Media. They are offering a good deal piggybacking on my broadband account.
